Okay....assuming some level of truth to the rumors about
BCV starting sales on February 3,
cash ressies available starting August 1 and
DVC ressies starting September 1......

IF SAB closes for pool hopping for non-BCV guests, when do you think they will enforce the restrictions under the above scenario. Would they start August 1 or September 1, or some later date?

I know the SAB pool hopping restriction is just a rumor...don't want to debate that or if it's fair. Just looking for opinions on when they would enforce it if they did it.

Good question Granny. IMHO Disney won't do anything right away as the villas will take some time to sell and it will be opening in low season. I would expect they will impose more restrictions on pool hopping around Thanksgiving and peak travel times besides the Christmas and Easter black outs and see how it goes. This certainly would be the more diplomatic approach as far as DVC members are concerned. It also kind of depends on what the villas pool is like- will it be just a simple quiet pool or a little more elaborate ?

Good question....I think it would depend on their motives for banning SAB from pool hopping (if indeed they do). If they are trying to boost sales of BCV they might actually remove it immediately, even though it really doesn't make sense logically to do so, and would probably anger many current members. If they are legitimately concerned with overcrowding I think they'd at least wait until its open for members on points...if not after the following holiday seasons (thanksgiving, christmas and easter). As much as I hope it isn't restricted further than it currently is....with the current management philosophy at WDW I'd think they'd do it just to boost sales of BCV. But we'll just see what happens!

I do find the idea of a mini-SAB at the BCV a really good one....that could help ease up congestion and solve the whole problem. I doubt it though.

I always thought that they would announce that pool-hooping will cease at SAB about the time that they open the villas. But after thinking about it they might not do that. Instead to avoid complaints they may just decided no pool-hopping there on a day by day basis. Which I think means that there will be no pool-hopping at SAB but they will never announce it formally. Just everyday when you call it will not be opened for hopping and people will give up trying after awhile. Just an idea.

I think you are all making good points.

Here's my two cents on my own question.

On one hand, they might suspend pool hopping as soon as they allow anyone to stay there (August). But since pool hopping only affects DVC, it would make more sense to eliminate it once DVC members can stay on points (September).

I can only see two reasons why they would suspend SAB from pool hopping.

1. Motivate new (potential) and current DVC members to buy into BCV.

2. Once BCV is built, they anticipate overcrowding at SAB.

Assuming both are correct, my guess would be a September change of policy. I guess that would at least give us the summer to enjoy it before we have to stay at BCV (or BC or YC) to enjoy the SAB pool. :(

The last two vacations we've pool hopped (legally) at SAB and both times I've been very disappointed. Our favorite part of the pool is the "sinking sands" area, and it has been broken these past couple of times. Our first experience with SAB was wonderful, but it appears that Disney should spend some money to fix their pool. I guess the rumored suspension of the use of SAB by DVC members is not going to break my heart.

Well that is interesting. How can the sinking sand be "broken". I thought it was just an area of deep sand. I guess thats what I get for thinking.

The sinking sand has moving water jets under it that suspends the sand so you sink to the bottom, under the sand, just like quick sand I suppose (though I have never been in quicksand to compare). As the jets move to another spot the sand you are standing in resolidifies around your leg.
The sinking sand wasn't working last July during my visit but was operational in July 2000.

Windjammer, thats for that explanation. It is interesting to know how that really works.

We are not DVC members yet but really want to buy BCV this spring as BC is our favorite resort.

Just wanted to pass along some info about SAB that I learned when we stayed at BC this past summer. The sinking sands did not work as good as they did when we stayed there in 91 and 94 (I think). Anyway I was talking to one of the lifeguards and he said the jets that blow the water under the "sand" gets crusted over, kind of like lime deposits on your water pipes, and with less air coming out of the jets, there are less air bubbles under the "sand" so it doesn't sink as well when you walk over them. They clean it out every so often but it's never been as good as it was originally.

Granny,

I don't see any reason for Disney to end pool hopping unless a pool has a capacity problem. If there is a capacity problem they should stop pool hopping for a reasonable period of time.
Don't think they will stop ph to help market BCV.

ralphd:) :) :) :)

ralphd....

I agree it doesn't make sense to block ph at SAB, but it seems to be a consistent rumor for at least the last several months.

Let's hope they at least see how bad it gets before they take the privilege away!
