Beach trip possibilities?

Hey my knowledgeable friends - our trip is now just 30 days away!!!!! Not that we're getting over excited of course!!!!

So, we're staying in Davenport and do the usual parks etc but are planing a day at the beach

We've been advised to stay west coast and are good with that as previously loved Tarpon Springs / Clearwater areas.

Two beeches have been suggested to us - Venice and Siesta Key - hoping for perfect beaches, little shops and cafes etc.

Looking at the driving it appears that both places are 2 hours from Davenport and about 20 apart from each other.

Two questions: do you guys and girls think it would be feasible to drive to one for the morning, the other for the afternoon and then drive back in one big day trip?

And / or does anyone have any better beach options?

Thanks everyone

Chris

Sarasota is usually a good 2 1/2 hour drive from Orlando :goodvibes

We like Longboat Key but there is nothing but beach.

Anna Maria Island is nice with a nice beach and lots of places to eat.

Haven't done either Siesta Key or Venice to advise on them.

We like Clearwater and Bradenton beaches, both have wonderful sandy beaches, parking close by and a selection of places to eat but not a typical 'boardwalk'.

Siesta Key is very much a "perfect" beach - perfectly white sands, wide and flat. Venice has the cute shops etc. But both of these are a fair trek from Orlando - 5 hours on the car isn't my idea of a good day trip. Beaches around Tampa would be more doable.
