BCV disappointment in room and smoking room

I was very disappointed in the wear and tear that the room we stayed in already showed for only being open less than 6 months. There was nail polish or something on the table in the room, the bathroom vanity had something else on it like a cigarette burn, stains on the carpeting and the area around and under the microwave had sticky material.

This was all after we got stuck in a smoking room after requesting a non smoking room. We complained and they said there were no other rooms available. They offered to come up and refresh the room. We returned from the parks and nothing had been done. We called houskeeping and the front desk again and they said they would come up and do it and we had to be out of the room for 1 hr. We went off to the parks to come back. There didn't seem to be much difference and actually after a few hours the smell was bad. Having a daughter who has allergies I can tell you what the rest of her vacation was like.

What do other members do when they get caught in a smoking room after requesting a non smoking room

Ed

Has not happened to us yet in about 10 trips. Did you request a non-smoking room?

I don't know what we would do if we got a smoking room:confused:

DS has asthma and there is no way we could stay there. I always request a NS room.

I am sorry this happened to you. Also a bit surprised, there are so few smoking rooms at BCV you would think that this wouldn't be a problem. There are:

6 - Dedicated 2 bedrooms
6 - Lock-off 2 bedrooms
4 - Dedicated Studios
2 - Dedicated 1 bedrooms

When I found this information out, I kind of assumed that no one that requested a non-smoking room would ever have to be in a smoking room. I guess that theory was wrong. Do you know if they are still giving out rooms first-come first serve or was this room pre-assigned to you?

Another example of why all WDW(or at least DVC ) resorts may be "Non-Smoking "in the future.

Once we made a ressie at BWV only a few months out and requested non-smoking, but got smoking. I just figured since we "requested" it so late, that's why we ended up in a smoking room. And it stunk!

Can't wait for that day, ncligs.
SimbaNoodle,
A few major hotels have started it already. When you check-in they get your credit card number, sign a waiver, and if there is smoke damage, cigarette burns, etc in your non-smoking room, your credit card will be billed ($100-$200) for the cleaning. This will make smokers think twice about lighting up.
Especially in Florida(warm weather state), it is hard for me to understand why they(smokers) can't just step outside ther rooms to light up??? :(

P.S. I am sure Gail will be around shortly to back me up on this.:D

That's disgusting, thank you for the warning about being given a smoking room. We'll make sure to double check our reservation to try to avoid this.

Interesting about the number of BCV smoking rooms, I thought there was a whole floor that was smoking, 4th floor?

Additional reservations for non-smoking rooms shouldn't have been made if there were not non-smoking rooms available. Smoking status of a room is a critical issue.

In almost 6 years with DVC we've never had to accept a "smoking' room. Sorry:( ......

That's right the 4th floor at BCV seemed to be a smoking floor. You could kind of smell it in the hall ways as well. I don't think there is anything that you do to eliminate that smell once it has gotten into the bedspreads, curtains, carpeting, pillows, etc. We even asked for a change in sheets, pillows, bedspreads, towels. Nothing worst than getting out of the shower and drying off with a towel that smells smoke.

May have to pack a bottle of frabreeze for the future.

The problem here is not that someone smoked in the villa before Ed arrived. The problem is he was given a smoking room when he requested a non-smoking room.

Any aggravation should not be directed to the people who smoke in smokeing permitted rooms, but to the CM's at the front desk who assign smoking rooms to non-smoking people.

And by the way, it is my understanding that requesting a non-smoking room is just that, a request. It is not gauranteed.

Thats our point,if DVC was all non-smoking resorts............there would not be any problems for anybody.Smokers would be able to still smoke outside of there rooms, and nobody would have any of the request problems.:D

Actually, a little less then half of the 4th floor is smoking. If you get off the elevators and make a right all those rooms are smoking up to and including the corridar that goes to the right (another poster mentioned that corridar looks like the handle of the Y). After the corridar and to the left of the elevators is non-smoking on that floor.

