Tracey: Good job with the TM and strength training. I hope you, too, had a great weekend, with warm weather.
Beth: 15 pounds!! I just knew your body was paying attention to all your efforts. It sounds like just the boost you need, given everything that's going on. I do hope everything else in your life is (at least) stable. You're doing great and I love hearing your progress. And I'm so glad you were able to run outdoors--just lifts the mood!
Jeanne: Thanks for the link on the video's background; I wondered how much of it was made using miniatures. I always love to read that stuff. (Oh, and Michael Leviton reminds me of a guy I used to hear play when I was in college, Wally Pleasant. Not sure why.) I've not seen Night Tide, so that goes in the Netflix. I do appreciate the rule about not using camera techniques that weren't available in 1955; a little insider challenge. Okay, I have to ask the ubiquitous NYC question: has he worked for Law & Order??
(Apparently I have no problem hijacking the thread.
)
Dave: Flag Football Streaking??? Sounds like an easy way to score points--at least with the spectators!
Lisa: How was the tourney? (And the drive?
)
Vic: WTG on the run & the pace. I'd give you credit for the weather, too, if I could! I'll keep my fingers crossed for a blister-free race for you.
As for me: Wow, Saturday was a long day....We got up early to go to the gym--freezing rain--before the Oscar marathon. Let me just say that it was a bit of a hash, but I put in some time & miles; I also learned to stick to my rule about not running for an hour after I'd eaten.
But on for the good news. I made it through the Oscar event--all 5 movies without a break as it turns out DOOD wanted to see them all once we got to the theater (bragging rights, I guess). I did it without having ANY popcorn. I stayed within my SparkPeople calorie range, ate the right number of servings of fruit & veggies, dairy & protein, and only ate a LEETLE junk food with the last movie (so no feelings of deprivation). During the breaks, I walked up and down the steps, which caused other movie-goers to stare at me. But I didn't care, I was working my calves and I only had 20 minutes to go to the restroom & stretch.
And most importantly, we enjoyed ourselves. Sure, we were sore the next day, and my knee is stiff. (I also didn't go to yoga today, because we had a substitute, the woman from the other class whom I didn't like/respect as an instructor.) But it was fun being surrounded by other film geeks, all passionately opinionated about the films we say. So we'll be doing it again next year.
But because it's not just about me, here's some thoughts about why the marathon day of watching movies went so well. I believe these strategies will work in various situations where someone is stuck in one place & has to be sedentary:

But because it's not just about me, here's some thoughts about why the marathon day of watching movies went so well. I believe these strategies will work in various situations where someone is stuck in one place & has to be sedentary:
- I made sure I worked out before the event, squeezing in as much activity as possible before settling in for the day.
- I planned my entire eating day, right down to the need for snacks. Because I was in a theater, I had no chance to wing it or change my mind; that meant I really needed to be conscious of what I ate--not just look through my cupboards.
- Everything, including DOOD's food, was portioned out. I knew exactly how much I was eating & I couldn't eat more unless I bought it. (And I'm cheap.)
- I ate mini-meals, which resulted in me not getting hungry and/or longing for the concessions stand.
- I brushed my teeth between movies, which mean I really had to ask myself if I was hungry before I dove into my stash.
- I tried to remain active whenever possible. I treated the breaks as opportunities to stretch, walk, and climb stairs, not as opportunities to check my cell phone or even talk about the movies with DOOD. Although I was still sore, I can't imagine what I would have been like if I'd just slumped in the seats or headed for the concession stands.
- And this is is the big one: I got the support & advice my dearest WISHers.
Your ideas helped make the day a Lean Meaner success! The food options, the portion sizes, the floss...all these ideas helped me maintain my commitment to a fun day and one which was as healthy as possible.
