August 23-30, 2003 "Welcome Home Fellow Cruisers--Trip Report Completed"

Small world isn't it? Another cruiser from Staten Island!:Pinkbounc
Your kids will have plenty of hometown company, with my kids, Lucy's kids and our friends daughter.:earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: I am sure we will draw alot of attention;)

I can't wait for August.

We are in Bulls Head. Almost neighbors. Can't wait for the SPRING weather to get here. My kids go stir crazy in the house, not to mention I go crazy with them. This is our first cruise ever. We used our timeshare points to go this year. My kids are soooo excited. Nice to meet you.

Hey Verandah Man, Great family photo! How's everything?

Everything is going along just fine, sitting here waiting for the August cruise to roll around, we're down to 134 days + a few hours, won't be soon enough for me. We got our tropical shirts for the Tropical Night off of ebay over the weekend. I was able to talk my DD 12 into wearing a dress for the formal and semi-formal nights, my DD is not much into wearing dresses these days( it's been 2 years since she had a dress on), but I used a little "dad guilt" on her and it worked, oh, the shame of it!!!

We have started picking up a few other odds and ends for the trip. We got our "Safe Sea" lotion and "Bonine" tablets this week. My DW has a very weak stomach, this is our very first cruise ever, so we want to have all our bases covered. I'm hoping we all do well, so we can take more cruises. My father was in the Navy, and I have this longing to go to sea, of course, "Disney" style!!!

I think we will have a good time around the pool the night before the cruise, it will be so nice to meet some other DIS'ers before we board the ship.

Gotta go and check on some more messages, talk to you later,

Andy

O.K all you Staten Islander's and neighboring Jersey friends, what age groups will your kids be in the club? My dd is 9 but within a month of turning 10 and she wants to go into the 10-12 group. Is anybody else going to be in there with her? My other dd age 6 will be in the 5-7. My 9 year old wants to spend all day in the club although we will see how that goes.

Our DD 12 will be within one month of turning 13 while on the cruise, she is torn between to 10-12 age bracket, and the teen age "Common Grounds" bracket. She is more mature growing up around adults more than children, but at times, she tends to be childlike. She did find another 12 year old girl that will be on our cruise and started e-mailing her, but they haven't kept in close contact lately, so I don't know what is going to happen there. She is at that very difficult age trying where to fit in. We are leaving the choice up to her, we want her to feel comfortable on the cruise, without being pushy parents.

i have dd9(within a month or so of 10) and dd7. older dd does not know she has the option of going into the older group. we plan on putting her in the younger group and see how it goes. if it is too "baby" we will move her up. age 9 is SO HARD!! these days. they all want to be grown up- but they are still young. I see the difference with my girl scout troop. The 12 year olds (which is middle school) talk about boys  and very little else. the younger girls really don't care much.- the upshot of that long ramble is really that we will wait and see. It all depends on the kids.

I ahve a ds who will be 10 a few weeks shy of 11 and a dd who will be 9 on aug 18. my nephews wil be 9 and 5(on aug 23 is his birthday)and our friends dd will be 7. the rooms will be split but my son may go a step down to be with the others. I guess we will se which one he does when we get there. It is so exciting I just went to buy some clothes and got nothing for me, but some for my kids, isn't that always the case! Oh well talk to you all soon.

My DW just left a little bit ago to take DD to look for 2 dresses for the semi-formal and formal nights. My DD hasn't worn a dress in over two years. Just as I am typing this my cell phone rang, it was DD telling me she found one dress she liked, and a skirt and blouse outfit she liked, boy that was fast, they only left here 20 minutes ago. I thought it was going to be a lot harder than that.

dd6 has had her formal dress picked out for a while. she LOVES to dress up. dd9 is a little harder. She is more the sweats and t-shirt type. i still havent found a dress for me. the stores mostly have prom dresses- it;s been a while since prom season for me- or they are more bridesmaid like. ho hum:rolleyes:

We attended a formal Sweet 16 party last night which we all had to buy outfits for, so we have those for formal night, now we just need semi-formal outfits.
I am trying to put off shopping for clothes, or I will go stir crazy waiting for Aug 23, I need something to fill my time this summer, so shopping will be at the top of my list:)

We 8/23 cruisers have been quiet lately, so here's a bump up for anyone else who might be cruising then!

Thanks for the bump Mary!!! I just now finished watching a video that was sent to me from Jeanne434 of the May 3rd cruise. It was a copy of the Travel Channel Cruise Week, DCL episode from this past Tueday night. It just got me more excited for our August 23rd cruise. I tend to be an sentimental and emotional person, and when I saw the family entering the ship and being welcomed aboard, I started filling up. I was picturing my family walking on for the first time, I'm excited just trying to type this post. It will be nice to meet several of the DIS'ers Friday night at the Radisson around the pool, and more DIS'ers onboard the Magic. I know we will all have a MAGICal time!!! Looking forward to meeting you and your family!!!

Just a little over four months to go!!!

We will be going on the 8-23 cruise! me and my husband (34) and son (10). We will all be celebrating birthdays that week! so, it's going to be a very special time for us! i'd love to hear from anyone, and talk about all the fun we are going to have! i'm interested in finding out about the shore excursions too, since this is our first time at St. Maarten and St. Thomas.

i'd love to! thanks for replying so quickly! We are flying in the same day from DTW, so we are taking the transfer from the airport. So, we will meet you onboard the ship. Let me know the details! :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

I have been so excited to go on this vacation... my husband has a more delayed reaction, he'll get excited when we board the plane. :D

We look forward to meeting you on the MAGIC then. Keep an eye on this thread for more details about the DISmeet. Looks like we will be meeting after the life jacket drill on deck 9 behind Topsiders for a few minutes, then we can all join the sailaway party and have a BLAST!!!

Hi Lisa, my son will be 9 and my nephew will be 10 for this cruise! What kinds of interests does your son have? If he likes Yu-Gi-Oh and video games then they will hit it off right away.

What birthdays do you have? We have my DS, turning 5 on 8-23 and my niece turns 9 right before the cruise on 8-18.

I can't wait....is it too early to pack? ;)

Hey Mary!

yes, kyle likes yu-gi oh- digimon, pokemon, transformers (he's wild about them right now), ninga turtles... you name it, he loves iit! We taped the Travel Channel Special about the cruise, and kyle asks to watch it again and again. he's very excited, and really would like to know he's going to have some friends already before we get there.

My husband's birthday is 8/25, mine is 8/26, and kyle's is 8/28. So, it's going to be a big birthday celebration, 3 out of the 7 nights!

i'm looking forward to meeting you and your family. We have a verandah room on deck 7, #7122.

Lisa:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy:

Is anyone planning to book the shore excursions pre-sail? I don't know if the popular ones tend to book up early, or if we'd be better off setting off on our own?? Maybe we can plan to all go on the same ones?

Has this been bought up already? I didn't see anything previously on the postings.

Let me know your thoughts!
