Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Role call for the Lean Meaners!!!!:yay: :yay: Stand up and be counted today!

I did my strength training yesterday, and my whole body hurts like a toothache. :confused3 :confused3 What's the deal???

Beth

Hi Everyone!

Please bear with me...I am so far behind, I never even wished Beth a
:bday: Its belated, but heartfelt!

Yesterday I did 4.5 miles on the TM, today I plan a stationary bike ride. DH totally stocked the house with fruit. His theory is that since we got the flu even with flu shots, we must need more vitamins. I have absolutely no excuse to eat chips or cookies :sad2:

Beth and Debra -- I will watch anything from Evil Dead 2 to Shaun of the Dead. I read good books, I don't necessarily see "good" movies. One of my all-time favorites is "Earth Girls Are Easy", surely a sign of the decline in Western Civilization...:lmao: I would say, 'Cause I'm a blond', but I couldn't be more of a brunette. For all of those I just left scratching your heads, 'Cause I'm a blond' is a cute little musical number from the movie. :dance3:

Texa -- I know what you mean, it is hard not to finish ds's food (or it was, now he's 10 he pretty much demolishes everything put in front of him). Think of this -- how many times did you watch your mom eat your leftovers? I can't even count them. We've got to be strong to try to break the cycle for our kids. I definitely don't want my son making my many, many nutritional mistakes:scared1: At least I don't think one lettuce leaf, half a canned pear, and a small scoop of cottage cheese with a sprinkle of paprika is a good diet dinner...I'm doing slightly better than my mother.

Tracey -- Wow, I think one boy is a lot of work! I'm so glad you are enjoying them so much. My sil wanted boys only, and has 3 girls, not a boy in sight. Like you, she wouldn't change a thing. I think, with luck, we all get what works best for us child-wise. My other SIL doesn't have children, and that is just the way she wants it. :)

Cindy:hug: I know you are so frustrated right now, but please be gentle with yourself. You are a true WISH warrior, and I know you will best all the ills that befall you!

Stacie -- We have the same problem. I have not been counting my WW points, and it shows. My new week starts Friday -- I promise to start counting if you will! I bet we will both be pleasantly surprised when we do!:cutie:

Lisa -- I do know what you mean about movies. Unless it's a kidflick, I pretty much see them through Netflix. My dh really, really doesn't like going to the movies. It's much better if I order what I want and watch in my own time. popcorn::

Vic -- Ok, I think you get the prize for most stressful job. We all have deadlines, but most of them are not life and death! Thank you for the work you do:worship:

Bill -- Are you still hangin' in there with us, buddy? We miss you!:wizard:

Ok, everyone have a great Lean, Mean Day!
Maria

Hi Everyone,

Maria: Thanks for the praise. It's so hard to be patient when I really want to be working out, my body just isn't ready right now.

Beth: Good job on the strength training. Sorry you're so sore. Hopefully it's just a sign that you had a good workout.

Debra: Enjoy the movies. Good luck eating a healthy snack.

Texa: I can totally relate to eating your kid's food. It's there, you don't want it to go to waste, extra stress from a sick child, etc. You definitely need to remind yourself next time that it doesn't taste good. If you going to pick an unhealthy snack, at least make it something delicious.

JustSmile: Good job sticking with the WW. Sorry for the pity party, but I'm glad you enjoyed your pretzel.

I'm trying to do some not too strenuous exercises since my ear is still bothering me. Apparently this infection is resistant to Augmentin. I did Tivo a really good strength training show and did it yesterday. I can feel it today, so that's a good thing. I've had 1 1/2 days of eating really well. I like to count WW points, but can't find my little points counter so I'm winging it, but at least I'm measuring everything and writing it down. It's a start.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Beth: Thanks for the suggestion on the almonds for the movie watching. We didn't have any in the house, but I did create a little snack mix with walnuts, raisins and a couple of chocolate chips for a shot of sweet. (Yeah, I'm a baker.) Mmmm, tasty. DOOD was in a rare mood for popcorn, so he took the freebie.

I've been really sore after my strength training, too, although it fades after a day. Maybe it's because we're really challenging ourselves? I'm going to try and see soreness as a good thing.

