Bear Hugs & Piggy Kisses - Baby's 1st Trip ~ Updated 12/6: Aulani TR Started!!!

Your Hawaii deal is amazing! I can't believe you've managed that trip for such a price. Izzy really is doing so much traveling! I can't believe you'll be back to Disney again this month. We just missed running into each other, btw. I renewed anyway and briefly considered that AP deal at Pop. We decided to skip the long weekend with the start of school. This Frozen craze is wild and I'm avoiding all of it! :rotfl: Hope you both have a great time!

Her Olaf shirt is adorable. I love that you just let her keep wearing it, too!

*clap* *clap* *clap* I bow to your deal making prowess!! I just told Andrew what your Hawaii total is and he goes "HOW did she do that??" And I told him that you're a deal making bad a$$! Lol
Aw, thanks. Really, though, as much as I like to get good deals, this one (especially the airfare portion) was primarily ridiculous good luck! And the two free nights at Aulani is just really lucky too, I think. I doubt they offer that often - I'd never heard of it before. :confused3 It's funny to think that three round-trip airfares in coach should have cost more than that whole resort/air total!

I love how Izzy has so many opinions now! :) reminds me of someone else I know. Caden also gets upset sometimes when I make him change his shirt or refuses to get dressed without a fight until I figure out which shirt he wants (which of course is rarely one of the two I offer him. Lol)
Yeah, toddlers can be such opinionated little things! :rotfl: Tonight, during dinner, Izzy saw our Magic Bands and insisted on us wearing them. Dug tried to wear the "Mommy" one and Izzy freaked out yelling, "No, Mommy! Mommy! No!" So, we wore our Magic Bands until bedtime. And, of course, she was angry when we took them off and put them away, but so it goes.

I'm jealous of all of izzy's traveling. I have the travel bug and I'm stuck in MO! Only 5.5 more months! Lol
Come visit us in MN! :goodvibes Any day or weekend trips you can take down there? :confused3 I can't wait for your trip!

Ps I just (like 5 min ago) ordered one of the new Mickey bumpkin bibs! I'm so excited. Yes he's 2.5 but I still use it when he eats messy things and I'm pretty sure he'll need a Mickey bib for when he eats his Mickey ice cream bar!! Obviously!
Yay! I'm tempted to get some, but really trying to save my money right now and it's hard to justify when we have so many bibs. By the way, the pocket really comes in handy for crayons that roll off the table and leaky restaurant milk cup straw holes. :rotfl:

Man your Hawaii trip is just amazing!! I so wish I could take advantage of that deal! I'm assuming the points thing is just for this fall? So nice of the points person to refund your money for those points though!
Yes, the points thing goes through part of December, I think. Crazy deal! We really lucked out on the DVC rental. I was nervous about renting points from a stranger, but she has been fantastic to work with and I'd rent from her again for sure! (she also owns at AKL, so I'm keeping that in mind if we decide we can swing the May trip, which is still not 100%).

BTW it's been nearly 20 years now, but I remember doing both the Dole Plantation and Pearl Harbor. Loved them both!

My dad lived on Oahu, and we were estranged, so as such after 2 trips to Oahu and me being worried I would run into him, we started going to Maui instead. There is a lot to do on Oahu though and being at Aulani is going to be so neat.
Oh, wow, I didn't realize you'd been there and all. Good to hear that you liked Oahu and there is a lot to do. I keep seeing things where people say there's not much to do, then I look at my ever-growing to-do list and wonder why they feel that way. :confused3

What characters are at the character meal?
I actually just saw someone post the answer to this the other day. I think they said that you meet Mickey at the entrance for a picture, then Minnie and Goofy are walking around while you eat. Minnie will be great!! (Side note: our daycare person told me today that one of the older girls wore a Minnie shirt "because she wanted Izzy to like her." :confused3 :rotfl2:)

That is funny about Izzy's Olaf shirt! Aria wore an Elsa princess nightgown to daycare one day last week, also because she refused to take it off.
Aw, cute - it's nice that it's acceptable to wear pajamas when you're out if you're a toddler. I was worried that I should have bought more than one Olaf shirt, but I'm glad she finally agreed to change.

