Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Dang, did I murder another thread? Nothing and no one since 5:45 yesterday morning... I feel so all alone...I guess I have to go back to work. :surfweb:

I truly hope everyone had a wonderful day yesterday. I am not on the 3-day rule. I have 1.5 more pounds to go to my goal weight (the right way this time). As soon as I can up my miles I am positive they will go and then I will just be hanging around for support...apparently of myself...:rolleyes1

For right now, I am keeping my miles at 3ish a night running. I feel that I need to get my 5K time to a 9:30-9:45 mpm and then move up from there. I don't have another half until October and then ToT right after that and then we go into winter again. I am going back to square one where I build my speed at 3 miles so I can increase my speed in my half and hopefully PR again in October.

Beth: Good luck this weekend. You will do great, I can feel it.
Debra: Happy home hunting. I hope things work out for you and you find the place of your dreams.
Dave: A  for you cuz you're so special and a  for Erica to heal quickly.
Bill: Where's that wagon???
Vic: Happy head hunting. That's what we in the biz called it anyway.
Mike: I hope your work eases up and your workouts do not.
Connie: Continued success with the Body Bugg. Still very interested....
Tracey: Run your kids lunch to school...my DD13 would NEVER speak to me again. I have to change clothes just to pick her up.
Stacie: Danskin Tri 2009 here we come...
Shan: Still hoping for good things with the knee.

Anyone I missed: Well I miss you. Everyone come back soon. It's pretty lonely here by myself...:sad1:

Lisa, I'm still here just busy as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I'm off to the gym but I'll be back later to bore everyone later, promise.

Happy Panda:hippie:

I'm here, I'm here (raising hand)!

Lisa--Glad you're doing well. I think you are smart to work on your 5K time. After this 15K, I may do something similar. How great you only have 1.5 more lbs! Congrats! Tri-training! :faint: If I can get the swimming worked out, it may be a possibility!

Mike...Way to go on the swim, run speed work! WOW!

Deb... Hope your house/apt viewing goes well today!

I am down a lb or 2 myself. I'm not sure where I was when I started on this thread, but it seems my weight may be moving. I do expect to gain a few lbs at WDW so I'm not counting my chicks before they hatch! :goodvibes

Next week at this very moment, we will be boarding our SW Jet to fly off to Orlando. I am so excited I can hardly contain myself!

This afternoon, I'll do my 8 miler. Cross your fingers for me. I need it to be a good run/walk!

Ok...I have to get some work done before my boss gets out of his meeting.

Sorry I couldn't get to everyone! to you all! I hope everyone as a great weekend! I'll be packing! yay!

Stacie

Hellooooooooo!!!:goodvibes
I did check in yesterday, just too hectic a day to post.
Lisa...I actually didn't get to see DS when I dropped his lunch off. I ran it into the office and then ran right out. I think boys seem to be different with the embarassment aspect, now if I wore my robe and slippers, it would be another matter.:lmao: Plus, I think he's proud that he's encouraged me to run.
Mike..I've had so many nights with my 2 year old crawling into bed. I try to remind myself that I'm blessed and that this stage won't last long, but I keep waking up with dark circles under my eyes! I hope your little one's not sick.
Debra...Norman Bates? Oh, my! Did you get a weird feeling from him? I think I truly try to believe in the goodness of everyone---that is not always a good thing. It's good to be cautious. I hope you find something that meets all of your needs.
Looks like this will be a crazy, busy weekend for us. I'm ready for summer break and no more schedules. I've got a LR scheduled for Sunday and I think I'm taking Saturday off. Have a great day all and a fab weekend! Oh, and I've lost 1 pound, but people keep saying that I'm melting away. I totally agree with Lisa's statement about rearranging! I keep telling people, "it's the running", who knows, I may find myself some new running buddies.:)

Hi Stacie...we were posting at the same time. I'm jealous of all who are going to Disney for the Minnie, but I'll be rooting for you here from the Midwest. No crossed fingers, only :goodvibes , I know you can do it. Stay strong!:cheer2:

Tracy: Thanks for the reminder...these days go by fast...but the boy's not sick, his mother coddles him...

Lisa: WTG on the training and getting this () close to your goal weight!

Everyone else: Stay focused, safe and :cool2: !!!!

Mike's Place:

Work is still crazy stupid busy...I'd love to go in and adjust attitudes around there with a cudgel...that might get some people's attention. Also, I'm glad to reprogram the servers with an axe and a few buckets of water.

oh, well, on to the good stuff.

45 minute swim at 0500, 300 yards warm up, then 50, 100 and 200 yard "sprints" (I have sprints in quotations since I am so SLOW :lmao: ) with a 20, 30 and 60 second rest period between each "sprint". Then a 200 yard cool down swim, and then flip turn practice...actually not as hard as I thought.

Followed that up with a 45 minute (scheduled) run...finished the 4.6 miles in 42 minutes, which if my tired brain is doing the math right, that translates to a 9:06 pace :woohoo:

Have a great day folks!!!!

Bill: Where's that wagon???