You and I have been over this many times. I think making all the resorts at Disney non smoking would be a really bad move and one I doubt Disney will do. I realize how smoking bothers some people (well actually a bunch), however, smoking is a legal activity and to stop it in all resorts would "slap" a lot of people in the face. Remember, we pay the same amount of money to be there as you do, we do respect your rights, we would like it if you respected ours.
If Disney did make all the resorts non smoking, you can bet there would be a lot more letters like the one from the OP. Some (well many) would not adhere to the rules and it would be a real headache for Disney. Imagine, for a moment, how busy DVC would be everytime they had to "air out" a room with that handy dandy machine. It would, no doubt, have a very expensive effect on our dues. Disney is terribly lax on billing anyone for anything, so I doubt fining them would work.
Personally, if they institued this policy, I do believe I would sell.
I have no need or desire to be in a place ,where I have paid a significant amount of money , to be told that I can no longer engage in a totally legal activity. Most especially in my "home away from home". When I joined smoking was allowed, if it had not been, I most probably would not have joined.
If it this non smoking rule were institued, you can bet there would be a bunch of non smokers complaining about the smoke outside the buildings. There is no winning in this situation for either side.
As I have asked before, why does it bother you that someone is smoking in a smoking unit? How does it affect you? Why do you care? There are very few units that are smoking why not just let it alone?
Luckily for smokers, Disney has no plans to do this and they do realize that there are many smokers out there, they want the business and don't plan to enact a rule that would cause them to loose revenue.
I do understand the non smokers perspective. I have been in smoking rooms (not Disney) that absolutely reeked and have not been happy. When not at Disney or in Jamaica, we request non smoking rooms (I prefer to go outside). I can only imagine how it is for a non smoker. I do think Disney does a great job on the smoking units. We have taken friends who are non smokers to Disney and they have commented on how "un smokey" the unit was.
For a smoker who abides by every single rule, I find this idea to be a bit off the grid. But, if it happens, I think the smokers get to pick the next thing banned. My vote, rid all the parks of booze.
No drinking allowed in the units, only in the bar. No milk drinking in the rooms. I hate milk, it reeks on the breath. No Eau DE Roade Kill perfumes allowed. I cannot breath (no joke) around them, I am highly allergic to them. See......it can go on and on.
Take away one right and other losses will follow. What will you give up or rebel against if it is banned?
BTW, it is my intent to TRY to quit after the holidays. Wish me luck.

We got stuck with 3 smoking rooms (a GV and 2 studios) on one trip even after requesting non-smoking on all 3 reservations. I didn't realize it until we actually got to the room.

Mousekeeping came and ran the ionizer in the GV - we actually asked them to do this twice. The day we checked in and then again the next day while we were at the parks.

In addition, we requested a fresh bedspread and blankets for the master bedroom - this helped sigificantly as the bedspread is not usually changed between guests.

Beyond that there wasn't much else we could do - OKW was at 100% occupancy and there simply wasn't anyplace else they could move us to.

We weren't happy about the situation, but my spouse increased some of her asthma meds and we got thru it without letting it ruin the trip.

Since then though I've been very sure to confirm at check-in that the room is non-smoking and other than that one instance, have never gotten a smoking room.

Gail,
What is your use year?;)

P.S. Glad to hear of your trying to quit.

This why we make our first/top request Non-smoking, we have always gotten non-smoking, but I am sure it is at the cost of some of our other requests; view, floor, building, etc. If you put the view ahead of non-smoking, they could possibly set aside a good view, but smoking.
Making all resorts non-smoking would be tough, especially in DVC. There are people who bought into DVC as smokers and to take that away could be an infringement on their ownership.

Ed T., May I ask what time you checked in? Thanks!

Lisa

It's terrible that your room was in that condition. It only takes a second to grab a magazine or paper towel to work over when applying nail polish.

Our room at BCV was absolutely spotless, but, there was one problem that I didn't want to mention because of the inevitable debate that follows:

Someone clearly had smoked in our non-smoking room.

The bellhop suggested that we contact housekeeping about it. Since we were only staying two nights, we didn't bother. We assumed that they would spray something, and that only makes it worse IMHO.

Once smoke is in the curtains/fabric, it stays there. :( :( :(
