Beatles songs

Oh, wow, I liked so many that others have mentioned, but one that immediately came to mind was Across the Universe. Others that I liked were While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Blackbird, and I'm Looking Through You.

I had read this thread earlier today and heard a "today in rock history" blurb on a radio station during lunch.

It was on this day in 1973 that the Beatles 62-66 and Beatles 67-70 were released in the UK

It seemed fitting since "old" vs "new" Beatles was discussed :)

I'm a teacher! My favorite Beatles song is "Hey Jude". I've loved it since I was 3 yo ... my Dad's parents owned a bar and when they'd play the song on the juke box, I'd sing and dance. Since then, it's been my favorite!

If I absolutely had to pick one I would say Here, There and Everywhere. It's not as well known but so beautiful.

So many, it's really hard to choose. Tell your teacher that I saw, as in I was really there, the Beatles 3 times! Once at the old Boston Garden, once at Suffolk Downs, just outside of Boston and the mother of all of their concerts... Shea Stadium!

As for the songs, I guess I Saw Her Standing There would rank right up near the top. When that came out it was so unlike anything we had ever heard before.

Here Comes the Sun and Just about all of Abby Road are on my list as well.

my favorite was when i'm sixty-four. no idea why, just always thought it was a sweet song. i also loved across the universe and being for the benefit of mr. kite.

my mom was a huge fan and we used to listen to them all the time when i was in 8th grade. tell you the truth, i actually listened to them so much i'm sick of them now. i do love their movies though.

What a great question! Let me take a trip down Memory Lane (not to be confused with Penny Lane :goodvibes ) and give it some thought!

It’s hard to choose a favorite, as there were so many great songs! In thinking about it, I suppose I can come up with several favorites (sorry, couldn’t pick just one). I tend to lean to those that tell stories of love, quite passion, loss and triumph set to hauntingly beautiful melodies:

The Long and Winding Road
In My Life
Blackbird
Here, There and Everywhere

There’s something about these songs that just seem to touch my soul.

The Long and Winding Road has always been one of my favourites. :)

Nobody mentioned my favorite yet:

The Ballad of John & Yoko

Oddly enough, it is a Beatles song & not just a John Lennon song. I just love to sing & dance to that one!

Can't believe I forgot that one, it's one of my favorites~SO much fun to sing to, has a great beat!!

Another question if you read this post:
What was your opinion of them after you heard what one of them (was it John?) said about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus? Were you still fans or did you join the crowd in burning pictures and smashing records?

It was John, and he said it in reference to teenagers in Britain. The quote came out in a UK interview months before Datebook published it in America and it was no big deal. He said it as if many things were more popular than Jesus, and he was probably right. PLEASE NOTE: That doesn't mean "better" or "greater", just more popular.

BTW, I don't think the smashing and burning happened in more than just a few cities(mostly in the south). In fact, it may have been limited to Birmingham where a couple of DJs made a stunt out of the whole thing.

Thanks for the info! I don't get why so many people would stop listening to them because of that. As you said, I think, he did not say the Beatles are better than or more powerful than or more amazing than Jesus. He was simply stating, in my opinion, a fact. I was just curious as to what everybody's reaction was when they first heard it. My teacher said that after "thinking long and hard about it, after all, she did have a lot invested into them" (read: Beatles wallpaper cut out from magaizines, over 300 drawings she did of the Beatles, etc.) she decided she probably couldn't be a fan of theirs anymore. Actually, knowing her, I was surprised that she didn't feel more like I do.
