August 2008

We will be driving from Pennsylvania to Disney on August 22 and staying until the 30th. I can't wait! We will be staying offsite, but hopefully will get to meet some of the wonderful people that come on these boards. This will be our first time going in August and I am hoping it won't be extremely hot. My DH says I had to pick the worst month! We normally go in April, but DS didn't want to be taken out of school. That's a first! See everyone in August!!

Hey snowman...our trip sounds very similar to yours!

We're driving from S. Jersey (just east of Philly) on 8/20, spending 2 nights in St. Augustine, then checking in to Pop Century on 8/22 - 8/30. I'm trying not to wish my summer away but I really can't wait!

See you there!:woohoo:

We're there for 1 night at AKL savannah view, then to the BC from the 2nd to the 11th, 9 day park hoppers, DDP and Waterpark and more option. THis is my second trip to WDW, it's me, my DD's 12 (twins) and my best friend and her DS, 10. I can't wait!!!!

:cheer2:

Sorry to go a little off topic here...but We are going down to WDW august 12-21 and we are also in PA and I have to ask, It is an easy drive? Cheaper than flying? Do have kids with you? I am just wondering, because our nephew(who is 26) is going with us this time and he is not so big on flying and asked about driving, to I replied "are you nuts":rotfl: but I have often seen post from pa'ers that drive down! So can anybody fill me in a little on it. thanks and sorry about the thread hi-jack:flower3:

We like driving. There are 4 of us so airfare gets expensive. Gas is also expensive but there are calculators online to help figure out how much it will be. If you stop for the night, you have to figure on the cost of a motel/hotel and also figure wear and tear on your car.

Considering all that, we think we save money. In addition to the convenience of having our own car, we have plenty of room to pack so we take a cooler with breakfast stuff, drinks and snacks. My dh hates flying but lots of people can't imagine being stuck in a car for that long so it's really personal preference.

You really need to determine if you want to drive...looking up Maps.Googles.com it shows that PA to Orlando, FL is around 1,100 miles and 17 Hours of driving.

Questions to ask yourself
Are you willing to drive that far?
Do you enjoy driving?
Will more than one person drive?
Will you sleep over? You could do this in one day
What kind of car do you have?
- Is it comfortable?
- Is in in good condition?
- What kind of mileage does it get? 2,000 miles at $3.40 / gallon
  • - 20 MPG = $340 in gas:eek:
  • - 30 MPG = $227 in gas
  • - 15 MPG = $453 in gas:scared1:

These prices would probably make it worthwhile to drive...if you enjoy driving and the company you are in the car with is good in a car. This could be a great trip or it could be the worst trip ever.

One tip, if you do drive, try to plan your driving through area with traffic. Either leavew early or late...you don't want to spend 2 hours in rush hour traffic if you could leave ealry / late.
Good luck with your choice, Tim

Hello everyone on the August 2008! The last time we went we went in mid September. No wait lines for rides. We loved it! I just booked yesterday for Aug. 24-31 free dining!:cool1: How are the ride lines? Can anyone give me any detailed information. I am assuming it's not so busy seems they are trying to get more people.:confused3

We are staying in POP too! 24th-31st. We're from South Jersey and yes, we too are driving! We drove last year in June and we had a wonderful trip. We made it down in one day ( we still stayed overnight just outside of the Disney area, because we expected it would take 2 days) We have 3 kids and I really think that driving is the best way to go. Even with the gas prices and the hotels on the way, it is still cheaper. I like being able to stop when we need to and also being able to have the cooler, breakfast stuff etc. with us is a bonus.

August for us!!

Where about are you from in S.Jersey?

WOOOHOOO!!! :woohoo: :cheer2: Just booked August 6-12. :cool1: :yay: It will be our first time back since 2000 (when my DW was pg with my DD). I just cannot tell you how much I have missed WDW and how much I am looking forward to getting back there. :dance3: The best part is that the kids will not know until probably June or July at the earliest so I have a little secret.:rotfl2:

We had booked a trip for early in August but that's now changed. We're doing Free Dining at ASMu from August 24th-30th! 134 days and counting! :dance3:

I can't wait till we check in at AK for 2 nights and then transfer to OKW for 7 nights in a GV:banana:   I'm dancing for the next 110 days:banana:

August 6-12 at the French Quarter! Can't wait! Graduation trip for DD17. The kids have never been to this resort and are excited. DH and I honeymooned there~ I love being in the planning stages of a Disney trip! It's the next best thing to being there!:cloud9:

My family of five (Kids 14,12 and 7) will be making our first trip Aug 8-16. We will be staying at POR. A little worried about space but this seems to be the best value for a family of 5. We thought about staying at a suite at ASMu but this resort seems just so much nicer and cheaper than a suite. Wish us luck in surviving a small room. :scared1:

My DH and I will be celebrating our 18th anniversary  during our tip as well and my birthday which just happens to be on the same day.

My DS (12) and I are very excited. As a matter of fact I feel like this trip is all I can think about. :woohoo: I am having touble getting my DD (14) interested in the trip. She just learned she will be missing open house for her new school which isn't helping her attitude. :headache: My DH also has no interest in any of the planning. I know we are going to get there and he is going to question any schedule I came up with. I can hear it now "Why do we need to go on Dumbo first?" Any suggestions would be welcome.

I love reading all the posts and have bedome quite the addict!

I am going August 26th- September 4th on Free Dining at the Pop Century with my best friend and our mothers should be fun!!!
