Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

The Abacrombie and Fitch store across from us had the male sales clerks toppless and the girls in string bikinis untill the mall management made them put clothes on.

Happy Panda:hippie:

That would probably be the ONLY way I would EVER get DH into an AF store...:sad2: :lmao:

Good morning Lean Meaners.....another Monday! :headache: The weekend always goes to fast.

I am a hurting puppy this morning. I raced hard yesterday, and feeling the effects today. EVERYTHING HURTS! My back, quads, feet......well the list is too long to go on......

I did get an evaluation of my feet at the expo.....guess what? They are VERY flat, pressure spots on both my entire feet, and they were the worst feet the guy ever saw! Surprise, surprise, surprise!!!!! :rolleyes1 Nothing new to me, but he said that he doesn't know how I run at all! My dh laughed, and the guy looked at him like he was crazy.......my dh knows all about my stupid feet, and hears the complaints all the time, so he was not stunned by the news! Just another reason why I shouldn't be able to run! (((((but I do, and will continue!)))))

The race went well. I can honestly say that it was by far the "smartest" race I have ever done. I kept my head, stayed on pace (thanks to my Garmen), and didn't get carried away in the beginning to go full out like last year! I finished strong, and burned the lady I had been passing back and forth the entire race......and she was MAD! ((((I, of course, loved every minute of it!))))) I had a great kick at the end!

I am waiting for my official chip time, and there is a very small chance of a PR......but I am totally happy with the race regardless of my chip time!

Eating was a free for all.......I didn't restrain myself at all. I am back on the wagon this morning!

Beth

Beth!!! Way to go girl!!! I'm so proud of you!

I finished my 30 minute swim today, but I couldn't make it through the 75 minute run...I had to invoke the 10 minute rule because of my right foot...I'm pretty sure I could have gutted it out, but I'm hopeful that staying off it until next Wednesday (the next scheduled run workout) will help.

I'm flying in and out to a funeral tomorrow (my uncle, whom I was close to) so that is likely affecting my mental state too, so I be afk for a couple of days....

Mike

Mike...Sorry to hear about your uncle!

Lisa... WOW girl. Busy weekend! I wish I had a problem w/ my pants falling down! :lmao: That is a good problem! :thumbsup2

Dave...Hi! How is Ericka?

Vic...Did you enjoy the cars going round and round???

Deb...How's it going? Any luck on apartments???

Eveyone else...

Happy Monday Lean Meaners!
Bill...How are things going on the wagon train?
Debra...Did you find anything good in the home hunting this weekend?
Vic...Oh, Talladega. Lucky dog! We watched the end of the race, looks like you saw a good one.
Mike...Sending prayers your way. Sorry to hear about your uncle. My DH is dealing with poop at work, so we understand how hard it is on a family.
Stacie...Those shirts are AMAZING! I love the anniversary ones and the animal print Mickey heads. Cool!
Lisa...Those travel weekends are a killer. I know how hard these kidlets are on themselves. My DS tried to beat his record time for the mile this weekend and didn't quite make it.:sad2: We keep telling him that he did awesome, but he beats himself up over his time. How wonderful and what an honor that she was asked to play with the U19 team! That had to make her feel better.
Dave...I'm a discount girl and I LOVE the Dillards end of season sales. I find the best stuff, and you're right, it's cheaper than Wal-Mart.:woohoo:
Beth...Woo Hoo! You go girl! Sounds like you had a great race. We're all proud of you.:cheer2:

We had a busy weekend with a track meet all day Saturday, followed by a party, and then another party on Sunday. DS did really well with a first in the mile at 4:59 and a first in the 400 at 62 sec. Not his best times, but amazing still the same. He placed in the long and triple jumps as well. I ran without the Garmin on Saturday and when I got back realized that I ran a PR for 3.6 miles. I was on :cloud9: the rest of the day! Have a great day all!

Beth, did you remind that nave at the expo that those were the feet of a princess?

You did good pretty princess and even passed other runners at the finish. I hope you do get your PR.

