Bad DVC Sales Experience-questions!

While at Disney in January, we had a DVC sales person we did not click with. All we wanted was some time to formulate a list of questions. He didn't even call us back and we still have questions. Ugh!

1. If we go in January every year, when do we ideally want our use year to start.
2. Do the resorts points stay the same every year. ie. will a one bedroom villa in BLT still cost 194 points in 2014
3. do you have closing costs when you buy additional points

Do you know what incentives are being offered now, in spring 2011?

Thank you everyone. So frustrating, we really wanted to do this, but the whole experience left something to be desired.

Won't let it change how much I love Disney!

december.

maybe. the total points for the entire BLT resort (all the studios, 1BRs, 2BRs and grand villas) for the entire year (jan to dec) will definitely stay the same.

but a 1BR might cost more or less - and january might cost more or less.

but if they increase the point cost of 1BRs in january, then they will have to decrease point costs elsewhere (maybe studios get cheaper...maybe june gets cheaper...) on the BLT pt chart to keep things balanced on the whole.

but that can still stink (or rock, as the case may be) for you as an individual.

3. do you have closing costs when you buy additional points?

didn't have them in the past but it sounds like that will be the case going forward...yes. (but it could change again.)

go to dvcnews.com for reasonably up-to-date info on current pricing.

You can always call back and ask for a new guide. And then ask away on your questions.

Here's a link to the DVC News regarding the current incentives and prices.

An October or December use year would work well for January stays. But I believe the guides are only selling December, February and March UYs right now for new direct sales. We just spoke to a guide last week.

The points for the entire resort stay the same for a year but amounts per day and per villa can change. It's called reallocation and DVC had a couple of reallocation of points in 2010 and 2011. Some week days points per night went up while other weekend days went down. Also there are seasons points go up for holidays and busy DVC weeks or months. The seasons could change because the goal of the DVC is to have every DVC villa booked for 51 weeks a year. So if some weeks are not being booked the points could be lowered for those weeks and raised for high demand weeks. There is a long thread here on the DISboards about reallocations if you want more details. Because of these fluctuations and because we don't always stay in our home resort we have purchased an additional 15 or so points. Some years we get an extra night's stay because of it.

Effective with March 21, 2011 everyone pays closing costs even for add ons. That's a change. A guide told us that it was determined during an outside audit that Disney should have been charging for closing costs on add ons all along.

Buy resale and you don't have to deal with a Guide and you can save some money. :thumbsup2

A friend just bought last week and was offered a September or October use year at BLT. She took October.

The same thing happened to us during our original tour...and we ended up not buying for seven years! The guide giving us the tour was rude and pushy, when we started asking questions about "what if's" he stood up and said "Sounds like DVC isn't for you" and walked out of the room. I couldn't believe it as so many people had mentioned how low pressure DVC was.

Anyway, long story short -- follow the advice given and call to request a different guide (and don't be shy about the reasons why!).

Has anyone gotten a new guide assigned to them not because your original guide left but because your original guide did not call you enough? We bought in 1994 and have had the same guide all along. I got a call from DVC from a new guide and I asked why she was calling on me. What happen to my original guide did he leave? What she said to me was that DVC monitors the # of phone calls the guides makes to their members that bought through them and if there isn't enough contact after buying they assign a new guide. I called my original guide and asked him and he said he wasn't aware of this but he would contact his boss and get me moved back to him.

Has anyone else had this happen? I guess we can expect to be called more often by sales guides now?

Just curious

Thanks

I have be told by more than one insider that there have been changes for CM's just like there have been changes for Members. Disney is becoming more aggressive when it comes to increasing their profit.

They have fired several Guides and hired several from other timeshare companies. They have also contracted sales out to other non Disney employees. A couple of years ago the ASA's had their pay cut and Disney changed the formula for commissions. Several left and many who stayed have become disgruntled. :sad2:

Not exactly; when purchasing direct you can ask for whatever Use Year you feel works best for your purposes just as you can purchase at an 'older' DVC resort that they aren't actively marketing. Despite Guide telling you that ' these are the UY's available ' you will probably be pleasantly surprised at the magic a Guide will be able to work if you state that closing the deal depends upon you getting what you want.

:)

i did NOT like my original DVC guide but purchased anyways. When i was ready to purchase my 2nd contract i contacted him, got that same vibe I received 3 years prior, so i changed my rep!!! I love her and purchased my second contract with her 3 years ago! Her name is Linday Duran and i love her!