Maria: I've just added Earth Girls are Easy to my Netflix queue! I'll watch--and read--practically anything. I was the type of kid who read the ingredients on her cereal box, who found her father's Playboys & was more interested in the interviews, and was often caught reading with a flashlight under the covers.

Cindy: It sounds like you're doing a great job balancing your health & recovery, eating, and exercise. Keep it up! Like you, I find just writing down what I eat makes me more conscientious.

As for me: Another great night of movies. I ate healthy snacks, if a bit decadent. Animation is my special interest in film (along with noir), but I really enjoyed last night's nominations for live-action shorts, too. My vote would be for The Tonto Woman, if for no other reason than it was adapted from an Elmore Leonard short story. DOOD and I think that the Oscar might go to Tanghi ARgentini, and it IS the film I would teach in a film class. (Why do you need to know, you may ask? What--you say you don't all have betting pools on the Oscar wins?? :confused3 :rotfl2:)

One last thing, as I look forward to the weekend. DOOD and I are doing the marathon movie-watching day at the A.M.C.: all the Oscar-nominated films, back-to-back, from 11 a.m. to after 11 p.m. We'll probably sneak out of at least one, as we've seen 3/5 of them anyway. Here's why I'm telling you this. The movie-snack issue. We need to make plans because free, unlimited refills on popcorn is part of the admission price, and that's just asking for trouble for me.

So I'll be bringing in my own snacks, as I'm sure most people will. I'll pick up some almonds thanks to Beth's suggestion. And since I'm on a citrus kick, I'll bring along orange slices. Oh, and water. But 11 hours is a long time, so I'm looking for other suggestions: easily consumed, not too smelly, and fairly quiet. Sorry for the long post, but TIA!! :thumbsup2

Good Morning everybody:goodvibes
An ice storm blew through here this morning, so the kids are home from school again. We need some more snow so they can play outside.

I started writing everything down in my food journal again. It truly does make such a difference when you're holding yourself completely accountable. It wasn't worth it to eat a couple m&m's when you have to count them.
Debra...for a snack, I'm hooked on the Fiber One bars. I was really reluctant to try them, but once I did I was hooked!! They are so yummy and only 150 calories and 2 WW points. Plus they have 9 grams of fiber so they fill you up for awhile.
I usually try to get outside for any mileage over 3 miles, but yesterday I did 5 1/2 on the treadmill. I walk 1/4, run 5 (I did walk 3 min of this), and then cool down for 1/4. I finished the 5 miles in 50:38. I was so excited. I've read some posts of people doing really high mileage on the treadmill. Do any of you stay on there for 1 1/2 hours or longer? Do you watch T.V., listen to music, just think? I'm just looking for suggestions.:)
Take care all and have a great day!

Hi guys!

Tracey--5 1/2 on the TM!!! You go girl! I started on the TM, but ended up outside. I just couldn't do it yesterday. FYI...Runningwarehouse.com has the Moving Comfort Brand on sale and we get and extra 15% with the code WISHD. Feel free to PM me if you want more personal info on the sizes... Or you could try on in the store and order from the site. They do have free shipping.

Vic--That's pretty cool job! :thumbsup2

Debra--So glad you are enjoying the movies!!! Grea job on the healthy snacks too! :)

Cindy--I hope your ear infection clears up soon! :flower3:

Maria--Thanks for the relatability...Is that a word??? I did go to spark people to how many calories I should be eating...

Beth--I am so proud of you from staying away from those cookies. I don't know if I could have done that.

Texa--Chicken Nuggets...Don't feel too bad. They are worse things you could have eaten. (like a snickers...:rolleyes1 )

For me. It's all ok. I am soo tired. Work! I'm just pooped by the time Friday rolls around. I've put in enough hours this week that I'll probably come in a bit late tomorrow and leave early. yay!

My boss had surgery on his foot earlier this month and he can't drive. So I've been picking him up and bringing him to work. This morning his wife gave me some fresh squeezed papaya juice. It's was yummy. Very nice of her I thought. Maybe I should get a juicer...

Ok...all from me.