Does Aulani also have the alcoholic dole whip version?? I have to check that out at AK this trip!
I saw some people talking about that on the DIS and the consensus seemed to be that it was self-serve Dole Whip and you could feel free to add your own rum. Maybe I will have to see if I can pick that up at Target? I am planning to get one at AK in August, so we'll see if I like it first, I guess.

I just can't get over the deals you got to Hawaii!:rotfl:
I think it's safe to say, I'm super jealous. That's just incredible. I'm pretty sure my Disney trip last December cost more than 1,800. And we stayed in a value!:lmao:

I can't wait to hear all about your trip. I'm sure it'll be amazing.
I can't get over them either! :lmao: Of course, we will have other expenses: rental car (currently have a $290-ish rate for a standard size), meals (will use discount WDW gift cards while on property), activities and admissions, etc. We're going to try to keep it reasonable, though.

Don't be jealous - I'm sure that you can live vicariously through an excruciatingly detailed TR that will drag on for at least 27 months, the way I do them. :rotfl2:

I know what you mean about having every MagicBand color. I think I only need yellow now. Alex has joked that we'll have to start putting different names on the bands to tell each trip apart.:lmao:
I saw that TheMaxRebo was smart and added the year onto his. I only got creative enough to change my one for this trip from my name to "Mommy". Maybe I should have a "Dugette" one...hmmmm.

Izzy just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I can't believe how fast she's growing up. Still super adorable though!
Thanks! I know, these kids just keep getting bigger and stuff! Crazy! They are like little people now instead of babies.

Wow, what an amazing deal you got for Hawaii! I think 9 nights will be perfect - it's such a long flight that you have to make it worth it. We went to Maui for our honeymoon and spend 10 days there and could have stayed longer. I can't wait until we get to go to Aulani, but it's probably still a few years away for us.
I have heard that about it being a good idea to stay longer than a week to make the long flight worth it. Of course, we booked this flight without any of that "planning" stuff :lmao:, so we just got lucky. We actually booked the dates we did because we thought we might want to do the Norwegian cruise and needed to leave enough time - but it ended up being too much (over $4k), so we went with the "bargain" Aulani stay instead. Man, I'm using a lot of quotes here. :rotfl2:

Those pictures of Izzy from the Wisconsin trip are just too cute!
Thank you! I think we got a few pretty adorable ones!

Welcome back again! I can't believe the trip either. Or all of the traveling Izzy has ended up doing so far. Or that I'm back at WDW again so soon!

Aw, bummer you're not going to be there. If you change your minds and get sucked into the Frozen vortex over Labor Day Weekend, let me know!

Thanks on the Olaf shirt. I actually got it in the toddler boys section, but I think it's cute on her (though she did get mistaken for a boy once while wearing it...) And, hey, at least with her wearing it all the time, I'm getting my money's worth, since this was one of the few things I bought her at full price. :rotfl:

That is just such an amazing deal you got ... and also this latest update/discount was a lesson in "why not explore/ask - you never know"

I know some of the people from the DISunplugged recently went to Hawaii and did a video tour/update on it. I know they went to the Dole Plantation and the famous ice place - but I am sure they did more. Not sure if that would help out at all.

That's funny about the Olaf shirt - and even funnier to me since I literally just bought the same shirt for Peter today at Target

The Snuggle Puppy book is great "Ooooooooo....." ... though Peter never got that into it - it was one of Olivia's favorites. Love all the Sandra Boyton books - Peter likes the Puppies one (with counting the 10 dogs)

My son loves the Puppy one too!! And blue hat green hat (or as we call it "oops" lol)

I can't believe that you're three months away from Aulani! That's so awesome.

Wow, that's just awesome news! You guys are going to have a great time. There's no way at all anyone could beat that deal.

haha - I totally chuckled at that as we have that book too and the "oops" is the part that Peter reads and says it so enthusiastically :rotfl:

I think my favorite of her books is "Not the Hippopotamus"

Absolutely! I figured it couldn't hurt to ask, but I really didn't know how our DVC person would react. She really wasn't under any obligation to even call for us, but it turned out pretty awesome! Just got the refund check from her in the mail today! :thumbsup2

Oh, great, thanks - I will look for that! I'm definitely in the information-gathering stage and that sounds perfect!

