August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

I think my backside just stretched a few more inches. I have been planted here ALL DAY!

Have to take the kids to get something to eat, so I'll finish this tonight.....darn kids, why do they need to eat, anyway????

I was just granted permission from the little Prince and Princess to finish my report. I have a feeling they don't want me to be on here tonight! Ulterior motives with those two...always.

The disembarkation process was a little confusing at first. We had already decided to say our goodbyes at dinner, and not go to breakfast in the dining room.
Each stateroom was issued colored tags (as always) and also a sticker to wear on your shirt....letting everyone know what time you are allowed to disembark. They were trying to avoid having lines wrapped around Deck 4 like they did after the Repo cruise.
People who had an early flight out of LAX could go to Guest Services, show their flight schedule and get White Mickey tags and stickers.....allowing them to get off the ship as soon as it docked. Somewhere in the area of 8:00-8:30.
Also, concierge guests could get the special stickers, too.
If it had been just Jay and the kids and I, we would have gone to breakfast and waited our turn, as our flight out of Long Beach wasn't until 12:30. But I was worried about the lines getting longer later in the morning, and my Mom having to stand all that time. So we got the Mickey stickers. We met in our stateroom at 8:45, and headed downstairs, out onto Deck 4....and reached customs. We waited in line to pass customs for maybe 10 to 15 minutes, and then proceeded down the escalator where we were greeted by the porters. I found the youngest, strongest looking one I could find! We had 8 bags....and all very heavy.
We had no trouble at all finding our bags....they were in the exact room we were told they would be....we stepped outside, and Super Shuttle was ready and waiting. I nearly cried going over the bridge and watching the ship fade in the distance.
Early that morning, I had watched a new batch of crew members get on the ship. Wish I could have figured out how to get in line with them!
I also got to watch them lower the gangplanks....they were on the roof of the terminal building, they move them over toward the ship, then lower them down into place. Fascinating!
Heavy bags....yep....had to do some quick re-arranging at the airport. I had one that weighed over 50 lbs.
We all agreed that if you have to sit at an airport for a couple of hours, it's nice to do it at a really small one, where you can go inside, or wait outside and not worry about missing your flight....and going through x-ray only took 30 seconds.

I guess that's it. If you have questions about the wine tasting, the art auction, things I didn't cover...ask...I have the Navs and can let you know what times they were......

Off to dinner!:wave2:

Did you at least look at the art auction items to see what they had to offer? You know me and artwork, I can't stay away from it :Pinkbounc :earseek: .

It wasn't a lot of Disney artwork. They had some signed prints from a few sports people, Like Muhammed Ali....and some enlarged prints of things like Mount Rushmore (what's it called?) at Castaway Cay. They did have a Captain's hat...but it was actually mostly true art-work....but not any Renoir's.....

Wonderful trip report Stacey and I loved the detail! It went by so fast reading it I almost feel like my cruise is over already. It will be such a let down to just go to the airport and fly all day to get to the East coast and lose 3 more hours to boot. Now I can't remember the things I wanted to comment on. Oh, thanks for the teen report, I will tell Jessica. I also have not been sure about letting her charge to the card, but I liked the idea of making her ask me, she is honest but she loves to shop. She would tend to buy first and justify later. She is going to do some chores this summer to earn credit for the cruise/port shopping.

Stacey, tell me about the wine tasting. I would like to do it. I've also read they have a martini tasting, did you do that or know anyone who did?
Vickie

Vickie, I've done the wine tasting before and plan on doing it again. It was $12. and you sample 3 white, 2 red and 1 sparking. The time I went they were sampling the Fairy Tale Cuvee and it was surprisingly good. You get a paper that explains the different varities and what to look for for strength and body. I'm not a red drinker, but the ones they had weren't too bad. They also demonstrated taking the neck off the sparkling bottle with the base of a champagne glass. Haven't had the nerve to try that one at home. The samples were fairly good sizes. At the end you received a wine tasting pin.
They had the tables arranged ahead of time in groups of 2 or 4.
It does tend to book fairly quickly so go to guest services quickly to book your ressie. I plan on doing it when we board or soon after lunch. The tastings are offered on sea days.

Barb, you did that MUCH better than I could. The times they did these were usually between 2 and 5 in the afternoon. They also had beer tasting, margarita, tequila, and yes...martini tasting. Barb is correct, all on sea days.

Cathy, one good thing is that there isn't a lot in the shops that appeals to the teen girls. They do have a few Roxy items.....but other than jewelry, that's all.
I guess we should be afraid of the jewelry, but Jordan wouldn't dare do that! (not yet, anyway)

Leave her with me in a jewelry store and then we'll see what kind of damage she can do :rotfl2:

But it would be so much fun :Pinkbounc  :flower:
I have good tastes and I would keep things simple for her and even age appropriate :teeth:

I know you have good taste....too good. What was that necklace you made me buy at the Bellagio??

The necklace I made you buy was at Ceasar's and it is a Chopard. I didn't buy anything there because they didn't have the ring I wanted. Now you were all on your own at the Bellagio jewelry store. Oh wait, there was also that necklace at Tiffany's you had to have.

I can tell you are a lot younger than I am...you have a much better memory.:teeth: I can never remember the name Chopard. thx and good night!!

Gonna miss you next week when you go back to Vegas. Better keep DD out of the jewelry stores.
