august 2013 codes for rental cars?

My Alamo just dropped $3 this morning. ...

I'm seeing the same thing. My Alamo dropped $5 this morning to $189/std for Aug 4-11. (Costco + upgrade) Not great...still about $45 over Dollar, but its a possible backup.

The kind of significant thing here is that I'm just 2 days away from pickup. Not that I'll use Alamo (although I'd like to), but it just proves the point that you need to keep looking right up until you leave. I'll be keeping an eye out today in case there's additional activity...

I love this thread! I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my free time once my vacation is over this month.

I have a full size reserved through Dollar (Nissan Altima-esque car) for $138. Alamo has dropped a it for me and I can get a full size (Dodge Charger-esque car) for $188. I'm leaning toward switching to Alamo for the free additional driver since we're driving from MCO to Vero Beach, then to WDW, and DH might not want to do all of the driving.

Does anyone know how roomy the back seats of these cars are or if one is roomier than the other? We have 3 kids (one in a booster seat) and we want to make sure they're not too squished in the back seat for the 2 hr drive to Vero.

Thanks!

Altima back seat size isn't bad; can't speak to the Charger. The problem is, as you've already pointed out, there's no way of knowing what you'll "really" get. Alamo makes it the easiest since you can just go down the row and pick...

Replying to my own post...I've knocked it back another $15 or so ($174) by using a different coupon. Finally found a "free day on a week" with Alamo that works and seems legit. The code is AF4469SDU and seems to be affiliated with rooms.com, but I see nothing that says you need to book a room with them. So the difference between Alamo and Dollar is down to about $30...that may just be worth the switch.

Edited again (sorry)...Knocked it back yet again to $164 (total) by using Costco discount + United Airlines $30 off/week (AD2492ACX). Shows up on Alamo site as United MileagePlus, so I'll be sure to bring along my United card...

Hello Alamo, goodbye Dollar.

Those are just guidelines. I hardly ever see the cars they list on their website as an available choice. Alamo is nice because you can pick anything in the row and they can vary greatly in each class so you should be able to find something that works for you. And you may get lucky and snag a minivan or suv, if it is parked in your row you can take it. Check the midsize row too....we've already rented a full size and found a ford explorer in the midsize row and took that instead. The attendants in the garage with Alamo are very helpful too!

Hello Alamo, goodbye Dollar.

Not going until nov but where do you find the Costco coupon code ?

I am curous as well..i can find the car on costco travel but nowhere to put a coupon. Is there a code for costco? (I am a member)

The Costco discounts are available by using the Rental Car Finder on costcotravel.com. If you use Alamo's site, the contract ID for Costco is 7014627. To get individual Costco coupon codes, you can get the details on the Costco site mentioned above. The only one I remember off the top of my head is AU2291VYT for a single upgrade.

On a side note (kind of), as I mentioned earlier, I booked Alamo at $163 total, and have a confirmation email and printout confirming that. If I go back and look at the reservation at alamo.com, it shows as $178. What's up with that? (No, I didn't change anything) Have any of you seen that kind of behavior?

We used Alamo for the first time in January 2012. We had a compact reserved for about $79 total (yep, for the week, including taxes....those were the days....).

When we got to the counter, the desk clerk looked at our printed reservation (which I had handed her) and after plugging some stuff into the computer, she said "I don't know how you got that rate :confused3" and we thought, dang it all, it WAS too good to be true :sad2: . So I asked her what rate SHE was getting, and she says.....$65 :scared1: :yay: .

I have no idea why my print-out and their records with the rate code and coupon weren't the same. I found it very odd as well!

Thanks to both of you. I'd forgotten that Dollar assigns you a car whereas Alamo lets you pick. I think Alamo may be best for us in this situation so that we can find the car with the best back seat space for the kids. I certainly don't want to listen to, "She's touching me!" and, "He's squishing me!" for the 2 hr drive! :scared1:

If this happens, do they honor the lowest rate? I printed my reservation page the moment I made it.

Thank you so much for this tip! I will start tracking this coupon also. :cheer2:

Thank you very much!! When I try to use that contract I'd on the Alamo site 7014627. It says its not valid. Does it change?

Rates have dropped for me and right now I have 2 ressies both for full size cars and both the same price 180. One is with dollar and the other is enterprise. Any thoughts one which is should keep?

I am pretty sure if it is the base rate or any of their add ons then they will honor the confirmation amount.

If it is a tax or aiport fee, they can change all the time since you can make reservations over a year out so those I doubt you will have much luck with. That happened to us, we had a reservation and then they added some $2/day airport fee or something like that and the amount we were charged was exactly that difference.

I just went to the costco site and they are showing that number as the code maybe could you have keyed it in incorrectly. If you go to costco travel and fill out your info dates etc. they give you quotes you will see terms and conditions in that popup window it shows you the codes costco used to get this price. You can then go to any of the car rental sites and use these same codes if you wish to rent from then and not through costco You will get the same or close to the same price. You can go to the details of all the car rental companys and click on terms and conditions and get the costco id for all the companys

No, that's the correct code and its been a valid Costco code for several years. Only thing I can think of is the Alamo site gets itself very confused sometimes...pretty serious bugs in there. If you try a contract Id, a coupon and Insiders all at the same time, it gets really confused and it can be hard to fix.

They better! I have printouts and the confirmation email will be on my phone as well. I'll be using the kiosk...if the contract prints out with the higher price, I'll talk to someone out in the garage and see if they can fix it (or maybe the desk in the terminal if no one is there (yeah, right!)). If that doesn't work, I'll try again when I return the car.

Apparently the (Alamo) agent that checks you back in when you return the car has some power. One time when he asked how the car was, I mentioned I had to put air in a tire a couple times. I just mentioned it so they'd take a look at it, but he gave me a $50 credit on my rental on the spot.

I made this reservation. back in February and I the code X474200 and a second code for $40 or MUGZ044. According to the board this code has been sold out pretty big but you should give it a try. My total is $255.98.

Sorry this is for budget. The Alamo one I used the vroom vroom code which I have read may be questionable. It is the same price.

Thats the same codes I used, and I think we booked about the same time (it might have been slightly earlier) and I've got a rate at Budget for $606 for a minivan. I never tried the Varoom code until much later, and then they were higher than what we already had with Budget.

I wonder if it has to do anything with you arriving on a Monday, and departing on a Tuesday, whereas we are arriving on a Tuesday and departing on a Wednesday. Heck, I've seen prices higher and lower depending on what time of day your going to pickup/drop off.

We are both going for the same amount of days, so that can't be it so it's gotta be the day of the week that is making the cost difference. Or you just hit it lucky with when you booked the reservation..... either way, I wish we could have gotten that sort of rate. But looking at what we have the reservation for, and what they are charging now.... I'll stick with what we have!