The wagon train has not departed yet. Given the length of the journey and the diverse unknows as we depart to explore this new and unchartered territory (as well as the diverse histories of those previous explorers who, being unprepared for the hardships ahead, were unsuccessful), the head of this trip (I guess that would be me) decided to stop first at the livery to make sure all wagons are tuned, the horses are fresh and the wagons are properly stocked with the appropriate supplies. Without proper preparation and a plan, such a trip is doomed for failure. Plus, after the previous trips that had to be abandoned due to, among other things, over planning, physical break downs, efforts to cover too much territory too quickly and other set backs, this wagon master plans on getting the wagon train through to its destination this time in one piece. The preliminary plans are coming together and we are almost set to depart.

Bill, it is certainly nice to have you on the journey with us. I think this time will work for you. You seem to have a reasonable plan in place. A lot of people fail due to setting the bar too high. I am sure most of us has had that experience so do not feel alone. Much like the early settlers of this great nation, we too are on a difficult journey and the enemies are abundant and everywhere we turn. Heck, there is a MickeyD's on every corner, right...:lmao: Take heart and know that we are all here together as a group for a reason, the greater good. I know you can do it this time and I think the others have faith in you too.

Besides, I only need the wagon for the beer laps around EPCOT in October....:drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :faint: ::yes::

Fear not pretty princesses, the abundant enemies are no match for the warriors that watch over you.

Beer laps:cloud9:

Mike: Love Mike's place; I'd like to hand out there and check out the Hopper gallery. But 50 minutes of speed work and then swimming speed work, too? Whew! You're going to kick butt at that tri! Oh, and I'm glad I'm not a server because I think you wanna kick its (?) motherboard.

Lisa: First, congrats on the housekeeper! That ought to free you up for some wall building. It actually sounds like your eating habits being so tied into your activity probably means you're really attuned to your hunger and your body's needs. I mean, there are probably days when you could pay attention to fueling, as when you're in heavy training, but it sounds like you're doing pretty well?? Very cool.

And your plan for building speed & then distance seems solid, at least in terms of what DOOD does. I think I might try that strategy post my 1/2 (May 17), albeit at a different pace. Keep posting on this, please!

Rearranging!
:rotfl: :thumbsup2

Dave:
I'm still here just busy as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
:rotfl2: I need more of these phrases to adopt!

Stacie: My fingers are crossed! Just remember that you've put in many more training RW than this one. I find myself obsessing about each upcoming distance as they get longer and longer, and it takes me out of enjoying what I can do. Don't let that happen to you (says the hypocrite who's working on an attitude adjustment).

Tracey: It sounds like a Saturday off, just to get a breather in the busy schedule, is in order. That way, you can enjoy your Sunday run even more! I'm willing to bet that people might be attracted to being your running buddy just generally, as you always seem to be so energized having run!

Lisa & Tracey: I didn't quite get a Norman Bates feeling in the truly murderous, watch-out-for-the-shower sense. I did get the sense the guy didn't have a lot of social skills and has a real competitive edge--you know, the person who stops by your weight machines at the gym to tell you how to lift? And it's probably my imagination, but the guy seemed a little cooler once I switched from talking in the singular first-person to the plural. I'm not the kind of woman who always thinks she's being flirted with--I'm actually not the type of woman who get flirted with at all. But there was this weird vibe that I've been trying to shake. That's probably why I've been hesitant to check the place out.

Bill: Okay, this lit geek loved the extended metaphor--very well-written and clever. I also appreciate how you're taking to lay all the groundwork for success, from developing reasonable goals, looking at your expectations with a critical eye, and know the importance of developing a strategy. Like Lisa said, I think all this will benefit you. And I have faith in your success and in you.

As for me: It's been a busy last couple of days, with some pretty exhausting house (apt) searching, strange interviews with landlords, and lots of intense discussions with DOOD about the whole process. Tuckers me right out, it does, and DOOD is exhausted. There was a lot of eating on the go, too, but I managed as well as could be expected. Foods were higher in calories, but I ate fresh salads and fruits, and half-portions of sandwiches. At least it's balanced.

The good news is, that in part because of this schedule I really didn't have a difficult time sticking to a rest schedule and light workouts. I only managed an hour of XT today before we needed to leave the gym, so it was quick and easy. So I'm feeling ready to run tomorrow, physically and emotionally. Then back to the apartment-hunting grind.

A quick drive by.

Heading out to Talladega early tomorrow morning. Gotta go watch them stock cars go round and round.

See everyone on Monday. :)

Is in Chicago...went from 70 degrees the last two days to windy, rainy and 40 this morning...I'll bike in the rain, but not that cold.

Heading off to spin class then elliptical, since there was a 2.5 hour ride on the schedule today.

Dealing with some poop right now...could use some quick prayers if you're so inclined.

Thanks all.

Mike

Mike sounds like you are having all the fun at work that you can stand. Good thing you have your hobby to keep you sane. I often feel that way also. At work I often think, surely I'm not as stupid as some of the people I work with.

I rested the legs today and just did the calistetics and stretching.

Made a plate of steamed flounder and steamed veggies for lunch. Yum!

All the pretty princesses:flower3: Our princesses make this old world so much more bareable.

