We were there 11/17-24. Stayed in Casitas 3. Room was standard view. Thanks to Buzz and so many others who gave such detailed and glowing reviews. Our overall impression of CSR was very favorable, and we enjoyed our stay there more than we did at POR 2 years ago. Sorry for long report but for those who want some details...

The good: Casitas 3 was a short walk to both El Centro and Bus Stop 2. We only waited on one single occasion for more than 10 minutes for any bus--99% of the time the bus we were expecting would magically appear on cue so there was no wait! We were close to a quiet pool and laundry, and the one day we went to the dig site, we drove over. Buses were always at the ready at the parks, and at MK, the CSR bus stop is one of the first in line! So convenient!

Grounds are amazingly kept up and well manicured. Landscaping is lush and the fountains and pools are also amazing. The poolside grill is fabulous and had great CMs staffed there. Hot tub was wonderful. I'm typically a little squeamish about hot tubs given all you read these days, but a few minutes in that tub quickly erased 3 days of pain from walking all over the World.

Parking was very convenient for going out and about with our rental.

Gift shop at El Centro has a large variety/stock of merchandise. Service was always great. One day I had about 2 minutes to rush in, grab a package we had purchased at MGM, and run back to the bus. A store CM took care of everything for me in less than 30 seconds! Other CMs were very helpful also throughout our stay.

Mousekeeping: average, not Mr Clean-Clean, more like "good enough" clean, but it wasn't scary or anything. Plus we did receive a very nice thank you note from one CM for the tips we had left.

One day, DH left the KEY IN THE SAFE with all the valuables in it! All the while at the park, I'm thinking, good bye credit cards, good bye cash. Nope. Couldn't have been more wrong. Everything was left as is, safe and sound. Wouldn't try that again, but hey, it's nice to know there are still honest people in the [W]orld.:hippie:

When we needed extra towels, a call to them yielded 2 visits with handfuls of towels. Service with a smile, too.

Roomy, clean armoire that housed over a week's worth of clothes for myself and my 2 kids. DH kept his in the suitcase. I thought the noise level (both from the exterior walkways and from the upstairs and adjacent rooms) was extremely low. Barely heard much at all even with people right next door.

Wake up calls always on time. Always. Perhaps this is not surprising to others, but I'm just gonna say, I have stayed in posh 5-star hotels in the ritziest part of London that just could not get the calls done right. In this electronic age, you would think this is a no brainer. DH nearly missed a flight back to the US once because of a missing call!

Guests around us were mostly families. Maybe because it was a holiday week. I noticed no business travelers. My mother did use the business center and said they were extremely helpful and allowed her use of it free of charge for more than 30 minutes.

Could be improved:
As I said, not the cleanest. I just feel like the bathrooms and sink areas at both CSR and POR could really use a good bleach scrub, and I am by no means a neat freak. But with such a small space and so many people using the bathrooms, I wish that Disney would work harder on this. The bathroom really gave me a Cell Block H feeling overall. Lighting was weak, tiles were depressing.

Need to know, but can't be changed:

Typical of all moderates, you're pressed for room when you have 2 kids plus a spouse in the room. And double beds are not queens but that comes with the territory. That's not unique to CSR, of course. Want a deluxe...gotta pay up.

Layout of the resort buildings can be confusing even internally. Took me a couple of days to get the hang of where was what, and admittedly I need extra GPS but I'm just saying, it's a little mazelike. Also, be ready to do some walking if you stay in the Casitas. Elevators and stairways are rather spread out so to get ice or vending or go to the laundry area means tacking on extra time.

We had requested connecting rooms with my parents and they checked in shortly after 3 but we didn't until after 7 or 8. Parents got 1st floor while we were up on 2nd. It's not guaranteed, I know, but it would have made the trip a little nicer.

Biggest disappointment:
No flames--I know others have different opinions and experiences, but we realllllly didn't like Pepper Market. And we really tried to, honestly. We are not picky folks--we ate breakfast there a few times (both there and to go), and also tried dinner. Just wasn't very tasty and not good value. Even grits! They have an asian station but that was NOT Chinese food, try as they might. I seriously felt like college dorm food was better tasting. Out of all the service areas at CSR, I felt Pepper Mkt could have improved service in terms of greeters/hosts, station workers, and cashiers. The 2 servers we had were decent and friendly. But there's an issue with the queuing at the check out line, which I think could be improved if they had an express check out for "to go" folks and didn't set it up so the lines go back so far into the dining room, creating a nightmare when diners in that area get up to order more food and bump into those waiting in line. All I could think about while waiting in a long line to check out was TGM and his "grains of sand" in the hourglass. We skipped breakfast at PM after day 2. It's not that big of a deal if you're not planning to eat onsite much. In contrast, the poolside cafe was perfectly fine--food was way better.

The more time we spent at CSR, the more details we observed that made us feel we would return for another stay there. We'll just plan on buying more items at a grocery store so as not to depend on PM. It's a gorgeous place with a very upscale tropical resort feel that I didn't get when we stayed at POR. Theming is very well executed.

Great info! It's great to hear detailed info about the CSR because I'm considering booking it for our Disneymoon trip due to the value.

So you didn't like PM? It's hit or miss from what I have read on these forums. My biggest concern is them adding 10% gratuity to everything. I just want to get my food and go; therefore, I don't want to have to pay 10% when I could and want to just do it myself.

Also, can I ask about the bedding? I have heard it's a pillowtop mattress, which is fine, but what I am more concerned about are the sheets or comforters...is it like a down comforter/soft blanket type or more like the itchy blanket type? I hope that makes sense. I know I love going to places like the Doubletree because of the nice down comforters versus La Quinta inn because they have the itchy blanket type.

