August 17, 2010 - From Keys to shining Cay.

By the way...

It is freezing here on Long Island today. I just wish it would get out of the 40's!! I hear we are in for some colder weather too. :(

So you will have to carry your bags and check them in at the airport yourself? Disney will pick them up from the airport and transport them to the ship for you though, correct?

The reason why I am asking is my daughter is going to be flying in on Southwest for the cruise right before this one. I got her transfers through Disney.

I told her that her bags would probably get transported to the ship, but she will have to carry them back to the airport herself after the cruise.

Hope I was correct.

Dawn

I believe that Disney will transport them to the ship if they are marked correctly - I haven't done this in a long time, so I'm not sure. At the very least, she can pick up her bags and then take them down to the disney transportation area and put them on the bus with her.

Going back to the airport is the same, pick up bags, go through customs, put them on the bus she is traveling on.

Hi Dawn,

Ken is right, and as long as you have your Disney baggage claim tags on the handles of the luggage, Disney will collect them at MCO and transport to your room for you. It does not matter who you fly in on, the luggage and transfer process is the same for all airlines for arrivals.

Southwest is now one of the participating air carriers for Walt Disney World for departures check-in, and it is possible that it could become one for the Disney Cruise Line by the time we travel so you can have your boarding passes pre-printed. Just keep checking.

Is your daughter flying separate from you?

Thanks for the info. I always get quite confused, since Disney World has different participants from the cruise. I used to play it safe and stay at a Disney Resort, before and after the cruise, so I knew I was covered. lol

Yes, my oldest daughter will be meeting us on one of our cruises. She can only get a few days off from work, and the cheapest air was on Southwest from Long Island.

YAY! We booked our Palo reservations last night..stayed up until midnight and it was a breeze. We also booked our floats for CC and DH and one of our kids is going to do the wave runners for 2. So far I've got a manicure appt at the spa but I hope to take advantage of some of the specials they offer on the cruise. We've decided that we are going to try and spend a lot of time on the boat this trip so we aren't booking any excursions at this point. The only thing we might do is take the conch train tour on Key West. We will probably book that online directly with the tour company..I like the idea of being able to get on and off the train at different stops...that isn't an option if you book thru Disney.
What kind of plans does everyone else have so far?

Hi Kelly,

I am planning on Palo and the wave runners, but I am going to wait until I get onboard. I have been to Key West a few times with Disney and just walked up to the Conch train and got tickets right there along with quite a few coupons. You can get on and off as you please.

As you can tell, we are pretty laid back and aren't big planners, but always make sure we do things we like, and not being locked in.

My one big plan is to relax and enjoy the cruise! lol

Dawn-

That's basically our plan too. For Spring break we went to California and did a LOT..our first time there. DH and I want this vacation to be much more relaxing.

Sailing..so your signature has got me wondering...exactly what have you encountered while at sea to alter your trips?? Enquiring minds want to know. Please let your daughter know that my daughter says everyday.."I have to write back to Kelly"..but she's crazy busy right now with school..she will be in touch soon.

Have a great day everyone!
Kelly

Last time I logged in it was only on page 2 :surfweb:

Guess I need to check in more often. We're all getting very excited - been pouring over the excursions to see what we want to do.

Since I skipped to the last page, I'm really not sure what's been going on, but we would love to get in on the FEs. We're in cabin 6094 -its myself, DH, Kenny & DD, Kate (12).

DD is hoping to find someone to hang out with. She'll still be in the kids club since she won't be 13 until November. Any other girls going to be in the club?

Sorry, got waylaid by work and college move-home stuff, and musical stuff, and well... stuff. :D

DumboFan, there appear to be several that are 12/13/14 If your daughter is mature (close to birthday, doesn't mind an older crowd), and bonds with the other girls ahead of time, there is a possibility she could spend time in the Lab with the other kids. It's handled on a case-by-case basis and how busy the kids areas are.

DK, I see her response, will get my daughter to read it tomorrow after piano. She's off on a couple of trips for school. If I don't nail her down tomorrow, it won't happen for a while.

Remember when going to school meant... well... staying at a desk and studying? :-p

...as for my signature, they are all weather events causing really rough seas so that the ship can't tender right off or the docks can't be met, so they have to change up the itinerary a bit. Disney does their best to always meet their goal of Guest safety, as well as satisfaction. On our last cruise in December, they tried several times, at standard docking time, as well as at slack tides to attempt to pull up to the dock in Castaway Cay, but the swells were capping around 20 feet and splashing up over the sides of the docks. It was only a three night sailing so they couldn't change itineraries like they can do more easily on the 4-night and 5-night sailings like ours. The captain was *amazing* and kept trying so hard, but finally had to call it. I was glad when everyone around clapped for him.

My DD (10) will be in the club. She can't wait!

Are we too late to sign up for FE? If not it will be me Angela (GrumpyBelle), Al, Jason (15), and Leah (9)

I am trying to redo my reservation this week so I will provide a cabin as soon as I have something definite.

Don't forget, without a room number, no one will find you!

I booked the snorkeling excursion in Key West. I hope the kids go for it! We are also taking grandma, who is from Ks and has never snorkeled.

We have me, Dh, Ds 6, Dd who will be 5, and Ds who will be 5 at the time of the cruise. The kids snorkel in the pool, but I'm not sure what they will think about open water.

I got our Palo's reservations made, but ended up doing the High Tea and Brunch on the same day. (sea day) I hope we don't get too much of a good thing that day!

Keeping this secret thing from my DD is just about killing me. Just wondering when we want to put a cut off date for FE joining. Mine take a bit of time to make and just want to make sure someone doesn't join a few days out and I won't have one for them. Any suggestions...two weeks prior, longer than that?

Anyone worried about this oil spill and if it will effect the trip? I don't mean to sound insensitive because it makes me sick to see what it is doing to the plant and animal life down there....just thinking selfishly I guess.

We can cut off the list anytime the group wants. We just need some feedback.
