August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

Hi Jinny....we had the PLA rotation. We were in Parrot Cay the 1st night (Sat) which was a casual dress night. We were in Lumiere's Sunday night, for formal night, and we were in Animator's on Monday night, which was also casual. I like the way it worked out. It put us in Parrot Cay for Tropical/Pirate night, and Animator's for semi-formal. The thing I try to avoid is being in Parrot Cay on Formal night. It feels nicer to be in the "fancier" restaurant for formal night.

If you link your reservations together to make a group, you can request a certain rotation, yes. And anyone who may have a suite can request a rotation. You can also go to guest services on the 1st day and try to get your rotation changed, but by then, it's not as easy to do.

I like the PLA rotation - makes a lot of sense. I vote for requesting the PLA rotation for the late seating group ~

Barb - I recall reading that you are an artlover? I went to one of those Art At Sea auctions on our Alaska cruise couple years ago - had a lot of fun. Even won a couple of things that they were giving away. If you're interested in going and looking for someone to go with ~ I will!

I stood and watched the art auction for a while one afternoon. I was afraid to scratch my head! ;) I guess I needed to be "in on it" from the start. I was confused...they were bidding on a painting (not Disney) that was covered up, so that you didn't know what you were bidding on. What's that about??:confused3

Oh Eve, as Stacey well knows, that could be very dangerous.....me at an art auction. Of course we can go. My DH will also go, he's the one who got me interested in art. Plus, he wants to keep an eye on me and make sure I don't buy a lot :rotfl2: :confused3 :teeth: .

Stacey, no clue on the covered up piece of art. Now I will have to go so I can figure out if they do that again and tell you about it.
I knew I would find a legit reason to go to the art auction :earboy2:

I went to 2 or 3 of the auctions on our last cruise - didn't actually buy anything but the piece I "won" (that was being given away) cost $35 for shipping/handling. I like the art auctions that this particular company (Park West: http://www.parkwestgallery.com/) does - they do a lot of very different types of auctions - not just straight auctions and they move along FAST. They also gave away spa treatments, etc. The covered piece that they do is just like a regular auction but the piece is guaranteed to be a popular, known, artist like Peter Max, Salvador Dali, Tarkay, etc. - you just don't know which. The caveat is that if you win, and don't like it, there is no obligation. ITA about not twitching or moving a muscle during the auction. Not even a sneeze....lol. :rotfl:

Thanks, Stacy. The PLA rotation sounds good. I agree with Eve - we'll go for the PLA for the late seating group.
Another question, for semi-formal dinner: how dressy or not? What about your daughter(s) - what are they wearing for semi-formal and you all?

I'd probably just wear what I normally wear to work - a pant suit or dress. I plan on bringing a couple of nice dresses for DD to wear to formal and semi-formal nights - probably more of a sundress for semi-formal.

There was a couple at the auction, with their little girl (maybe age 4-5). The little girl kept waving their number in the air...constantly. You KNOW it was Disney, when the Auctioneer just ignored her! LOL.... I can't see letting one of my kids do that, but...to each his own.

Jinny....I had a very loose, comfortable long dress that I wore. It was kind of silky, layered and had some beading. Jordan wore a long dress, prom-type, pink satin. It's the same dress she wore in our vow renewal. Figured we might as well get some use out of it. But she wears beaded flip-flops for shoes! My family (not me, just the others) LOVE dressing up. Jay & Jared insisted (really, I tried to talk them out of it) on taking and wearing their tuxes.

Okay, for all of us that have linked ressies I will request the PLA rotation. We have the REAS package we added to our ressies when we couldn't do the vow renewal for our 25th anniversary and I know if you have REAS you are supposed to be able to request a particular rotation. My logic is that our ressies are linked so one of us requesting a particular rotation should do it for all of us. I'll call on my day off Wednesday. I guess you call Debbie like I did on our last cruise.

I loved the photos Stacey, it will be fun that things are different. Lots of things to watch with the tenders and different boarding, etc.

I need to find a dress for formal night, I never have an opportunity to dress up except for weddings. At work we are business casual, with jeans on Fridays. I have some dressy clothes in various sizes but a lot don't fit me anymore. I should get things out one of these weekends and do the fashion show as we talked about earlier. DD13 has a dress from her semi-formal dance where the girls were more formal (short length strapless dress). She has mostly skirts and tops for the other nights, but I think we'll go shopping for another dress.

DH has nice suits that he wears to work and he brings a more casual jacket to wear too.

Cathy

Stacey too funny about the little girl at the auction. My problem would be that my DD would mean to be bidding and the auctioneer would take it as such.

Cathy, sounds like you have the clothing pretty well handled. Jordan wore skirts and tops the other nights, too. She hates "slacks" and they can't wear shorts in the dining rooms...not that she would...it's either skirts or jeans, no in-between.

Vickie....you can call Debbie...but it will be getting close to the August Repo cruise and Debbie will be starting to get swamped near the time of your cruise, so make sure you call her again to double check everything before the cruise. She had ours messed up and I was glad I called her to double check.

How many people and staterooms do you have that are going to link? I think the official "group" amount is 8 staterooms and 16 - 18 people.....then you could contact the gal in "Group" ressies........

Stacey, there are 6 staterooms, 16 people linked. I wonder if that is enough to qualify as an official "group"

Any of our new cruisers with late dining who want to be linked? PM me with ressie numbers and I'll do that on Wed.
Vickie

Vickie, now I really feel bad. If we had still been able to cruise, we would have been 2 more staterooms, and 4 more people.....:guilty:

Give Debbie a try on Wednesday, and if she doesn't seem to be able to help you, let me know.

Stacey - I was thinking about your trip report last night and wishing that we had booked something of a higher category and was wondering why you booked the Roy and then a different stateroom for your parents. Doesn't the suite sleep 8? I hope I don't sound rude  - I didn't want to suggest that there was anything wrong with your parents but I would try to squeeze as many people as I could into such a big (and expensive) suite. Heck, if I had known you guys were in a suite, I would've re-arranged my work schedule to hitch a ride with you! ;) LOL.

I thought about doing it, but figured I wouldn't have had a house to come home to, I would have been living in AZ :rotfl:
Eve, I will give a crack at answering the parents question. If they all stayed in 1 room there would have been fireworks on the ship a couple of times a day :earseek: and I think Stacey would be living in DE now :teeth:

Barb's right....they wouldn't have wanted to share with us. They were in a handicap room, which Mom needed anyway...and the way that the beds and bathrooms are set up in the Walt and Roy, there wouldn't have been a logical way to accomodate all of us. At least, not in a way that all of us would have agreed was "fair"....since the 2nd bedroom only has twins, they don't make into a queen.
And....by the way, I don't ever think any honest question is rude...that's a very legitimate question. But I didn't book the Roy. I didn't think I was going to get to sail the Magic to Mexico at all! DCL called and had the Roy open....and it was possible for us to work it in, change our schedule some...so I grabbed it. Would I ever do that again? No. Not worth it. The cruise, yes....that much $$ for a room...no.

Okay I just spoke with Debbie. Our dining rotation request is in. She stressed it is a request, not guaranteed, but they try their hardest to accomodate. I will call back the week before we cruise.

:cool1: :cool1: Yea! You'll get it....just make sure you call right before and remind her. The final seating arrangements for the cruise will go in on Wednesday night (before your cruise) at 5 pm Florida time.
