Aulani Owners Thread - ALOHA!

Might many locals with children pick Atlantis over Aulani during school breaks for staycations?

Does anyone know what the man’s name is that plays at the olelo room with his granddaughter and one other man? I love his/their music, and would love to buy an album.

I think it would end up being more crowds at Aulani and Ko Olina in general.
We could use an expansion of the resort area. Not enough dining or retail.

Check out the Spotify playlist "Disney Aulani Sounds" if you like that kind of Hawaiian folk music.

Booked some events for our upcoming June trip. Bringing my Mom (who has never been to Hawaii) and an aunt (who has been) with us this trip.

We are over 100 days out and all of the reserved seating for the luau was sold out. Grabbed some standard seating.

So, a reminder to set an alarm at the 4m to 6m mark, depending on the time of year.

Also booked a UTV Tour at Kualoa Ranch and a Sunset Cruise with Ko Olina Ocean Adventures.

We’ll do one day where we do Bishop Museum and Waikiki and a separate day at Pearl Harbor.

That’s enough excursions for a one week trip…. Now we’ll see what reserved seating is available 90 days out….

Is the Luau easily cancelable like Disney dining? I probably need to book but extended family has a hard time committing.

Will be so fun! Have you done the UTV at Kualoa before?

No idea. My rule of thumb on multi-party trips is that we don’t have to do everything together. Decisions will be made by “x date” and if it’s not a committable “yes” from you by that date then I’m assuming it’s a “no” and you can do your own thing.

Maybe that will change when my kids are grown and we have to deal with in-laws…. but I’m pretty militant about not enabling adults to act like children…. It’s actually something that drives me nuts on this board sometimes….

My adult daughter for sure acts like a child. Extra frustrating at times.
We have not. Any tips?
Since your mom is older I would recommend the guided UTV tour as opposed to the one where about 10 UTVs go out at once. Unless maybe if she super duper adventurous! I have heard really good things about the guided one. Slower paced driving if needed and one on one time with the guide. The only downside is if you were excited to drive the UTV yourself. We will likely do the guided one next time if we go again.

Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, potentially permanently dirty.

We’ve done it twice in September, a dry season in Hawaii, and the dust gets *everywhere* and the washers+detergent in the Aulani villas struggle with it. I can’t imagine the mud version of it is any easier to clean.

Also bring face masks (surgical or better) for similar reasons. They’ll give you neck gaiters, but they’re pretty ineffective if it’s dry and dusty…you’ll be eating dust.

We were pretty scared about all the dirt, was not as bad as we thought but I think it had rained the week before so it wasn't muddy and not super dusty so we got lucky. Ive read that the guided is also less dirty since you are alone there aren't any UTV's in front of you kicking up dirt. We were the last in the pack so that enabled us to hang back a bit and could be why we didnt get as dirty as I thought we would.

My Mom use crutches and a wheel chair… so she’ll be sitting that particular trip out.

Bring a mask and wear shirts we are OK throwing away…. that is a good tip!