Everyone have a good day!
Stacie

Stacie: I always wanted a juicer.....it was the one thing I wanted when I got married (12 years ago....sigh.....) but, of course I didn't get it! I got a waffle iron though.....never made one waffle!:confused3 Sorry for the long work week.....I don't like to have long hours at work, I have too much other things to do!:lmao:

Debra: The movie thing sounds great! I would love it, but of course my dh hates to go to the movies.....the only time he will go is if it is during the day and not many people are there.:headache: Those oppurtunites don't come around often enough for me. :headache: The almonds are a great snack, and I also recommend the South Beach oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! I love them! I would have a real hard time saying no to popcorn...popcorn:: I love movie popcorn, but it is so BAD for you. You have a good plan bringing your own snacks! Especially water.....you will need it!

As for me, I am back on track after the pretzel incident. There are even some left, but I have restrained myself. I have done well the past 3 days! :thumbsup2 I was super tired on the treadmill last night though, and only got 2 miles in. Just didn't have it in me to continue. I should have taken the day completely off, but I feel bad with the challenge going on. I have increased my overall mileage well, but I haven't run longer than 6.5 miles yet. I need to get some longer runs in, but it is so hard with the weather. Snow......again.....what a drag. I just can't make myself go longer than 5 miles on the dreadmill from the shear boredom factor. :scared1:

I have been really good about bringing my breakfast and lunch to work. I have even been bringing my salad (I usually would go to the salad bar at work). I found that one head of leafy green lettuce lasts me all week and only costs me about $1.50 for the whole thing. I didn't realize that the $2.25 for a small salad was so much compared to making my own!:thumbsup2

I hope everyone checks in today........where is Bill?

Beth

/
Just popping in for a quick hello!

Beth: hang in there.....you have amazing willpower! I have a waffle maker that I never use either....and it's shaped like Mickey Mouse! It takes like 2-3 minutes to make each waffle and I had 4 kids. By the time breakfast was ready it was time for lunch.

Stacie: WTG with the workout...you are an exercise fiend!

Debra: Do I detect a member of the FA&S Academy.....or are you merely a buff? I have a son that's a filmmaker...he's fairly close to starving right now, but that's another whole story!

Jeanne: :wave2: Nice to hear from you.....thanks for the encouragement! Nancy is off doing some teaching today and I miss her!:sad1: I don't like when she is not here!

Beth

Tracey: WTG on the 5 miler at a really good pace! I did most of my Goofy training on a TM, which had the surprise benefit of acclimating me (a bit) for the Disney heat. My longest time was over 5 hours. What did I do? Besides going a little stir crazy, I watched videos on my iPod & listened to music. But after the first few hours, I'm not really paying much attention to anything but the imperative to move. Most of my time, though, was right around 2 hours or so; just perfect for a movie. I also watched television series. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't really mind the TM if I have to choose between it and freezing off my booty. Apparently I have a high tolerance for boredom.

Stacie: Stay strong--it's almost Friday! :woohoo: for being able to leave early and for having fresh papaya juice! I'd love a juicer someday, once we have a bigger kitchen.

Beth: You're doing really well with your breakfasts & lunches! It saves $ and you get to control what you put in your body. Yeah! :cool1: It's too bad about the TM and lack of energy. I wonder if you're coming down with something? (Knock on wood.) Maybe it's combined with all the stress? Don't for a second worry about the numbers for the challenge--take care of yourself, because that's why the challenge was created.

Jeanne: I SO wish I were a member of the FA&S--I am a member of SCMS, does that count? In my former life, before we moved to Pgh, I taught film (and Am. Lit.) at a state university. So the film stuff is a professional as well as a personal interest! I'd love to hear about your son and his work sometime!

As for me: Thanks to everyone for their suggestions--keep them coming! I'm hoping that as many snacks as possible will act like mini-meals, as I'm not sure when we'll sneak out for real food. I'm going to want to be overprepared because the popcorn will win otherwise.

Today was a rest day, which I needed after yesterday C25K + training day. I did some really light floor work, mostly for flexibility and abs, and some Chi Running exercises for my core. My knee appreciates the down time, but I get a bit anxious about not working out. I hate to admit it, but like Beth I feel the pressure of the challenge. It's amazing how much being a part of a team has influenced me to try & push myself. I was the kid chosen last for dodge ball, let alone sports that required coordination, so the whole team-bonding & camraderie is new to me. I like it, but I have to remind myself that slow & steady will get me the progress I want.

