Becky & Jason's Fairy Tale wedding 9/3/11 on Long Island - *complete*

Not too much new on the wedding front - still waiting for our invitations to arrive, and I finally got the refund on the overstock ring so I can try ordering it again! :rotfl2: Also, I think I will make a post later about our centerpiece ideas, because I haven't really brought it up here yet.

This past weekend was awesome because 1., I am now officially on spring break from classes for a week and I have absolutely NO homework to do!, and 2., yesterday was the three year anniversary for Jason and me. I went up to see him for the weekend and we had a nice evening. He gave me a beautiful necklace:

We spent the day walking around the mall, had dinner, and then went to see a movie. But while we were in the mall, we stopped at the Disney Store... and I bought my first Vinylmation!! Haha, I'm now addicted. I bought one from the Animation classics collections, and here's who I got:

Now I want to get more! Hehe :goodvibes

Beautiful necklace!!!!

March seems to be alot of the girls anniversaries on here, ours was March 6 :yay:

And yay for the vinylmation!!! They are so addicting. I bought two last week, and then three more. I can't stop!! I got the one from great movie ride, the buzz lightyear ride, tinkerbell, the pirate, and the abominable snowman! Almost all of the park 5 that I was going for :yay: Just wait until you get to Disney. It's so much fun to do the trading. You only think you're addicted now ;)

The necklace is GORGEOUS. And happy anniversary!! =]

And I'M SO JEALOUS. I want that Fairy Godmother soooo badly!!! I was hoping for her when I first opened my Animation boxes.. I got Alice and Hunchback. lol. Welcome to the club along with Krisit and I!! ;D

Thanks! I love the Fairy Godmother, she is so cute... but I just realized today that she didn't come with a wand! From other pictures I've been looking at online it seems like it was supposed to? So I'm a little bummed about that. I checked the box and the foil and everything but didn't see it. I don't want to throw anything out now!

And I've been looking at all of the collections, and I like the animation, toy story, and parks collections. And the muppets! I seriously have no money right now... but hopefully a birthday present from someone next month!

haha I know the feeling! And those things sure do add up! I've found the best thing to do is stick with one series. I stick with the parks, even though I have a few random ones here and there. We are trying to save for the honeymoon and I keep wanting to buy more and more!!

Centerpieces!

Okay, so I realized that I didn't do a post about centerpieces on here yet. I actually had a thread about it on the main boards, but never updated here. So if you saw that thread you've probably heard all this before, but if not here it is.

I really didn't want to do flower centerpieces, because I'm not a big flower person. So I wanted to make my own and do something different. I looked at ideas online and was thinking about doing something with books as a centerpiece. It made sense because I love to read, and I'm doing a fairy tale theme and fairy tales are books, after all! I found these gorgeous storage boxes that look like books at Michael's and knew I had to get them:

Here's the cover of one:

I then decided that just the books wasn't enough... and I came up with the idea to have every table themed around a different fairy tale, and to decorate each centerpiece with items from that fairy tale. I've been slowly collecting things, and here is some of what I've got:

Beauty and the Beast:

Alice in Wonderland:

The Frog Prince:

Snow White:

Rapunzel:

And then here's a lamp for Aladdin, a spinning wheel for Sleeping Beauty, and a Glass Slipper for Cinderella:

P1040115.jpg

Other fairy tales I'm going to use:
The Princess and the Pea
The Little Mermaid
Peter Pan
Little Red Riding Hood

For table signs, I wanted to make each sign look like a bookmark. Here's what I experimented with originally:

But I'm going to spruce them up and print this design onto the bookmarks:

Any other ideas or suggestions for what I could use for the centerpieces would be extremely appreciated!

So I totally love all of your ideas! They're going to look fabulous!

I like the first table sign.. I will play around with the idea in a little bit and see what I can come up with for you! =] I love playing around in Paint when I'm bored! You should see the amount of monograms I have! ha.

Haha, thanks! Hey, if you want to design a monogram for me the next time you're bored I certainly wouldn't mind ;) I was trying to experiment with it myself but my skills are not that great, so I was just going to do without. I don't really NEED it for anything, it would just be fun to have!

Everything looks great!! Very cute ideas!!!!

Your centerpieces look great! Very creative! :thumbsup2

Thanks girls! Fingers crossed that they actually turn out well...

Well send me a PM with some details, colors, etc and I'll see what I can come up with for you!!

Dave and my dad are heading out tonight to the jewelers so I'll be home a bit by myself!

OMG Becky those look amazing! The idea is so creative I have never seen it before for centerpieces I love it :) I am definitely going to keep my eyes open for ideas for you :thumbsup2

Invitations!

So guess what arrived in the mail the other day... our invitations! If you don't remember, this is what they look like:

invitations.jpg

They look great in person too! They came out wonderfully. Now we just have to focus on addressing them - Jason and I are going to do the calligraphy ourselves (both of us do it a little as a hobby), so it will take a lot of time. Better start now!

Also, does anyone have any good websites they recommend for instructions on how to address the invitations? I'm looking for something really comprehensive... I have books and stuff with the basic format, but for special cases like kids, couples living together but not married, etc., I need to know the correct way to do it.

Need Ideas for Guestbook!

