Wonder what kind of lawsuits might have happened if the guy got a broken tooth or if he had fallen on something hard.

Still, IMHO that was a perfect and ideal although uncommon outcome.

Incidents of this kind would be much fewer and farther between if there was more security to deal out consequences in a more controlled manner.

Incidents like this would be few and far between if people actually acted like humans once in a while toward their fellow man.

Don't blame the security for causing one man to shove another man's kid - security is there to diffuse the situation. They shouldn't have to be around every second of the day to make sure someone is acting like an adult, instead of a big jerk.

Place the blame where it needs to be placed, not on security.

For as good as Disney security apparently is, they can't be everywhere all the time - unfortunately.

Our family was in DHS in Sept of 2008. It was evening and I stopped to use the restroom. As I was leaving, a woman came in screaming at her toddler. I would guess he was probably 18 months old. He was dressed in a diaper only, and the woman progressed from yelling to yanking this poor baby around by his left arm and hitting him.

I immediately went to find a cast member, but by the time we got back the woman and the poor child were gone.

I was trying ot remember once at the Poly when the Orange County Sherrifs had to remove a person from the bar, when I realized my avatar. Take a close look at it. It's Mickey standing on some shirtless tool's head. That's Disney security ;-)

In May while we were there I was heading out from the back of the BC and looping around under the slide going through Hurr. Hannah's. This little girl about 5 runs by me screaming "MOMMYYYYYYYY" - so I turn and look and don't see any Mommy's around that looked like they remotely cared. My DD, 14, was several feet behind me and I yelled to her to stop that girl and ask if she was lost. My DD stopped her and before she could even ask her a question a CM appeared from the pool area and said to the little girl "Did your Mommy wander away from you?" Not are you lost but did your Mommy get lost!!!! Not 30 seconds later this woman comes screaming thru HH obviously looking for a lost kid - frightening anytime but worse around a pool. I stopped her and told her the CM's had her and that if she just asked any one of them they would know where the girl was. And shortly after that I witnessed the happy reunion. 3 CM's, 2 Suits and alot of Walkie Talkies -- "situation resolved"

Love this thread! I have always felt the safest in the World and now I know why! I will be hidden security searching next fall during F&W - seems like a good time to do that!

i actually have the opposite- a "where's security" question!

In SEpt 2001 (we were there over 9/11 so this was about on 9/4) my mother slipped, in the pouring rain, on the tile area near innoventions in Epcot (at least I think that is where we were). She fell right on her back, in front of a CM. The CM stopped to help her up, then told her where first aid was. We asked that she show us and she said no, she can't, because she would be late for her shift in one of the gift shops.

No offer to find someone to help lead us (or better yet- come get her- she was flat on her back). However, after my mother reported the incident that night, they called us repeatedly- but clearly only to protect Disney from a lawsuit, they mentioned a settlement repeatedly, not to apologize for their lack of response on the scene.

I imagine things changed quite a bit after 9/11. Having been there for the actual day, I would say they went on high alert immediately. I doubt a fall like that would go unnoticed now!

I can't imagine it as an excuse, really and I don't know how valid the story is, but I read an interview a few years back with an ex-cast member who stated that if a cast member had more than three late punches in their career they could be fired. No exceptions, and even less than a minute could count as late.

Still, though, they should have at least sent somebody else to help.

I got busted once by the undercover security guys while walking into Epcot. They noticed my little boyscout pocket knife clipped to my front pocket. I carry it with me every day and use it to open letters, packages, cut little plastic hang tags off stuff I buy, all sorts of things.

Anyways, the security guy was polite but gave me a lecture about taking weapons into the park and asked me to put it in one of their lockers until I left. I didn't want to make a scene and did so. It was kind of silly for them to make an issue of it. Had it been in my pocket and not clipped to the outside, they never would have known.

I carry a leatherman (a micro one) on me at all times (I know, strange for an 18yo girl!) and since I don't carry it in an outside pouch people never see it! I brought it to the world with me this last May and since it was in my bag, nobody ever said a word to me about it.