Everyone packing for the Minnie, have a wonderfull, fun and save trip.

My workout today was a strong walk on the tready with most at 12 min per mile pace. Then an hour of calistetics and stretching. I felt wonderfull and could have done it all over again.

Off to the dentist and then Nashville for Erica's tootsie check.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Dave--With your new buff bod, have you thought of using this marketing idea as a way to sell more glasses glasses?

/
Hi Everyone!

Wow...last week was bizarre. DS was home for school vacation, so dh and I took turns with him. It turned out I didn't get in any workouts. Our schedule was totally thrown. It was this odd mix of vacation and work, and our routine just didn't happen. I expect today to be back on track.

Lisa -- Some modesty, please! I think Dave is more of tankini type...;) Get some rest, you had a heck of a weekend!

Dave -- It sounds like you had an awesome workout! Those are the ones we have to remember on the not so pretty days! :goodvibes

Tracey -- It sounds like both you and ds had a great weekend! Congrats on the PR!!!

Beth -- You are the little engine that COULD! You can and do run, and you do a great job -- it sounds like the race came at just the right time for you. We're so proud of you! :cheer2:

Stacie -- Hi! :yay: I love the shirts! I am so jealous, I expect you to have extra fun for me! When is your anniversary? Ours is May 8th -- 15 years of love and laughter. :lovestruc

Mike -- I'm so sorry for your loss. Hopefully the exercise will help you. :grouphug:

Vic -- Any new additions to the shrine since the tv? I think that should hold you for awhile!:thumbsup2

Bill -- How do you like the Pats picks? I'm still in the middle of Celtics fever (we're going to the game Wednesday night), but I have an eye on my guys! popcorn::

Debra -- Have you found the home of your dreams yet? Sometimes it just comes in a flash, I hope it's that way for you! :wizard:

DS had a sleepover Friday night, and most of Saturday I had six kids at my house. This is a big difference from one relatively quiet little boy. Wow...I spent yesterday reading and :laundy: , just to recover. It has got to be somebody else's parents turns to host one of these! :scared: To be fair, one of the moms is taking ds to see Nim's Island with her kids Friday afternoon.

Anyway, we have a healthy menu this week, we just have to eat it...swordfish, grilled turkey cutlets, shepherd's pie (with chicken breast) -- there's no reason for me to venture back off the to the Dark Side! :darth:

Good Luck, Lean Meaners!
Maria

We will be styling and profiling come Oct princess.

I hope Dillards has another sale soon I need black dress pants for work bad. All the others would fall right off without a belt. I guess we could add a Chippindale's show to the store, it might help business...."I'm to sexy for my glasses". The Abacrombie and Fitch store across from us had the male sales clerks toppless and the girls in string bikinis untill the mall management made them put clothes on.

Happy Panda:hippie:

OMG, I read it quickly and thought the GIRLS were topless (yeah, and the boys in string bikinis???? :rotfl2: ) Ha,ha....you never know what you'll see in Kentucky! (I just can't get my mind out of the gutter these days......:scared1: )

Mike: sorry for your loss

Maria: welcome back!

Everyone else: Hi! :thumbsup2

Hi Jeanne!

I'm going to post our mileage later this evening (I didn't totally forget, honest!), it's not much, but every little bit helps!:rolleyes1

Oh, and why are people always naked with you? Naked racing, naked clerks -- is it just you, or is it a Southern thing?! ;) :rotfl:

:grouphug: Maria

Vic: I missed saying goodbye to you, so WELCOME BACK! I'm willing to bet you had a fantastic weekend! Those cars sure don't seem to make a lot of forward progress, though, even though they're moving fast. :confused3 :rotfl2:

Mike: I'm so sorry for all that you're going through, work of course, but more importantly your loss. I'm glad you'll be with family & loved ones for your uncle's funeral, and please know that my thoughts are with you.

Dave: Thanks for being the voice of reason with the stretching--I know I'm more conscientious about doing it because I have the Panda's voice of wisdom in my head. And  for settling into your stable, final weight-loss weight; that's great news on inches, too! How did your appoinment go? Erica's? Are you both doing what the doctors say?