Hi all! I need some ideas/input from you all. I'm working on designing a guestbook using MixBook, and I'm having a lot of fun doing it, but I need some ideas. I want to have a quote about fairy tales and love in some way on every page, but I'm running out of good quotes. I'm also putting little fairy tale related pictures, but running out of ideas for that too. Here's what I have so far:

Quotes

"If you can see the magic in a fairy tale, you can face the future."
-Danielle Steel

"Fairy tales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten."

"Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale of all." -Hans Christian Andersen

"Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale."

Only those who truly love and who are truly strong can sustain their lives as a dream. You dwell in your own enchantment. Life throws stones at you, but your love and your dream change those stones into the flowers of discovery. Even if you lose, or are defeated by things, your triumph will always be exemplary. And if no one knows it, then there are places that do. People like you enrich the dreams of the worlds, and it is dreams that create history. People like you are unknowing transformers of things, protected by your own fairy-tale, by love.
Ben Okri

Every man's life is a fairy tale written by God's fingers.
Hans Christian Andersen

"Fantasy and reality often overlap." —Walt Disney

Walt Disney quote: All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.

“Happiness is like those palaces in fairy tales whose gates are guarded by dragons: we must fight in order to conquer it.”
Alexandre Dumas

"I always felt and still feel that fairy tales have an emotional truth that is so deep that there are few things that really rival them." -Alice Hoffman

"Fairy tale does not deny the existence of sorrow and failure: the possibility of these is necessary to the joy of deliverance. It denies (in the face of much evidence, if you will) universal final defeat...giving a fleeting glimpse of Joy; Joy beyond the walls of the world, poignant as grief."
— J.R.R. Tolkien

"When I used to read fairy-tales, I fancied that kind of thing never happened, and now here I am in the middle of one!"
— Lewis Carroll

"Deeper meaning resides in the fairy tales told to me in my childhood than in the truth that is taught by life."
— Friedrich von Schiller

If you have any good quotes or ideas for pictures that I could use, please let me know!! Quotes from Disney movies are OK, as long as they are from fairy tale based movies and have to do with love somehow. But I would love to hear or consider anything really that relates!

I just read through your thread--- and I love EVERYTHING!!!! But, most of all, I love the centerpieces more than ANYTHING!!!! (I'm getting a master's in English, so I loooove books!) Gah, now you're making me want to do centerpieces, even though I decided against them!

Also, I did want to add a love quote! This one is kind of silly though--- "Love is the greatest thing in the world, besides cough drops." (It's from the book version of The Princess Bride.) :goodvibes

Thank you!! Yes, as a future librarian I couldn't resist having books! And I think they tie in well with the fairy tale theme ;)

Thanks for the quote! It is silly, but cute! Someday I will have to get around the reading The Princess Bride book. I've only seen the movie, but I've heard the book is really good. :goodvibes

I have a LOT of updates, so I won't put them all in this post, but be on the look out in the next week for more!

And I could still use suggestions for the guestbook of good quotes/pictures, so let me know!

Good news!

First I want to share my good news! Jason, my DF, was offered at job! It's at quite a good salary and right in this area. As of now he has accepted it, but he's still waiting to hear back from another company so there's a small possibility that our plans would change (and would involve moving about three hours south from here, something I don't want to do...). But as of right now things are looking really good!

Also good news... if you don't know, I'm a complete Harry Potter nerd. I've been to the fan conferences every summer for the past three years, but couldn't afford to go this year because of all the expenses related to the wedding. Well, a friend offered to let me stay in her hotel room for free AND gave me an extra con registration that she had. That means all I really have to pay for is my flight and Universal tickets! So I can afford to go now! :woohoo: The only bad thing is that it means I'm going to Orlando twice this summer and NOT going to Disney. That makes me a little sad, but I really think it would be sort of lame to go less than two months before the honeymoon, especially when I haven't been for a number of years. I want the honeymoon to be really special :goodvibes

Centerpieces

I found a few more items for the centerpieces! Michael's was selling wooden birdhouses, and they had a pirate ship (for Peter Pan), and a small Castle (I'll use it for Rapunzel!). So now I have another DIY project... painting them!

P1040141.jpg

Also, Michael's had some Toy Story and Disney Princess crayon boxes for $1. I got some for any of the kids that will be attending our wedding, because I'm hoping to make up little activity packs for them.

Invitations

This is another sort of DIY project! For the invites we decided that we would to the calligraphy to address the invitations ourselves. I was a little nervous, but I think it's coming out good so far! It's also not taking me quite as long as I thought it would, so provided that school work doesn't get in the way (which it very well might), we are also thinking about doing wax seals on the back of all the envelopes! Here's a sample of my calligraphy:

P1040140.jpg

Hopefully I will add more updates later this week!

I hadn't stopped by your PJ in a while, so a few things:

LOVE your centerpieces, I really like the bookmarks! Nice touch. :thumbsup2
The wooden bidhouses will be a great addition- can't wait to see how they turn out once painted.

Great find with those crayons. I will be stopping by my local Michael's to see if they have them too! I don't have too many kids coming so it won't be a huge splurge, and I was thinking of making welcome bags for everyone anyways. :)

The invitations look good too, and the calligraphy is coming out nicely. You are very good.

Yay for Df's new job!!! & that you will be able to go the Harry Potter conference. Being such a huge fan I can't believe that you missed that two of the books in my e-pics are HP books! ;)
