august 2013 codes for rental cars?

Thanks all -- I just used the Costco code to bring our SUV rental with Alamo down to $335 for the week. This beats the Annual Pass code I had been using.

We had originally booked a standard, but realized that the Corolla on offer wouldn't be able to handle the Costco grocery run we have to make for 11 people, LOL!

Since we leave in less than two weeks, what do you think the odds are of seeing any further declines in price?

People occassionally see drops right up to the day they leave, so I'd keep checking. However, I've been watching for a while (Aug 31/Sept 14, Alamo) and got about the same price. I have $683.38 for 2 weeks + 2 hours. So, I think your price is pretty good with Alamo.

Does being an Alamo insider guarantee that you get the lowest rate? The visa code and the southwest code give me the same rate. Just wondering if it's worth trying the costco code and the AP code.

I'd go ahead and try them, but I have issues with the site not clearing the code and having to clear cookies afterwards. ugh.

Is anyone else using the National Code: XZ53043? Anyone had any problems with it?

This code, but I wouldn't use it....

It only gives you 3000 miles included... while most people wouldn't use that amount, you never know...

The rate wasn't that great for a minivan (which we need).... the rate with this code is actually more than other codes that are out there.

I don't think I would need more than the 2800 miles. Just back and forth between our house and the parks.

I too am looking for a minivan for this coming week and this code is the lowest by far I've found.

Could you share if you have something better please? I'd appreciate it!

I have a full size on hold with Dollar from Aug 19-30 for $233.50 using the CAA discount. It's the cheapest I've seen so far.

You can use the Visa discount and/or coupon and pay with a MasterCard or Amex??

That is correct from what I understand. But we all know that sometimes we get different information from different customer service reps, so here's to hoping. I would call again before the travel date just to make sure that this information is consistent across the board with Alamo.

I am curous as well..i can find the car on costco travel but nowhere to put a coupon. Is there a code for costco? (I am a member)

Costco.com will default to the best coupon for you, that is affiliated with them.

Or you can go directly to the company you want and use the Costco car rental ID # and add a different coupon like from Entertainment book, etc.

Got my rental down again today. Tampa 8/15 to 8/24. Best rate now is with Budget for 240 for a fullsize (Costo code & coupon). I am still holding an Alamo for 278 as well for fullsize (southwest code with visa). Hoping Alamo drops more.

nope.
It clearly states you must use the visa card with the discount or coupon.

Visa

As a Visa cardholder, you get year-round discounts of up to 20% and receive $15 off when reserving any size vehicle minivan or SUV in the United States, Latin America and Caribbean when you pay with your Visa® card. Now at select U.S. locations.

I'm really really pleased with my eight day rental from Dollar that I picked up at the Wyndham in Lake Buena Vista earlier today. My rate for a mid-size dropped a few days ago about $9, down to $228, and I'm returning to the airport. And my Dodge Avenger got upgraded to a Chevy Equinox (the only car they had left - lol.) Sweet deal :)

That's what I had always thought (and what would make logical sense to me). Yet, for a moment, I was soooo hopeful, as I really, really, REALLY want to be able to pay with my MasterCard (Visa hits me with a 2.5% conversion fee on top of the current exchange rate. MasterCard is more kind and applies only the exchange). The Visa coupon w/the Insiders discount is giving me the best rate so far. I will have to keep checking to see if I can find something else close.

We bit the bullet and secured a full size SUV yesterday for $319 with Alamo. We're just not sure we want any kind of worries with the KLM Flying Blue discount with National. Yet oh, it hurts to pay over $300 for the week for the vehicle we want :rolleyes2 . We could have done slightly better with Budget with their airmiles code and $35 off paperless coupon, but after a dreadful Budget experience in December, we are once bitten twice shy.

Okay, whining over. :rotfl:

Right now I am holding on to 2 dollar rentals picking up and returning at Sanford. Dates are 8/30-9/7. I have a full size- all in for $225.73 -supposed to be Nissan Altima or similar. Or I have a Midsize-dodge avenger or similar- all in for 209.50.

As far as pricing, what do you guys think of those two? In jan. we got a standard with Alamo and they put us in a Chrysler 200 and my husband HATED it.

Still hoping prices will drop down some. Between the two vehicles-is the full size worth almost $20 more?