I can't help you with the peeling-off letters, either. I don't craft, I jerry rig!

Stacie: Those shirts are so cool--you've very talented. And with the Minnie coming up--not to mention that anniversary--yes, LIFE is good! :thumbsup2 You must be getting so excited, with the Minnie being this unbearably close!

Lisa: Bad toady, bad toady! :rotfl2: Seriously, when did you have time for a WO that would have been anything other than more stress than it was worth? That was a pretty packed schedule. I must say, I'd be pretty proud of your DD if I were you--only 13yo & doing so well in the 19-U game. I hope she's happy with her weekend, overall, and with her accomplishments; it sounds like she sets some pretty high standards for herself. (Just like someone else I know....:rolleyes1) P.S. I find it hard to do much of anything with the DM except tough it out, so I understand what you mean.

Add me to the list of people who, when I have to shop, love a good bargain. I'm lucky enough to have a Filene's Basement about 5 miles from where I live, next to a TJMaxx & a Marshalls.

Beth: I'm sorry to hear about your aches, not to mention your feet, but CONGRATS on the race!!! :cheer2 Everything about it sounds great (except the pain): not just your possible PR, but the smart strategizing, the final kick, the little victory with your leap-frog buddy (who shouldn't be mad...). All in all, it sounds like the kind of race we all want to run. :

Tracey: You're just a party, girl, you are!! I'm happy to hear DS did well, and I can't even imagine his times. (It takes me as long to tie a shoe as it does for him to do 400m.) And you and your PR...:woohoo: Apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it? :upsidedow

Maria: Too bad about the WOs, but it sounds like time spent with DS was delightful. You gotta take those moments when they happen, right? And another sleepover--wow. No wonder you needed a recovery day! I suspect you are the hang-out mom, which is a sign of how cool you are! :yay: And double :yay: for surrounding yourself with loved ones AND healthy food!

As for me: It was a too-short weekend. I completed my last LR before my 1/2--a 10 miler--on intervals, like I planned. It wasn't a stellar performance, but I "Got 'R Done" (did I get that right, Vic)?

DOOD & I then made the mistake of going to see a 3 hour performance of King Lear that night, as it was the last night of the run. Not a good idea to sit in theatre seats for that long. I spent much of the night fidgeting and thinking how how two of the actors must have really strong quads (they were squatting/creeping/kneeling through must of the production). So yesterday & today, my legs have been a little more sore than normal. I've been taking it easy, doing some icing & massage, lots of stretching, a la Dave. I managed a SR today, on intervals again, so I'm happy about where I am today, all things considered.

As for the apartment & house hunting. Meh. Bleh. Blech. And waaaa. We thought we had a place, another landlord-occupied apartment in a converted house, but he chose other applicants. He originally hadn't intended to rent the place to pet-owners, but then called us & had us fill out an application. Then he called back to say he rented it to someone else. All for the best, I guess, because we don't want to live some place where even the idea of pets is a cause for concern. But by then our second choice had been rented and we were lukewarm on everything else we'd seen. We're looking at more apartments this weekend, and hoping that more places in our location & price range will be available after the end of this month.

I'm really not choosy, you know. I just want a place where I can go naked (is that nekkid) every once in a while. In Jeanne's honor! ;) :rotfl:

Oh my!

Bill, Lisa, Jeanne, and I thought my mind was in the gutter.

Debra, thank you dear for not going there.

Erica is healing nicely. They took her stitches out and she can get her feet wet now so she can shower without me wrapping her tootsies in plastic bags.
She should be able to go back to work in about 2 and a half weeks.

Innocent Panda:rolleyes1

Good morning Lean Meaners. It is so nice to have a refuge to go to when my work computer is driving me nuts this morning. Connected, no connection, connected, no connection. Now, I have to sit here while IT goes through 3 phone companies to find out where the problem is AND I have to make up my time too. One of the down sides of working at home. Anywho...

