Just a curious question... have any of you taken your baby/child to disney and worn a sling instead of using a stroller? Would this be a pain (literally) or would it work pretty well compared to a stroller?

I don't have any kids myself yet but I know I want to get one of those slings just for everyday use and I wondered if it would work well in the parks. I guess if the baby got too heavy you could switch between mom and dad carrying the baby right?

thanks!

I personally find that having BOTH are very important. I do think that strollers are vital for the long walks and just needing to have a place to put them- especially on bathroom trips and such. But slings are SO good for waiting on lines when u can't have the stroller anymore.
I did a mix of both on my last trip w/ a baby and I found them both very useful. It was actually my first trip w/ a sling- and I LOVED it for waiting in lines and then I wouldn't even have to move the baby usually when we stepped into an attraction.
But i'm still a huge stroller fan :-)

I wore both dd's in Disney and being able to alternate between stroller and BW'ing is ideal. I used the stroller for some parks, while others I just wore baby. This time I'm taking my Beco, Hotsling, baby hawk MT, and stroller so I have a selection to keep my back from hurting.

Both is a wonderful idea. And if you have the right sling you can fold it up to basically nothing, or even use it as a blanket for the baby. I enjoyed the New Nataive Baby Carrier. When my kids all grew out of it I even turned it into a sling bag for myself to carry. I missed it!

I'll be there with my 20 month old soon. We aren't taking a stroller. While we haven't done Disney with her since she was very young, we have done other vacations and theme park type things. It works for us. No need to park the stroller, wheel in and around things, avoid steps, etc. We can take turns wearing her. I bring a few different carriers so that we can switch it up from time to time.

I'm planning on using both a stroller and my babyhawk MT on our trip next week.

I've done it with a 6mo and I recommend bringing a stroller as well.

Keep in mind, all babies don't care for slings. In my case, DD#1 wasn't much of a sling kid. DS#1 still sleeps with the tattered remnants of his (he's almost 12!). DD#2 only liked the sling for a few weeks. DS#2 sleeps with his and carries it around daily. So, results may vary, and you can't count on the baby trying the sling for the first time at WDW.

We did find it handy for going on rides and if the baby took a snooze. Mostly DH wore him, just because I was attending to the other three kids. We got several comments on how comfortable he looked, and it wasn't super hot or anything.

In general, I really liked the sling (I used NoJo baby slings--not sure if they still make them).

We leave in 10 days and will be taking our 9 month old. We'll be doing both...stroller and Moby wrap. My wrap is comfortable and I plan on wearing him on rides....I have a fear he might jump out of arms! However, if we were going during a hot time of year there's no way I could handle wearing him....the wrap is too hot for summer and he's 24 lbs. ;)

When we went we took both for our 5 month old. I even made a Disney wrap just for the trip -Pooh and friends on one side ans psychedelic Mickey on the other! Sorry for the big pics!

That's just adorable. I was going to make a Disney panel for my MTB MT. Do you mind me asking where you got the second black fabric?

I concur with others. When we brought dd2 at the age of 9m, she was mostly in a Babyhawk carrier, Hotsling and only occasionally in her stroller. We will be there again in April with our new baby who will be almost 5 months by then. I plan on bringing the BH, an Ergo for dh and a pouch or ring sling. I agree that it is awesome to be able to have baby in a sling for getting in and out of rides, and also for when baby needs snuggle time and to just face mama when there's to much stimulation around.

Thanks! When he would get fussy I'd just wrap him up and he'd be happy as a clam and go to sleep!
I did take my Solarveil ringsling too! I have and older style Sachi baby MT but the straps were too much for me as I'm only 4'11" I still have it...brand new never worn if anyone's interested in it!
Anyway, I got both my fabrics on Ebay...I found that to be the best place to find Disney fabric cheap!
;)

We always took both....i like the fact that we have the stroller to put stuff in, but i normally had my girls in the carrier. I never brought a stroller to places like DTD though..top much of a pain going in and out of stores.

that is soooo cute! is it tough to make your own? I would love to do that someday (when I have kids) so I can customize the fabric! Love it! thanks for sharing!

It's not particularly diffcult...it is however tedious and time consuming to pin it all and get it just right!

Super cute!! I am a wrap lover too (Ok well DD is.lol) I was also thinking of making a wrap for our trip. I have a gypsymama cotton gauze wrap that I love, so I was thinking of getting some cotton gauze and appliqueing a Mickey head in the center. Now I know I am not the only crazy one.
To the pp who wanted to know where to get the Psychedelic Mickey fabric, my Joann's had it on the red tag fabric shelf.
I plan on bringing a couple of wraps, my babyhawk, and the beco for DH.

We used a Mei Tai about 75% of the time when we took DS to Disney at 5 months, we did bring the stroller a few days though. We didn't have any problem with him in the Mei Tai, but the stroller was useful on occation as well. We didn't really need the stroller though, we would have been fine with just the Mei Tai, but with all the walking and such it was nice to have the stroller occasionally to give us a break from carrying him.

When we go back in October we'll be taking a couple of carriers, and a stroller, we figure we'll carry DD 90% of the time, carry DS some, let him ride the stroller some and let him walk some.

I agree that a combination of carrier & stroller is probably your best bet, especially if you don't have a lot of carrier experience to build up your muscles. It can also be good to have 2 different types (or at least know multiple carries with the same carrier) so you don't end up just completely sore from overdoing it.

Gotta plug www.thebabywearer.com for help on finding the best carrier for you (broken record, anyone?), but really, that's the best place for carrier info.