Coincidentally, she actually wore the Olaf shirt again today. I was pulling all of her clothes out of the laundry before getting her dressed and asked her what she wanted to wear. Immediately, she responded, "Olaf! Olaf!" So, yeah, that's what she wore. I'm realizing that I need to figure out how to make her look more "girly" when wearing it, though, since it is technically a boys shirt. Both other families at the playground today thought she was a boy, despite the cute white shorts, Elsa socks, and pink shoes.

Every night before bed, it's Snuggle Puppy and Barnyard Dance (Izzy is obsessed with cows and moo now). I will have to find that puppies one you mention - sounds right up Izzy's alley!

My son loves the Puppy one too!! And blue hat green hat (or as we call it "oops" lol)
Hmmm, really must find this book!

I can't believe it either! :cool1: I think it will be an awesome time and certainly qualifies as the deal of a lifetime! ::yes::

Man, there are a lot of books I don't know about. :rolleyes1

We arrived at the Magic Kingdom a bit before 5pm. The party didn’t start until 7pm, so that gave us a couple of hours to enjoy the pre-party atmosphere before getting kicked to the curb. :rotfl2:

I believe that we split up before security. Dug took Izzy and the stroller/bags and I just cruised through the “guests without bags” entrance, scanned my band at the turnstyles, and made my way in this direction:

No, not for the Lunching Pad. For the mountain behind it. I grabbed a paper FP for Space Mountain that would be valid from 5:35-6:35pm.

Meanwhile, Dug had made his way into the MK and was hanging out over near the barber shop. While he was there, the flag retreat ceremony took place:

At that same time, I was wandering around in front of the train station, looking for Dug, and noticed the ceremony. I had heard about it, but never seen it before, so just stopped where I was and watched:

Very cool to see this!

After it was over, I saw a text from Dug that he was near the barber shop, so went to find them. We started our “party night” by getting a Photopass picture:

We saw some fun sights on Main Street too:

That Cast Member was having a good time with that group!

Time for more Photopass pictures! Between the shirts and the photo borders, I’m pretty sure we could pass as MVMCP attendees ;) :

I had seen something on our intranet at work before leaving that was a place where other Target team members were posting pictures of their Bullseye dogs on “vacation” all around the world. So, I had to make sure to get a picture of Bullseye Mickey in front of his castle that I could share:

On our way past the castle, we caught part of the show and stopped to enjoy it from a distance:

I guess Izzy liked it okay.

After the show, we continued to our destination:

And a look back:

We heard somebody telling another member of their party, "It's not a ride, it's a museum!" while entering! :rotfl:

We took the fun queue to let Izzy play:

The ride was good and Izzy wasn’t bothered by it at all. Big fan of dark rides! :thumbsup2

As we made our way to the next destination, we noticed that the lights were on at It’s a Small World:

The ride was scheduled to be down for refurbishment until the next day. Since it was so bright, though, I thought I’d go ask the Cast Member at the entrance if it was open. I was informed that it would be opening at 7pm, when the party started. Given that we were only impersonating party-goers, we’d have to wait until our last day to ride. Bummer, so close!

We moved on and made it to our next destination:

Up next: Dumbo at night!

No don't stop there! It's just starting!

Love the first pic of you guys all together. It looks so great. All of them do but I like that one the best :)

Looking at Izzy does she just seem so young to you now? I know I look back at photos of Caden from even just a few months ago and think "wow! He looks like such a baby. And I thought he seemed so big at the time!" But he's just so much bigger and grown up now.

Ok, just for you I'm going to start working on another update right now! :goodvibes

Thanks! Yeah, I really like the pics we got while "attending" the party. :thumbsup2

Absolutely! Especially because I've been throwing in these current real-life updates, then jumping back to little 14-month-old Izzy. It's crazy that she was just a bit over 1 then and is nearly 2 now!

I love you "Christmas party" pics - could totally get away with telling people you went.

Well, in some ways the HM is a museum of classic Disney imagineering ;)

Cool idea with the target dog!

Thanks! We felt enough like we went, between the shirts, the lights, the snow... And we have some nice Photopass pics to show from it. :thumbsup2

True, I suppose. Just thought it was funny. I suppose it's like a museum that you ride a slow-moving tour vehicle through? :rotfl:

Cool idea with the target dog!
Thanks!