Dave: Me, mind in the gutter, whatever do you mean? We up here in the woods don't have much else to think about ya know. :sad2: I am glad to hear that Erica is on the mend and nearly back to normal. How did you make out??

Debra: Sorry about the apartment and the second apartment. That really has to be a bummer situation looking for housing. My DH and I have decided that we both really love our 120 acres and neither of us is moving. We have, however, discussed splitting the house in half in the event of a divorce. :lmao:

On the speed increase note, I am back to normal finally. I ran my 3 miles at an average of 10:17 mpm so now I can work on getting faster. I felt good for the whole run yesterday and I probably would have been a little faster if I had mapped out a different route and not saved the big hill for last. :headache: My goal is to run the 5K I signed up for 6/22 in a 9:30 to 9:45 mpm and after that I am back to half training for October, then a 5K the next week and then ToT two weeks later.

Vic: Did they keep you in Talladega?

Mike: Still more  for your loss. Know that we are thinking of you.

Stacie: How are you containing yourself? Minnie is right around the corner!! :woohoo:

Beth: I love the final kick and passing someone at the very end. My SIL did it at my first 5K (not to me) but she saw that her DD was holding the finish tape and kicked it into high gear passing 4 or 5 people and saying "sorry" on the way by. We laughed and laughed for days over her apology for kicking everyones butt. There is a certain lift that comes with passing that one person in front of you, isn't there...:rolleyes1

Maria: Six boys in one house? One is all I can handle, okay 2 tops. Boy sleepover, I would be committed. You are a super mom.

Jeanne: Well, what can I say, great minds and all.

Connie: How was OKC? Susie (Escape) said that she loved it.

Everyone else: I hope you are all well and that you are working on your Lean Meanness!!

HAVE A GREAT DAY ALL. I will be working on building my arc during out 2-4" rain deluge today. No baseball and no softball for my kiddos today so, I guess it is a rest day. I am headed to the gym for my workout but I am going to opt for the elliptical today as our dear Cecilia is on a hiatus from the team due to her dad taking a downward turn with his cancer. Anyone who would like to pop into the Super Goof thread and send her some love is more than welcome!! :flower3:

Good Morning, Peeps! (I am probably the only one in the world who pictures marshmallow chickies when I type that)

Ok, so I got back on the TM, but it wasn't pretty. I just couldn't get up any speed. I had these shooting pains in my calves, which were new to me. I did try to get up my speed pretty quickly, so I think I strained something. My calves still feel heavy today. Guess I'll be trying a nice, slow warm up next time.

Lisa -- Sorry for the computer glitches. There is nothing more frustrating. It's hard to function without it! I actually had 3 boys sleepover, and then six kids (3 boys, 3 girls -- 2 sets of same-sex twins) the next day in and out and all over. I was definitely a mom who needed peace and quiet the next day!

Dave -- I'm so glad to hear Erica is healing well. Feel free to continue the pampering, I'm sure she appreciates every minute! :flower3:

Jeanne -- I guess it's a good thing ya'll don't live in Barbados. You'd be runnin' around nekkid all the time!:rotfl:

Debra -- I like that phrase, "the hangout mom". I think it has more to do with our yard, generous delivery of popsicles and the pool in the summer, but thanks! So sorry to hear the home hunting is not working out as you would wish. We lost a house I really thought I wanted, and then a few weeks later we found the one I couldn't live without. It all happens for a reason -- I know that's cold comfort when you are scouring the want-ads, but I have to believe you will come upon something that is just right for you! :yay:

Ok, so today's workout is up in the air -- I'm either walking two miles to the subway, or getting on the bike later this evening. I don't think both will happen, but you never know! ;) To clarify -- I wouldn't have to walk 2 miles to get to a subway stop, I just walk to the furthest one from my office I can get on for the correct line home. Unless it's really nasty out, I figure that's a good way to get in some exercise. :thumbsup2

Everyone have a Lean, Mean, Clean Day!
Maria

For your kind words...it was a nice service, but it was very difficult seeing my Dad so upset, which of course affected my mom, then my brothers and then me.

anyway, I was really looking forward to a nice long bike ride this morning when I got up at 0430; and the weather was rain mixed with snow, and 37 degrees. I am nothing if not flexible (if you really knew me, you would know how funny THAT statement is) so I went to do the elliptical..and my right knee started hurting like CRAZY. So I bagged the whole thing and had chicken fried steak for breakfast at the 24 hour Greek restaurant...:rotfl:

Now that its warmed up to a balmy 41 degrees, I might try to get some saddle time in for my lunch break.

