August 12, 2006-DIS DREAMS DO COME TRUE-Magical Western Cruise

Hello...TGIF. Only 1 more week of school for DS. Then just a couple of weeks until our stuff gets packed and we move! I went to Target yesterday and they have lots of different First aide kits in their "One Spot" section. Just right for travel size! Also several island theme bandanas. I couldn't pass it up! Hope everyone is off to a good start on their summer.-Donna :beach:

I couldn't stay away more than a couple of days. I'm back to reading trip reports and looking for pictures. We finally decided what we are doing for our two beach bum days in GC and Cozumel. We are going to chance it and book a day room at the Westin in GC and just hope nothing strange happens to keep us out of that port. For Coz, we are going to go to Paradise Beach for the day.

I read SO MANY great reports on it over on cruise critic (yes, that's where I've been) that I can't resist. All the pics show lots of umbrellas for shade for our little pale DD2 and a nice looking beach. People rave about the food and drinks and the prices are very good. I'll probably parasail at one place or the other and may take the snorkel sail that goes right from Paradise Beach in Coz. I know from experience that I can snorkel right from the beach in GC. In KW, we will probably just head into town for a bit - we've been there a few times (though that was b4 kids) and we will llikely go to the aquarium too. Last decision is what spa service to book when we go during our couple-time. See I'm back to being VERY excited.

One question: I can't get the website that tells you how many cruise ships are in port the days you are to work on my Mac. Not sure if it's a browser issue and it doesn't like Safari and Firefox or what. Has anyone looked up this info - how many ships in port in GC and Coz when we are there? If so, I'd appreciate your sharing it here.

Laura, TGIF stands for Thank God it's Friday! ;)

Wow, looks like Cozumel will be a busy port!

have a great weekend everyone! :teeth:

I too like to wear Disney clothes onboard. When we were in MD I found a skirt and a matching shirt for DH but they did not have DS size so I had planned to order it online. I never realized that what is in the Disney Store is not online so now I will have to try to find it at another one. Ds will not care so much, I just wanted it for a photo! Laura, your up coming trip to France sounds good. We were lucky enough to have been stationed in Spain for 3 years. We did visit Paris but did not explore much beyond the tourist spots. -Donna

Hi Everyone!!! I'm finally back. I actually got back last weekend, but this was the first time I have had a chance to get online. The trip went realy great and we had a fabulous time. We really got to see a lot of the country and it was beautiful. Now I have to get ready for our next trip. The girls and I are going to New York on June 18th with my mom, her sister, and my MIL. It's an all girl trip and should be a lot of fun. The girls and I are the only ones who have been to the city so it should be pretty interesting.

You might have to excuse some of the following posts, because I am going to go back through the thread and take care of some old busy.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

:welcome:First of all, before I get to all those old posts I want to say welcome to all the new cruisers. It's great having more people join us.:welcome:

Laura - please tell Marco the characters are: DH-Doc(it kinda of fits), Me - Tinker Bell, Britt - Tink also, Alyssa - Jasmine, and Alyssa's friend Madeline - Belle. I don't know if I have mentioned that we are taking Alyssa's friend with us. We took her to WDW over spring break and it was a blessing having someone along to keep Alyssa busy. So we decided to invite her along this summer.

Michelle - you have probably mentioned this before, but what is your DD going to school for? With all your talk of cadaver class, it brings back memories of DH going to med school.

I think its one or the other. With Pager you have to go and sign them out when paged or you sign something that says they can sign themselves out and you don't get a pager. I would trust DD but it will cause bickering if she can and he can't. Maybe I'll just say its one of the ship's rules due to age and he'll just let it go. (Doubtful)

Hi John - if you have your child signed up in the kid's clubs you will receive a pager, even if you let them have sign in and out privileges. If you give sign in and out privileges you can ask the staff to page you when your child signs out and let you know where they are going. Even though you might request this, a lot of this relies on your child. When they check out they need to tell the counselors to page you and let you know where they are going. We usually also set up a back-up plan. We make sure Alyssa knows how to get to the cabin form the lab and she has certain places she can go. When she checks out of the lab she has to go back to the cabin and leave us a note telling us where she is going. This will be Alyssa's 5th cruise so she is pretty familiar with the ship. Like most people will tell you, it is a personal choice to let them have sign-out privileges but you can also recind them if it is not going like you want or they are not meeting your requests. Hope all this is not too confusing. I have a tendency to ramble on.