And a big shout-out to Bill! We miss you, man!

Debra: Thanks for the well wishes! I was really dragging on the TM on Wednesday, so I did take a day off yesterday. I don't like it, but I figured it was better to do that, than to have another half effort again. I think all the weights and running I have been doing has brought me down, and the stress of course. So, hopefully tonights TM will be better. It snowed here again, so it will be the dreadmill for me again today.

Stacie: So Friday's here......yippee for you! I hope you have a restful weekend! :cool1: :cool1:

Bill: We miss you......please come back!

My kids are off school today, and more bad weather is expected tonight. I will get my work done quickly so I can go home! :cool1: I want to eat well this weekend, because my weight loss has stalled a little bit. I am down 13 but it is at a stand still right now. I expected it, but it still gets frustrating! Hang tough Lean Meaners and have a productive weekend!

Beth

Yay! It's Friday! :dance3:

I did come in late and I will leave early! I hope to stop by the Disney store on the way home. I hear they are having 60% off their clearance this weekend... There's probably not too much left though.

We got a phone call from the Neurologist yesterday. Matt's EEG and bloodwork came back. Looks good. So they have released him to drive short distances (in State) and hopefuly next month when we go back for the follow up all driving restrictions will be lifted! yay! I am soooooo glad he can drive again!

Debra--I always feel guilty if I take a day off too. I've to take two rest days this week. It's a bit funny because used to if I worked out 3 days a week I was feeling good. My how things change!

Jean--Feed your son! :goodvibes

Beth--I know how you feel on the TM! I can barely stand it! We need to bring our lunch more... Eating out is really making us poor!

Ok--Hope you all have a good weekend!!! Stay strong!

Stacie

Stacie: Such good news!! Yay for that.

Debra: Guilty about taking time off...hmmm....me never guilty. Grouchy, cranky, mean, rotten, nasty maybe but not guilty. That is more of what caused the issue on our team thread, my crankiness and feeling those pointy barbs with poisonous panda slug juice on them. :lmao: I think we all feel guilty when there is someone/something holding us accountable. Part of the reason that newbies quit is boredom and/or lack of challenge in their workouts. Embrace the team challenge and let it move you!!!

Beth: TM miles, ugh :crazy2: I find myself bored after about 3 miles and from there on out it just becomes x more miles or x more minutes for me. I feel like I am running faster on the TM when I am actually slower and it feels like it is forever!!! Of course being banished to an over filled basement with no entertainment besides finding another cobweb might have something to do with it. I watch movies and/or listen to my iPod. Anything to distract me. I can manage 5-6 miles without a movie but after that is my definition of the underworld!!! I had to train for the WDW half all on treadmill due to weather. Just now getting back out after I slide down my driveway (and I mean that literally). Oh, and good job with the breakfast/lunch thing. I try to tell DH how many calories and how much $$ he wastes in a year but if falls on deaf ears.

Bill: Where are you??? We miss your charming self...:sad1:

Jeanne: :flower3: Stop in again. We miss you too!!!

I have to drive 2.5 hours to a field hockey tournament all day on Sunday. Reading through Debra's movie snacks to make a list of things to pack for the cooler. Nothing to add except for unsalted pretzels and I also pop the unsalted 100 calorie packs of popcorn to munch on. Oh, and floss, nuff said....

Good morning leanies and meanies. You seem to be the only ones about this morning. How is everyone doing?

I think Bill was trying to get in touch with his redneck side and had a bad experience with cow tipping. The cow woke and sat on him so he is out in the field kicking and flapping his arms to no avail.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Good Morning, Lean Meaners!:cheer2:

Yesterday I did an hour on the TM, not my best pace, but better than the couch. I did 10 miles on the bike the day before, so I am being much more consistent with my workouts.

I've been eating more fruit and fewer junk goodies, so I know that's helping. I told myself I'll check the scale March 1st, we'll see how I'm doing.

Stacie -- So happy to hear your excellent news! We'll keep sending pixiedust: your way for next month!