We did not have a comforter/duvet. There is the typical bed spread you'd find in all hotels. There was also vellux/velour type blanket under the bed spread. Not itchy--I am sensitive to this kind of thing, too. Sheets were standard issue hotel sheets, white and not a luxury thread count. You might want to go for the King bed room if you are doing this for your honeymoon. It is a romantic place for nightly strolls and depending on the time of year, sitting out by the lake with a drink is very nice. I had 2 kids with me so that was not going to happen, but you can!

Darn...I kinda of figured it wouldn't have a comforter/duvet, and I really love those! Makes it feel like a hotel. Thanks for the information, it really does help a lot.

Hey, you're headed to WDW! If magic can't happen there, where can it? Call ahead and ask if that is something you can request!

Hi and thanks for posting.
I'm planning on staying at the CSR for the first time in October. I like to keep small breakfast items in my room bagel, croissant etc) do they sell these items any place other than the Pepper Market? And is it true if you take items "to go" there is no gratuity added?

Oh I just can't wait!

There is a small convenience store in El Centro that sells things like Pop tarts, portable cereal cups, milk, fruit, and other food items. There is also a little coffee window in El Centro connected to PM that sells muffins and quick breakfast items. The line was kind of long some mornings, according to DH. I don't think they charged the 10%. We had a rental car so we just drove to Goodings near DTD and stocked up on bagels, cream cheese, and other snacks. You could order from area grocers and just have it delivered to CSR.

They do sell these items at the PM. The PM has its own on site bakery and all items are made fresh. Just ask for a "TO GO" ticket and you will not be charged the 10%.

Also, you can buy food items at La Tienda and even more food items at Panchitos. Pics on my CSR website below.

Welcome back and thanks for sharing!

There are plans to rework the PM next year during a rehab.

How was the transportation?

HI,
Just got back from CSR yesterday and this was our third Thanksgiving stay and I am sorry to say I think our little jewel has been discovered by the masses. We found a whole different feel to CSR this year. There were no conferences but it was very busy compared to the past Thanksgiving weeks we have spent there. I can't describe exactly what it was but it was different. I agree about the housekeeping I think one day out of the nine we were there I felt that the room was really clean. Don't get me wrong it was ok but not super as we had been use to. The buses were also very crowded in fact one day they filled it to standing room only and it was very uncomfortable especially with kids.We had not been use to this in the past. The bar area was still closed and one of the managers told me they expected it to open maybe next week as some work had been delayed. She said it was going to be more upscale for the convention goers. the children's arcade has also been removed from the main building part of the renovation and now there is only one at the dig site. i was also told by the cast member that the small store near the PM was moving up to the pool area as well? Not sure where but up there and that they will offer sandwiches and to go food items. I thought that would be nice for the folks farther away from el cENTRO. PM food was just ok this year and the service was very slow. I do think a better system could be found as alot of time is spent waiting and the rest of your family is done eating. I also saw 2 families being scolded for getting there own pasteries and coffees and then sitting down to eat them. A big no no in th PM. But again the wait times were very long so who could really blame them. As I said we have always loved CSR but left with a feeling that we were not as happy with it as we had been in the past. The grounds remain lovely as well as the pool and the Siesta continues to offer great food and drinks. Sadly, my husband and I had separately thought of maybe upgrading next year to WL. Thanks for listening!

I still believe it is better when there are more convention guests. During the holidays, the conventions tale off and it is more families that take up the space on the buses. I'm sure all the resorts are crowded this time of year.

I heard that the little store was moving to the space where the arcade used to be in the main building. Not the whole space but a smaller portion near the hallway. The rest went to the new RIX. Panchitos carries many of those items too.

I can't wait to get there in February to experience all the changes for myself.

We just got back from a wonderful stay at CSR too! We were in the Casitas, Room 3134. Great location! Bus service was GREAT! We only tried Pepper Market once during our stay - got there about 10:50 pm and they said we could only do take out. (I do understand that they close at 11:00, but they could have been a little nicer about it) Food was pretty good; we brought it back to the room to eat, which worked out great.

Pina Coladas at the poolside bar were very good!!!

We'd definitely stay at CSR again!!

all sounds great. looking forward to it! 3 more sleeps! i requested cabanas 9a. just central i thought to the main building, pool and bus (looked like all equal distances from that location). anyone stay in that building before? am i way off?

I am thinking about trying CSR in Sept. instead of going back to the CBR due to the pool construction going on there... but I do have some questions... What time does Siestas close?... I think it's Buzz's site that I read it closes at seven pm... Is that just for the food?... One of the things we enjoyed on our last trip was a drink in the evening after a busy day at the parks, and wouldn't want to give that up...

I'm also wondering if they are good about room requests?... If I do change my mind and try CSR, I'll only be happy in one of the Cabana buildings due to the beach... 8a doesn't look like it's right on the beach, plus it seems a bit close to the pool... so I'd want one of the other three buildings... However, I would think most people would want that area due to dining on one side, pool on the other... Is it a "preferred" location?... Are most of the "suits" in the Casitas section since it's right beside the convention area?... Also, how long of a bus ride is it to DTD?

TIA... and thanks for sharing that great review! :)

I was wondering about the same thing as far as room location. We booked CSR over all the other moderates (based in no small part becuase of the comments of Buzz and his better half on another thread:thumbsup2 ) for December 13-18. This is our first trip in a very long time away from Pop Century where we have only ever stayed in one of two rooms - we have always been very lucky about having our room request honored exactly.

We have to be away from noise or DH will not be able to sleep at all, but still do not want to walk a mile for food or to the bus.

I still have to research the layout. As of this moment I am clueless. Any pros and cons of different locations would be great.
