Austin TX people - Anyone been to The Backyard?

I know this question is a long shot, but I thought I'd try anyway. I'm going there this coming Tuesday for the David Bowie concert. It's general admission, so we're going to arrive early in hopes of getting to the front. Anyone know anything about this place? I'm assuming it's outside because of the name. Is it close to any hotels, etc.?

Hey Krista -

I lived in Austin for 2 years.. and went to a couple shows at The Backyard.. I *love* this venue.. but it really is just like showing up to your friends backyard..

tree roots.. etc..

I haven't lived in Austin since 2001.. but at that time it most definately was NOT near any hotels etc..

It's a pretty intimate setting.. I really like it there.. my favorite show there was Paul Simon!

Have a great time.. and wear comfortable shoes.. the parking lot is a bit of a trek from the 'yard..

Its been awhile for me. I used to try to get there an hour early.

I HAVE to be in the front , so I plan on getting there a few hours early since he is still draws a pretty big crowd. Last time he came to TX he was with NIN in Dallas. My sister and I were in the mosh pit with a bunch of other people who all had on black make-up, etc. You could definitely spot the David Bowie fans in the crowd. We were the unusual looking ones . It was really kind of funny. This time he's with the Polyphonic Spree - I bought their cd just so I'd be familiar with them. Kind of the opposite of NIN.