Lisa -- I hope your team thread is a happy place...feel free to stop by Team Ohana, we like to socialize!:grouphug:

Beth -- The TM is my friend. I am such a wimp, I can't go outside unless it's sunny and 60ish. I pass the time with my i-pod. It's a shuffle, so I never know what song will be next. I think the variety helps me keep moving. I know the rest will help you, I predict a great workout!:woohoo:

Debra -- You are a great team member! We love your enthusiasm and erudite posts! Remember, you can't let this team down. No One Left Behind!:thumbsup2

Tracey -- When I want a really long TM workout, I put a movie in. If it's a good one, I barely notice I'm on the TM (that may not be good). My other secret is the aforementioned ipod. I have to have something to keep my interest. The TM alone is too dull. ::yes::

Cindy -- a WW leader told me once that the general rule of thumb is 60 cals = 1 pt. It's not always exact, but it's a pretty good guideline. :)

Texa -- How is dd? How are you? isn't fun for anyone.

Jeanne -- :goodvibes Anyone who has raised 4 kids deserves :worship: I hope they all appreciate how hard their mom works to keep herself fit!

Vic -- Could you send some sunshine up north? We're feelin' a wee bit chilly! :cold:

Bill -- Get your snow shovel out, it's coming!

Tonight ds is having his first sleepover, which I don't think is going to go over well with our elderly cats. I guess we'll see them Sunday. We're keeping all the boys until their whiffleball game at 2 on Saturday, so it's going to be a long event. The house is fully stocked with junk. I'm sort of hoping they all sit quietly and read, but I think that might be too creepy :lmao: Wish me luck!

Ok, everyone saddle up for a healthy weekend!
Maria

I think Bill was trying to get in touch with his redneck side and had a bad experience with cow tipping. The cow woke and sat on him so he is out in the field kicking and flapping his arms to no avail.

Embellishing Panda--Not true at all, but close. I was actually tractor tippin' with Mator and Lightning McQueen, but we've been hanging low because Doc and Sheriff are upset because some of the tractors woke up and stampeded into Radiator Springs.

Good Morning Everyone,

PatsBill: Hope all is well.

Dave: Hello. I hope your achilles is feeling well.

Maria: Thanks for the WW rule of thumb. Good news, I found my pts counter. It was in my desk at work. No excuses for me now. Good luck with a house full of 10 yo boys. Yikes!! I may hear them way out here in the 'burbs. Good job with your workout consistency.

Lisa: Hope the field hockey tourney goes well. Good luck with your snacking.

Stacie: Great news about your DH. Best wishes for the complete clearance. Have fun shopping.

Beth: Stick with it. Thirteen pounds is terrific so far. Good luck eating well this weekend. On rest days you can do some stretching which can count for team minutes, help you to be flexible and injury free and not tax your body too much.

Debra: Good job with the core work. It really is best to take it easy on your knee.

JustSmile: Good job getting in so many miles on the treadmill. I have a hard time staying on it because of boredom. I try to remind myself that I don't have to like it, I just have to do it anyway. I also find that doing intervals helps me stay on there longer. I'll run easy for 5 minutes then pick up the pace for 2 to 10 minutes then drop back down to easy running again. It breaks up the monotony a bit.

I'm still bothered by my illnesses, but trying to do weights and light aerobics. I've been eating healthy for 3 whole days now. It seems silly to be bragging about 3 days, but right now that's a major accomplishment. It's amazing how when you're in the groove it's so easy and when you're not- yikes. Not in the groove yet, but hoping to feel it soon.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Embellishing Panda--Not true at all, but close. I was actually tractor tippin' with Mator and Lightning McQueen, but we've been hanging low because Doc and Sheriff are upset because some of the tractors woke up and stampeded into Radiator Springs.

I have been very good on here lately, I've stayed out of trouble for 2 or 3 days now. But I could have really shoot things up;

I didn't mention anything about your part time job, wearing the orange robe, and beating the tamborine in the airport for spare change. I couldn't really make out what you were saying, something about "hairy christians".

Keeping hush Panda:hippie:

You should visit more often Panda!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Naw if I stay to long someone will get the tar and feathers out. It's better if I hide over on the walking thread, they know I'm senile and can't help it. Over here you are expected to be normal, and the dress code is pretty strict.