Our plan for Dumbo was to play in the tent while we waited. However, there was really no line, so they told us we could play as long as we wanted, then just enter the queue. We enjoyed the toddler area for a bit. Izzy was new to slides at the time and this little one was one of her first:

And some video of her trying it out:

(click to watch)

Of course, after that, she desperately wanted to climb up the slide. :sad2:

She also played in the other toddler areas, like the little car:

After a short while, we headed out to get on the ride. It’s so pretty at night:

We had a fun ride, but there is not a single decent picture from our ride, though. Oh, well. :confused3 However, I do have this picture of Izzy and I in the stationary Dumbo (best we could get):

After Dumbo, we made our way to Tomorrowland. This isn’t a great picture, but it shows how the party décor was all lit up:

This is where I was headed:

I’m pretty sure that we did NOT get a Rider Swap for this because Dug had already ridden on his late night, but we wanted to make sure I had the chance to ride. I love Space Mountain! :lovestruc I know people complain that it’s rough and makes them sore, etc., but it really doesn’t bother me at all. I just love those little drops in the dark! So fun! :cool1:

After I got out of the ride (around 6:45pm), I met up with Dug and Izzy for another favorite:

Yay, Peoplemover at night! Love it! Especially with all the extra lights for the party. :thumbsup2

On our way back towards Main Street, we had to get a family picture in front of the castle covered in dream lights (we must have skipped the castle-lighting ceremony? :confused3) :

I love how you can see the castle on the phone behind Dug! It was actually already after 7pm at this point, so that’s why we were heading out.

When we got to Main Street, it was about 7:20pm and I decided to try our luck on obtaining food. I asked the CM standing guard outside of Casey’s Corner if we could just grab a bite to go and take it with us. Nope! :sad2: They are really trying to keep non-party-attendees from taking advantage, I guess. But it was really kinda silly, considering they were just turning away people who wanted to spend money. It’s not like we were going to hide in Casey’s Corner, then try to sneak out and see the parade. :cool2: But I’m sure some people try. We just wanted some corn dog nuggets. Oh, well, our back-up plan was Sunshine Seasons, after park-hopping. We’d just have to wait until then. Not a problem.

Having to leave the party, however, did not stop us from enjoying snow falling on Main Street :cold: :

Izzy seemed pretty happy:

Up next: Off to Epcot!

Yay! Update! :)
You guys are such rebels. Lol sticking it out to the last second! (Just kidding)
Seems like a wonderful evening so far, looking forward to your Epcot adventure :)

What an awesome time in MK! You got on quite a bit for the short time you were there! And so festive too, loved all your shirts :goodvibes

That was interesting they were opening IaSW at 7. Wonder why that was!

Love all the pics and agree - some rides are so much fun at night!

How did Izzy do with the late nights and all those lights?

love, love, love Dumbo at night! Bummer you didn't get good pictures though

the fact that you even thought up that someone could hide out in Casey's means that people have tried it. That is cool that you got to experience the snow on Main St.!

I love the Christmas pictures! I was so up in the air about going at Halloween or Christmas. It looks so pretty that we'll just have to add Christmas season to the to-do list!

The Dumbo play area looks like so much fun! I love that Disney has play areas for little ones to blow off steam - going from stroller to ride (and sometimes a high chair in between) must get old!

Caught up again!

Mmm, that shake looks delicious! Wonder if that can make that without bananas?

I can't remember if you had mentioned or not, but how did the milk situation work for you while at the World? Would you just buy milk throughout the day?

I would have been freaked out too about that large group getting on to our bus. Glad it worked out though!

Even though the ocean view would have been totally amazing, $450 sounds even better!

Yay to the dole whip! I mean, don't you think this should have been one of the first things to be added when they first opened up?!

Your Christmas outfits! Love them! :cloud9:

Agh! I totally forgot about the toddler play area! He was never able to walk so we just skipped it, but i'm so excited for him now! :hyper:

Aw man, too bad you couldn't grab the corn dog nuggets. But hopefully Sunshine Seasons more than made up for it. I love that place!