Honestly, those bag checks are more crowd control than they are security. My mom is a diabetic and keeps her needles in a clutch bag (within her larger bag) and her glucometer in her bag at all times. The only cast member who has ever (in about 8 trips since she found out she was diabetic) who has asked her to open either of the small bags was at HS during a torrential downpour of all times. It was raining so bad some of the cast members remarked that it was similar to when a hurricane was passing by. And that was the only time she has been asked to open them. I mean, we can both see how most would over look a glucometer. I'm sure enough diabetics go to WDW for their security to know what a case looks like, but the clutch bag is fairly big in order to fit her insulin needles.

On the other side of the coin, I do have a security story to share!

We were at the MK for Spectro one night a few years back. We were on Main Street and next to us there were a couple of women who obviously knew each other and their kids sitting very well spaced out in the sidewalk. A man with a young boy came up and asked very politely if his son could sit in the front row. One of the women said "of course!" and the boy sat down. The man remained standing. Well, two very burly guys (not the kind I'd want to even think about messing with) come out of Casey's with food. One of them bumped rather hard into the gentle man with the young boy and caused him to spill some of the water he had been drinking at the time on one of the burly men's children. Well, Burly Man A completely went off on this guy. He started swearing and then grabbed on of his own water bottles and dumped THE ENTIRE THING on the other guy's kid. Then he started going off on who I'm presuming was his wife for letting somebody else sit in "their seats". My mom had gone off almost immediately after BMA had started yelling. While she found no security, she found an equally built cast member who talked to BMA until security arrived about forty seconds later. All were escorted away.

Regarding the bag checks, last year I was going into Epcot and had "female supplies" in the zippered compartment of my bag. The elderly security guard asked me to unzip it..when he saw what was in there, he blushed beet red and apologized. I thought it was funny and kind of sweet. Poor guy, I wasn't embarrassed at all-he was mortified. I told him he was just doing his job and that it was no biggie.

Because they "blend in" with the crowds, and when something goes wrong they "swoop down and bestow Peace, Harmony, and Safety" among the guests! THIS is why they are COOL!

Don't most undercover security do the same? Only difference is, they don't have pixie dust flying over them... seriously, I really don't see a difference in undercover. Undercover is undercover. A really good undercover, never blows its cover too.. once these undercover are swooping down, guests are watching & their cover is blown. They should be doing it to where they aren't really noticed too much.... Now that is cool, when you don't even realize what just happened.. but it happened..

Was in the shops on Main Street and saw someone stuffing clothing in a big bag at back of store. Thought hey this is one of the many reason this stuff is so expensive and I told a cashier. We watched. No one else in the store even knew the person was being taken out of there for shoplifting. Tourist looking guys approached and escorted them out very ordinarily and behind the gated area at hat shop. Amazing... I swear not another guest in the store or street area was aware of what was going on. Smooth!!!

I saw something similar in the Emporium at the MK. This guy walked out the door closer to the flagpole and before you could blink there were 4 guyys standing around him dressed like tourists who very discreetly ushered him behind the gate next to teh firehouse (where the parade comes out). Had I not actually seen it from start to finish, I would never have realized what was happening.

We were trying to get into Magic Kingdom early to get to the Keys of the Kingdom tour (using non-expiring tix from 1997 that wouldn't scan) and right before the park opened, 5-10 security guards came out dressed in their SECURITY uniforms followed by an older guy with a mustache dressed in khaki shorts, a hawaiian shirt and sneakers. Mixed amongst 40,000, I probably wouldn't have picked him out. But he was easy to spot in this scenario. He also had a headset going from his ear underneath his shirt.

This is correct. During our Keys Tour last week, our guide showed us their system and told us that each tardiness equals 1 pt. After 3 points, you are terminated. Disney doesn't do tardiness. He also told us if any cast member is caught taking any kind of photos "behind-the-scenes", that they will be terminated, and can no longer get a job with ANY disney company or any Disney affiliate....which is pretty much EVERYBODY