We had some good news for Chuck... So this cruise means so much to us and we are so looking forward to it.
Michelle

Michelle - so glad to hear about Chuck. I know it is hard waiting from one doctor's appointment to another to see if things are going okay. Every trip I plan with my Mom is like that. We are good to go for New York, but her next appointment is in July. So, we are keeping our fingers crossed and saying our prayers that the cancer will not return and mess up her cruise in August. We will continue to pray that Chuck stays on the mend and can enjoy this cruise.

Laura, The 3 favorite characters are Mickey, Minnie, and King Triton. Thanks for all of the info on the hotels. It looks we will probably be staying at the Radisson at the port.
So far that seems to work the best. Our flight arrives at 10:05 Fri morning. Hopefully my DS will stay healthy during this cruise, 10 days ago he had his appendix removed and he was sick again today and I took him to his Dr. and now he has strep throat!!
Hopefully he will be on the mend now. -Donna

Tia/Donna - sure hope DS is feeling better. It's a busy time for you, and I know what you are going through. DH spent 10 years in the Navy and we moved about every 2 years(sometimes less time than that). So I know all the problems with the move and trying to rent a house, and it's not fun. Hope everything goes good and I know you will be looking forward to this cruise.

Has anyone used the concierge on the 8th deck. They said we could make reservations thru them when we get on board. Does that mean they can get you into stuff thats full on line and we should wait till then or do they just reserve for you anything thats left over from booking on line? Anybody know because we haven't booked anything yet and getting all 4 to agree is going to take awhile. :confused3 :grouphug:

Thanks if anyone has any info on this :thumbsup2

Hi again John - I take it you are in a Cat 3. We are in 8532. The booking online system is new to me but from what I understand they do hold back some of the Palo times, spa times, and excursions for the concierge guests. In the past - once you boarded you had a meet and greet(usually in Sessions) with the concierge staff and that was when you scheduled all of your times, signed your kids up for the clubs and also scheduled things like Tea with Wendy and hairbraiding appointments. From the people I have talked with you still meet with the concierge staff and go over everything you already have booked and then look at anything else you need to book. The only drawback is they may not have the exact time you are looking for.

We have a suite, but my parents and in-laws do not, so I had to make our reservations on different days and I could not get the same times for Palo. I was told to go ahead and make a reservation and then talk to the concierge staff when we get on board to help straighten everything out.

If you have the concierge service they will also check on you every afteroon, bring little snacks every afternoon, and will sometimes bring things for your children. They are also a great help if you should need anything.

Guess I am the only one on this morning. I need to go read the other threads so I will check back in later today or tomorrow. Have a good one!

For posting the ships in port the days we are. Geez Cozumel is going to be BUSY That day. And since we are not among the first in port, I guess getting to places like Paradise Beach early enough to beat the crowds isn't going to happen! Bummer. :sad2:

Travel Agent told us yesterday she received word that we will be in COZ from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Now we CAN get to PB early! But isn't that an awfully early departure time from Cozumel?

Thanks,Tia-donna !!!

As LeiLani wrote ... we too try and take Mom and Dad to visit some "places" as long as they CAN afford to travel and be away from home-doctors !! It is sort of a "challenge" for us and them...so this French short vacation means SO MUCH to them ... and us !!

We plan to visit Montecarlo (The Prince palace) and take a tour by helicopter over all the French riviera - up to Cannes (Festival !!).
Mom also wants to visit Molinard - where they do "classes" to teach you :lovestruc HOW TO CREATE your OWN fragrance !!! :Pinkbounc This will be fun !!!
I still have A VERY BUSY WEEK AT WORK ... than our Summer will start !!!
:artist: Have to "refresh" my French !!!