Thanks again all...

Mike

Hi guys.

I did my walk on the tready this morning with most at a 12 mpm pace. Then to shake things up a little I did some sprints in the pool. I haven't done that for a while so it was a good shock to the system. I stretched a bit in the pool but I still need to do a good stretching routine tonight.

I get the dumb bunny award. I use an iPod mini. This morning I clipped it on the back of my shorts like I always do and then plugged my head phones into the TVs instead. I would normally plug in the iPod when I'm done walking so I can listen to it while doing the cals and stretching. Well when I went to the pool I stopped at the locker and stripped of my shirt shoes and head phones. Then went to the pool. After the pool fun I was showering and when I took off my shorts guess what was still clipped on the back?

I went home ate some fish and veggies and push mowed my yard and the neighbors yard, about 1.5 acres total.

I'm tired now. But some where along the way today my hip flexor finally stopped being sore. My achillies is a bit tender though.

Tired Panda:hippie:

Dave: Oh, my mind went there. I just couldn't figure out a way to be clever about it! ;) I'm glad to hear that Erica's healing well and the return to "normalcy" is in sight--relatively speaking in your household, I'm sure! :rotfl2:

Ooooh, sorry to hear about your iPod. I guess this pool exercises did shake up your routine, huh? Take care of that tender tendon of yours.

Lisa: I hope your computer & IT issues were solved without much delay. That can be so frustrating. Re: the speed issue. I'm glad your run felt good and that you can work on your goal pace. I hope I get to hear about you kicking into high gear at ToT and passing lots of folks. (I'll be behind you, but still cheering you one!)

Maria: Sorry to hear about your calves. I had some calf issues with biking, and I've been trying to channel Dave with the warming up and stretching. I think being the hangout mom is the highest praise you can get, and I have to believe it's as much about you as the amenities--although I wouldn't discount those, either. It bodes well for the high-school years, I hope. Oh, and I love your subway-stop plans, and I'm going to hope for that AND for biking for you.

Mike: I'm glad you were able to be together with your family and support each other. I hope you manage to have some really solid WOs in and that your work life becomes more pleasant. You certainly deserve some good things happening in your life. Besides chicken-friend steak.

Shan:  on the news from the doctor.

Beth: How's your recovery going?

Connie: How was OKC?

Jeanne, Stacie, Lily: Have a great time at the Minnie!!!

Tracey, Bill: I hope to see you over on the Core Warriors thread. I actually did Pilates today! :yay:

Vic: Vrooomy, vroomy?

As for me: Today was a Pilates day. I'm not nearly as in shape as Dave or Lisa, but I am seeing improvements slowly. I really need to work more on my flexibility, too. Suggestions?

In fun news, DOOD and I indulged in the free scoop of Ben & Jerry's today. The scoops were actually serving size! :yay: And did I mention, free? Anyway, I met DOOD at the store, which meant walking the 1 1/2 miles to get there. It was a kind of chilly, misty day, but eating ice cream lets me pretend it is spring. I'll need to retroactively earn that ice cream tomorrow at the gym (assuming it rains), where I'll also log & dedicate some miles to Cecilia.

Good evening Lean Meaners!

Did you miss me? ;)

I posted a couple of pics over on the event thread. Just one of the many characters I saw at Talladega. I did discover that my "Drunk Tolerance Filter" is no longer operational. I just can't stand being around them anymore. I actually came home early Sunday morning and watched the race on HD. :)

Out for 3 this evening. First run since last Wednesday. Just too much stuff going on.

Hope everyone is doing well, and keep up the great training! :)

:)