Have a super weekend y'all.

Walking Panda:hippie:

I finished my 30 minute swim today, but I couldn't make it through the 75 minute run...I had to invoke the 10 minute rule because of my right foot...I'm pretty sure I could have gutted it out, but I'm hopeful that staying off it until next Wednesday (the next scheduled run workout) will help.

I'm flying in and out to a funeral tomorrow (my uncle, whom I was close to) so that is likely affecting my mental state too, so I be afk for a couple of days....

Mike

Hey guys! Just a quick post to say I got my 8 miler in. It was well...SLOW! Let's just say if I was in the 1/2 marathon, I would have gotten swept. My mind just wantn in it and i just felt like I'd rather get to the starting line healthy with the hopes of the crowd, atmosphere and all getting me through it than to chance getting hurt. So, there you have it. Miles in, but time SUCKED!

Ok and really quickly, I wanted to post pics of the shirts I did for our upcoming trip. Some are for famly (SHHH. It's a suprise!!!) We'll be matching one day. Can you guess which ones? :)

We leave in 5 days!!! Time to pack!

Stacie

Morning Lean Meaners. I was a bad toady over the weekend. I ate poorly and infrequently leading to 2 pounds (I know it is mostly water) of weight gain and absolutely zero exercise. DH and I were worn out from a benefit dinner/dance for a truck driving friend who has cancer and getting in at 1 a.m. Saturday morning, up at 6, on the road by 10 and then gymnastics competition that ran late (as Bill will testify they always do) and getting a hotel room at 7:30 p.m., Subway, pool/hot tub, foreign bed near an airport, up at 7 a.m., breakfast, local college by 10 a.m. and field hockey until 5 p.m. DD did not do so well on Saturday, dissapointing herself more than us but did very well on Sunday and was asked to play the last game with the 19-U team (quite an honor for a 13 yo). She had some great diving saves and they had the best tournament yet for the team.

Now to business:
Stacie: Love, love, love the tees. I WISH I was that talented.

Vic: Round and round, that's one of my favorite running songs, 1980s big hair bands...gotta love em. So how'd the race turn out??

Mike: Sorry to you and the family. Happy thoughts coming to Mike's place. I hope you have a better week.

Debra: I will try and keep you informed on the speed increases. After this weekend, I feel the need to punish myself (lol) but, alas, we are due for 2-3" of rain starting this afternoon into tomorrow so it is the dreadmill for me. I cannot get any speed on a TM for some reason, I know it is a mental thing, it just feels like I am going so much faster when that evil belt is turning. I far prefer pavement. I will have to see how much it is raining before I commit to the TM.

Dave and Bill: You both crack me up!! Bill, you must have the jury/judge just eating out of your palm most of the time the way you can put things in print!! And Dave, well we know Panda's rule!!

Everyone else: Sorry I cannot get to everyone. I am really tired this morning. I think I need to go make more coffee.....

LISA IS BACK:yay:

We missed you princess. It's been quiet on the boards this weekend. Glad you had an exciting time with your adventure. My weekend was tame, rested and worked.

Today is busy for us, long workout this morning then come home and wake my pretty princess. Then we head off to the denist for my check up and a fish lunch at Red Lobster then off to Nashville for Erica's check on her tootsies.

My weight has stableized around 165 to 166. I'm ok with that since I lost 17 lbs of pudge and built more muscle in the process. My waist is 2 inches smaller so I have to go through the closet today. I buy clothes at Dillards when they have their season end clearance sales and have lots of stuff I've never worn. I have lots of Italian and French designer stuff that is very expensive but after the 75% off then another 30% off it's cheaper than WalMart.

The shirts are very cool. Maybe you can help me out on something. I have put iron on letters for my name on the back of my WISH shirts, parts are peeling and I can't get the rest off and it looks crappy. How can I get the rest of the letters off?

Happy Panda:hippie:

Well Dave, can't help you with the letters. I am not much of a crafty girl.

Thanks for the welcome home. I missed everyone. I would like to bring my laptop during travel but DH does not understand my Dis obsession. Maybe after October, he will be a little more understanding.

I completely understand about the clothes issue though. I packed myself for this weekend and on Saturday after hiking up my pants 100 times I told DH if I lost anymore weight I was going to need a new wardrobe. He gave me the :rolleyes2 and said we could not afford a new wardrobe for me. Little does he know that I shop Burlington, TJ Maxx and Marshalls and do a ditto of you. I have lots of designer stuff but I paid nearly nothing for it. I think it makes me feel even better wearing it. My favorite: Michael Kors by leaps and bounds. Second favorite: Max Azria. Got to love comfy designer clothes at knock off prices!! :woohoo:

Good luck today to both you and Erica!!!!!

We will be styling and profiling come Oct princess.

I hope Dillards has another sale soon I need black dress pants for work bad. All the others would fall right off without a belt. I guess we could add a Chippindale's show to the store, it might help business...."I'm to sexy for my glasses". The Abacrombie and Fitch store across from us had the male sales clerks toppless and the girls in string bikinis untill the mall management made them put clothes on.

Happy Panda:hippie:
