Becky & Jason's Fairy Tale wedding 9/3/11 on Long Island - *complete*

Tasting!

So I didn't even think to take pictures of the food we had at the tasting, so you'll just have to bear with me. We got to taste the food, and everyone had really good things about the caterer, so we were definitely hoping it would be good - after all, we'd already signed the contract! But we weren't disappointed.

We had three appetizers that would be during the cocktail hour. We tried quesadillas, coconut shrimp, and herbal and seafood stuffed mushrooms. All three of these were fantastic. The coconut shrimp was phenomenal. I love coconut shrimp, and this was some of the best I'd ever tasted. I don't even like mushrooms and I would want to have that during cocktail hour. I just ate the seafood stuffing out of it and it was sooo tasty. :rotfl: All three of these are a definite on our list of appetizers (we get 8 total).

Then it was on to the main courses. First we tried Chicken Francaise, and this was by far my favorite entree of all the ones we tried. The chicken was tender and the sauce was so good. We then had Sausage, Potatoes, and Peppers, which was very tasty. Except too many onions, I don't like them. And DF absolutely detests them. You should see the look on his face if he accidentally ingests an onion! :scared1: Then it was some sort eggplant dish, I don't remember exactly. I wasn't a huge fan just cause I don't really like eggplant or any sort of tomato or marinara sauce, but I think others would like it. Penne Vodka was extremely tasty. And the last dish was a teriyaki steak with veggies, which was very good as well. It's goign to be such as hard choice! Definitely the chicken francaise, and probably the sausage dish. A pasta dish for sure, but I think I might go with Pasta Primavera instead of the Penne Vodka because that's one of my absolute favorites. I'm hungry now just thinking about it!

A cute side story: We ended up bringing my 5 year old twin cousins with us to the tasting due to a family emergency with my aunt and uncle, and they needed a baby sitter. The caterer was so cool about them being there. He put on nickelodeon for them and gave them sodas (one of them ordered a diet coke! :rotfl2:). We told them if they wanted to try anything they could, but they were not interested in the yucky grown up food. Well, the next thing we know, the caterer is walking back into the room with two happy meals from McDonald's! It was so sweet of them to do that.

That all sounds delicious!!! And I agree about the onions, df and I both don't like them!
And how sweet about the mcdonalds!! That was very thoughtful!!

DF's Ring

So we looked at a bunch of the rings on Overstock, and thanks to some of the recommendations here decided to go with a Tungsten ring. DF (and his whole family really) is very thrifty, so he can't stand spending a lot of money on anything really.

HAHA this is totally my DF.... he is so "thrifty" I sometimes think he is the real life George Costanza from Seinfeld! :lmao:

Let me know how Overstock goes!! I think I might order from there too!!

Also- how did you size DF's finger? Did you just gestimate? Or did you actually go to a jeweler?

Tasting!

You should see the look on his face if he accidentally ingests an onion! :scared1:

:rotfl::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::lmao::rotfl2: OMG THAT IS SO ME!!! Hahaha... anything with onions... I literally feel like I could gag... I hate the texture, the smell, the taste.. EVERYTHING!

SIDENOTE: I think your post literally made me drool...... everything sound so delicious!! :)

Are there any side dishes? Or salads? I would say the good thing about pasta is that it is a dish within it self, so don't really need anything else with it! :)

And I agree about the onions, df and I both don't like them!

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Did I mention this was me again? LOL.... I can honestly say I DESPISE them.. and I am teaching the DF to be onion-free... although when he does eat them.. he gets zero kisses from me.......:rolleyes1

Hehe I think it's so funny that you both feel the same way about onions! I really don't like them, but DF absolutely freaks out when he sees them. I think this is absolutely perfect to represent what happens when he accidentally eats one: :scared1:

And the overstock website had a page about how to measure your ring size with a conversion chart to what size you would be. When we get the ring and DF tries it one I will let you know if the chart was accurate!

My Rant

Okay, so I hate to be negative, but I really need to rant to someone and I know you guys will understand. Everything about getting married is great, with one exception - the constant remarks from people (both ones that we know and ones that we don't) that we're "too young" to be getting married. To me, 18 is too young to be married. I will be 23 next month and I don't think that's too young. I know that some 23 year olds may not be mature or ready to get married, but we definitely are. And I know some of it has to do with the fact that we both look really young - when some people find out we're getting married, I sometimes get comments like, "How old are you, 16?"

I completely respect that lots of people are waiting until they are older and accomplished before getting married, and that's totally cool if it works for you. But I want to go through the rest of grad school, and finding a job, and establishing myself with Jason by my side, rather than waiting just for the sake of waiting to be older, when we're both 100% sure this what we want. It just astounds me that people are rude enough to make comments like that. I mean, even if I was thinking something like that about someone, I would never in a million years think of saying it!

Yesterday we went out to lunch with Jason's mom and his brothers, and the waitress asked if all of us were her kids, and she explained that I'm the future daughter in law, and we got comments from the waitress about how old we were and we were too young to be getting married. And it just really annoys me. It's also difficult when family or friends say it too. My younger brother thinks we're too young (he's 21), but he's super immature and I know it's because he could never picture being married within a year or two at the place that he is in his life. Blah, I just wish people could keep their opinions to themselves instead of thinking they know everything about our situation. :headache:

But anyway, on to better things! :cool1:

The DJ

We got the chance to meet with our DJ while I was home. He was really nice and seemed to completely understand what we were going for. He was also really flexible - said that I could make a list of songs I want played, I could tell him some genres, and I could choose whether or not I'd let him take requests.

Now, I mostly listen to country music, and I realize that not all of my guests will be digging that! ;) So I was wondering if any of you could provide song suggestions I could add to my list. I'm looking for some really good dance songs that will get everyone up and moving. But I definitely don't want any rap and nothing with anything inappropriate in the lyrics (after all, Grandma will be there!) So something along the lines of Lady Gaga and other good dance tunes. Let me know if you have any ideas and what you are playing at your wedding!

Sounds like you both had a really fun time:). How nice of the caterer to do that for you! DF and I don't mind onions, but I can imagine that my DF has the same reaction as yours when he accidently gets a piece of egg shell in his mouth. His mom made him a cake when he was a kid and she accidentally dropped a piece of egg shell in it. Long story short he bit down on it and freaked out ever since then when he sees me baking a cake he gets all crazy he always says "make sure you get all those egg shells out sweety" :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Oh I didn't see your second post :). I totally know where your coming from. DF is 22 and I turn 24 next month. We get that crap all the time especially since we moved in together. It's like ppl just mind your own business. I graduated college DF is about to graduate and by society standards were good to go not mention we have been together 5 1/2 years. I am an intern fir the state and the other intern and were talking about me getting married and he was like "why rush it?" I was like what are you talking about I have been with DF since high school. Yet when ppl are 40 years old or older it's ok for them to get married to someone they met after 6 months just bc their older???? I don't get it. Doesn't matter how long you have been together or the age (as long as its legal lol) anywho I see where your coming from. Congratz on meeting the DJ it's great that you had a connection that way you can trust him to run your party! Might I suggest anything top 40, just give him a list of the popular artists on the billboard.com charts and he can take it from there and have him play what he usually plays for the older crowd as well so theres a balance.

Well.. you girls can send your onions over here! I lOVES them.. haha. :lmao:

The food all sounds delicious.. as if I wasn't hungry enough.

And as far as people with their comments.. ignore them. They're stupid. =] All that matters is how the TWO of you feel and that's it. Nobody can understand a connection that 2 people have.. and they need to realize that age is just a number.
Dave and I get comments all of the time, but about how long we've been together.. especially when people find out that we were only together 4 1/2 months when we had gotten engaged.
I just ignore them or tell them to shut up. =] Do you. Don't worry about everyone else, they're all just jealous that you found true love at such a young age.:hug:

 I couldn't agree more about the whole age thing! Why does it matter how old you are if you love someone and the time is right, why wait?? I can't imagine saying that to someone!!! :confused3

LOL.. of course I am the "old maid" here at the ripe ol' age of 26...:lmao: I will be getting married when I am 27!! :scared1:

I also look fairly young for my age- but for the most part people might comment and I smile and laugh and move on- they don't know me, and those that do know me, all they can say is, IT IS ABOUT TIME!! :rotfl:

What an awesome DJ! He sounds kinda like mine, we are going to give him a list of songs, and probably just maybe suggest some top 40 stuff around November?

A lot of our music isn't preferred by our parents, and our friend's musical tastes are all over the board! :rolleyes1 I think I will probably pick a few choice songs that are my favorite, and then kinda spread it out? I love a few country songs as well and that will be a winner with my TX relatives!

I say Lady Gaga is good- and maybe like Katy Perry? Michael Buble? Or you could go with the classics, like the Macerena? Shout? Electric Slide? lol... although those are so cliche, but they do get people up and moving and having a good time!

Ha, I'm not far behind you! I'll be 25 a month from tomorrow! 26 when I get married! ha.

:rotfl2: I'm the "old maid"!! I'm 28 and will be 29 when I get married. Do you realize that's almost thirty?? :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

As far as songs go, I would just let the dj know what you are looking for, and I'm sure he knows what's hip with the kiddos (since I'm old :lmao:)

And don't worry about what people say! I love when people like to pass on their judgment on to others. I always embarass df, because I'm not one to keep quiet when something like that happens. He knows I'm going to say something. He just puts his head down and gets prepared...haha!!

Hey now, I am 30 (Yikes!!!). I got a lot of "advice" before I got married too. **Since we are older, we should have known that we wanted to get married before the 4 year mark** Ummm, just because we were older doesn't mean that we were ready to get married to each other yet! And now I get the whole "you're engagement will be less than 6 months???" Umm...yes! I know that I want to marry my DF and love the idea of getting married on our dating anniversary, so I didn't want to wait a year and a half!

 to all of those people who need to mind their own businesses!!!

Thank you all for your kind words. I knew I could count on you!

Yeah, I feel like you are saying exactly some of the things that I'm thinking. Love is love, right? Anyhow I think that the people that comment are often those that are a little bitter. Either because they're divorced or single or whatever, and they don't want other marriages to work out because it hasn't for them in the past or the present.

Well.. you girls can send your onions over here! I lOVES them.. haha. :lmao:

Yes, you said it perfectly! No one else will really know what goes on between two people, and they are probably jealous!

See, I feel like your age is the age that society is saying people should get married now - late 20's. But of course there are always people that will say that you should be older, or younger, or whatever - they'll never be happy!

Aww, neither of you are old. :goodvibes And I guess your stories just go to show that there will always be people complaining about your marriage, no matter what the circumstances! I think my family was particularly taken aback because everyone always expected my sister to get married first (she's 31). But she's been more career focused, and it works for her - I guess it just surprised my family!

Did anyone else realize that we are all pretty much a year within each other in age, lol! That's insane, just another thing that connects us I guess:grouphug:

I'VE GOT YOU ALL BEAT. I'm 31 and will be 32 on our wedding day. After a certain while, "You're too young to get married, why don't you wait" turns into "what's taking you guys so long???" You can't win. :upsidedow

Lol! I totally agree with this statement!

Geez, you can't win can you? There is no in between I guess! :confused3

ADRs!

So I am at the 180 day mark! I got to make my ADRs this morning. Woke up at 6 am to do it but it was worth it because I got everything that I wanted at the times that I wanted too. :woohoo:

Here's the official list:

Sun. 9/4 Narcoossee's at 9 pm (a late dinner in order to catch Wishes from there at 10 pm!)

Mon. 9/5 Cinderella's Royal Table 6:40 pm

Tues. 9/6 Coral Reef 6:00 pm

Wed. 9/7 Kouzzina 6:30 pm

Thurs. 9/8 Sci-Fi 5:45 pm

Fri. 9/9 T-REX 6:00 pm (with plans to hopefully catch Cirque du Soleil at 9 pm)

Sat. 9/10 Les Chefs de France 12:00 pm
Akershus 7:00 pm

Sun. 9/11 Tony's Town Square 5:10 pm (an early dinner so we can hopefully get the dessert party for the evening!)

I'm excited because it all seems to work out really well. Looking at our choices I know that I'm really a big kid at heart - I really love the places with the "cool experiences" rather than the really good food (though I love that too!) Hence why we went with Sci-Fi an T-REX instead of some of the other places.

No, you can't. What's funny is, my one grandma has been asking me when I'm getting married since I turned 18. My OTHER grandma has always told me "you're still young, there's no rush." Haha. She still says, "take your time, enjoy your planning" while first grandma tells me I should hurry up and not wait so long (May 2012). OY!!!!!!!!! :confused3
