Should I worry about bed bugs, I will stay at CR. Is CR bed bug free?

How do I check for bed bug signs? Blood on mattress, white powder in nightstand. Where should I leave my luggage?

After I come home, do I need to wash everything? will Bed bugs die in luggage case if they don't have human nearby?

Thanks!

I think Disney is being very proactive in fighting them.
We are here now and Saturday there were a few tall carts full of bedspreads being brought up the elevator. Today a man was bringing 2 more carts full. I asked how often they changed the bedspreads and he told me each time someone checks out they are sent to the laundry.
I do try to keep my suitcase off the floor and when I get home I stand it up by a window so the sun can kill bugs. I read that somewhere--sounds weird, huh. I don't put it away for a few days.
I worry more about it picking something up flying when they are all thrown together than in a hotel.

There are many good threads on this board about that subject, and everything that you need to look for. I'm sure if you do a search, you can find them.

I was also very concerned about the bed bugs when I read some of the other bed bug posts...but I have since let it go...All we can do is check. The other thread had some good info about what to look for..

For me, I figure it can happen at any hotel ...anywhere..They are gross and a pain..but there isn't too much you can do but check when you get there and then enjoy your vacation...If I let myself worry too much...I would never go anywhere again:laughing:

I'm a very germ conscience person and when i'm on vacation I know I have to let it go a bit. When it comes to the hotel rooms I get a can of lysol and clorox wipes. I just do a quick wipe down for peace of mind. I can honestly say though it seems Disney does a good job of keeping the rooms clean.

yes, a man claims he got bedbugs in CR garden wing in April 09

yes, you can get them on airplanes (maybe more easily than in motels cause the luggage is all so close together)

they can live 100 days without any blood

i would/will definitely wash all my stuff wheni get home. it takes high heat to kill bedbugs so unless you wash/dry in high heat it would not neccessarily kill them. and they crawl down into things that can't be washed...like clock radios, etc.

that said, my upcoming trip i am staying in CR garden wing but just being cautious as i will be anywhere

also, glad to hear they clean the bedspreads after each guest

can you see them by eyes? How can they live so long without blood? Do you mean they won't die in dryer????? That's crazy.

Okay...take a deep breath....calm down. Better?
My dd, now almost 16, has had two experiences with the nasty bedbug at camp...the worst last July. So, we are pretty knowledgable about those nasty critters.
Here is what you need to do. When you check into any room, pull the sheets back. Check along the mattress seams..if you see any brownish markings, there have been bedbugs there at some time. Check around the baseboards, behind the headboard. If you see any signs of bedbugs, ask to be moved and tell them why.
If you don't see anything, and you most likely will not, but are still concerned about them getting into luggage, keep your luggage off the floor and the clothes in the luggage.

Are there bedbugs at the CR now?? Who knows. The problem is this....there could be none today, but a traveler could bring them in next week. And that's why they are so common now...more frequent travelers and less toxic pesticides.

when you get home.....take all the clothes and wash them in hot water as soon as you arrive. Then, into the dryer. For the luggage...I put mine in a huge plastic trash bag and leave it in the trunk of the car for a week or so. This is not something I do every time I return home though...I do it only if there has been evidence of bedbugs..such as at dd's camp.
They can live quite a long time without feeding..hence the problem. Is it something I worry about? Nope. Here's the thing. I'm going to WDW for two weeks in Dec...I'm changing resorts about 5 times (long story, and yes, I know what it will mean).....I am not going to be obsessing over bedbugs each and every time I check into a new resort. I'll check the mattress and that's it.

Is it safe to leave Strollers on the floor

Really....deep breaths here. It's not as if you're going into a bug infested jungle here. Bedbugs show up in a very small number of rooms....Disney does a terrific job of keeping up with them. Relax, you'll be fine.
By the way...where were you thinking about putting that stroller???:thumbsup2

SO well said! This should be a sticky, seriously. I too have had my share of experience with bedbugs (it is a pretty big problem in NYC), and I see so much misinformation floating around on the boards. This is a perfect summary of how to approach a hotel stay ANYWHERE: be aware, take a few precautions, but don't make yourself crazy.

One extra step I take is to try to use duffel bags and suitcases that can go in the dryer -- I use a big LeSportsac one, I imagine those Vera Bradley bags would work well too. I just throw it in the dryer on high for an hour or so -- extra peace of mind! I know this isn't so practical for long trips, but for shorter ones it works out very well.
