Beach Club Villas Renovations, some good, some disappointing

But as I initially stated, one of the most obvious changes was removing the ceiling fans and the jacuzzi. OK I can understand the jacuzzi because they probably promote bacteria but its Florida! Why would anyone remove a ceiling fan in Florida? They did not have to touch them and it would not have cost anything.

PS I love ceiling fans. I cant have one here in my home in CT because we live in an old house with low 7 foot ceilings and the four poster bed my wife wanted is literally about two inches from the ceiling.

Agreed. I don't think costs really had much to do with it - only design selections.

He is trying to make it Iger World. Disney is just too old and no one knows who he is or cares. Sorry to say but that is how it feels to me

So if it is a decision to position DVC, it's value, moderate, DVC, then deluxe. I'm still trying to understand why no DVC refurbs for years and now most DVC resorts are having something done. Maybe Iger's secretary stayed in a DVC room and told him how bad it was?

Everything Disney does now is cost related and I mean everything from outsourcing the IT and other department to doing away with non-expire tickets. If not then why do they insist on putting this generic stuff in the DVC rooms now? Why if cost is not a concern do they not keep the theme inside like it is outside??...smjj

The only way that cost comes into play is if Disney is keeping dues costs as low as possible to promote DVC as a cost savings purchase for new direct buyers.

The website has some major continuing issues, why, because DVCMC pays for it out of their pocket. New prospective buyers don't know about website issues so no reason to improve it.

Disney is a corporation just like any other with stockholders to report to and different parts of it like DVC need to account for every penny and save, save save when they can. I fail to believe that DVC does not consider cost as a major factor when making decisions(I wish that were not the case). As to the website, several articles have been written about how Disney outsourced it and had the laid off cast members train their H1B replacements to get their severance package...smjj

Because DVC resorts are timeshares. We pay for everything that happens at them. Disney operates a management company to run them but it's outlined what they receive for payment. We owners pay for the refurbs, not Disney. Each year the dues include a capital side which goes into a reserve for refurbs. If the money is not spent from the reserves it sits there, it doesn't go back to Disney's pocket.

For the hotel room side it would be as you say.

Perhaps his kids are taking their kids........ Or he popped into a few rooms when he was there suggesting a change in carpet for the Poly Bungalows.

Really, the deluxe resorts were pretty much on par with DVC for many, many years. It hasn't been all that long that they started bumping the deluxe up a tiny bit although calling them Deluxe still remains a pretty good stretch of the imagination. All in all they have long relied on the parks to be the draw.

Strange that people are complaining about the refurb in BCV and most are happy with the refurb just across the water at BWV. Did they really do that much better of a job at BWV? And if so I wonder why. Now IMO at a place like GFV I suspect when the first refurb comes it will be done right due to the clientele that stay there. Hopefully they will also do a good job at BLT also because it is tied closely to MK. I know people were not that impressed with BLT from the get go but I actually like it and think it is better than some of the more generic refurbs done recently at say VWL.

The pattern seems to be build the resort/rooms with great theming, sell them, then after selling out, refurb them with less theming and plastic flooring.

I agree but it will be interesting to see what happens when it is GFV turn for its first refurb. Something tells me things will be different there. We will have to wait and see. Maybe DVD could call for a vote at the annual meeting the year before a DVC will get a refurb and just bump up the dues for one year to get a better refurb for that DVC resort. Then back to regular dues rate for the following years.

I think you're right. The new VWL -- Copper Creek Cabins & Villas--will have themed decor(though not like the original WLV's), in contrast to the plainly refurbed WLV.
SO potential buyers will determine that say $185 for the new DVC
to be " worth " it over buying into a generically refurbed VWL, BWV, etc.

I resent that the hotel rooms now have more theming than the refurbished DVCs.
ALSO, I think you mentioned this before, @disneynutz, THAT the new refurbed can make the villas less desirable for spending time in the villa. which translates into MORE time & $$$ spent in the parks, etc., making the bean counters happy.

Wow, I like the refurb at BCV, and I had also liked the pre refurb BCV. Proud NewJerseysian here and liked the map of south Jersey that was in the dedicated 2 bedrooms before. I think the new dedicated 2 bedrooms have subtle shore nuances.

What I do not appreciate is the table in the studio, we're in refurb one now. Even putting a little pressure on the top could cause the table to collapse! One think I like is the bath tub area in the studio does have a soap dish area. In the dedicated 2 bedroom there is a shower stall rather than a tub in the second bedroom.

I've been in rehabbed BWV and now BCV and have no major complaints.

That is assuming that Copper Creek Cabins and Villas will be a totally seperate DVC from VWL. Do we know this yet? I am asking because I really didn't know if that decision has been made. IMO if the new Copper Creek is to become a part of the VWL I would guess that the converted villas would be done in the same generic fashion as the recent refurb villas as to match up with them. The cabins however to justify the high points needed to stay would be done with a great theme and upscale look. It will be interesting to see what they do as to combine the new with the old villas and the expiration date for the resort as a whole. Or seperate expiration dates for that matter. Probably should have started a new thread on this subject.

Edit: started new thread on this subject.

Safe to say that the new VWL will be a separate resort with a 50 year term and the old VWL will stay the same. Each will have their own 11 months booking advantage. No different than PVB and VGF.

Bill would it be to much trouble to post this on my new discussion thread on this subject. I respect your opinions and knowledge on all things Disney.

I believe in the little they announced the referred to it as a new development. That it has a new, separate name pretty much confirms it, otherwise it would have the same.

Well I started this and am going August 5th to pick up my son from his internship and staying one night at a lake front 1 BR at BWV. If they took out the fans and Jacuzzi, I will know its a system wide change.

In January we typically fly down for a week and then drive up to Atlanta to drop DS off at school and then fly back to CT. We stay three nights at GFV because of the newness (and especially for the ceiling fans and Jacuzzi haha).

I heard early on that they didn't put in alarm clocks in the new BCV rooms. Is this actually true, or did they end up adding them? I will bring my own if they haven't.
