~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

I really did mean to show you this picture but forgot to upload it.

It was a commercial pattern. The strap also goes around the waist so it was very secure even on rides. The problem with it was that it just was not large enough and I didn't have any place to carry a water bottle. I'm making a different type of bag for this trip.

I did get complements on it and someone actually asked if she could take a picture of it.

Love the picture of MM!! His expression is saying to me "But Mom, Dad let me up here!!!" lol

Great job on all that you got done!!

So, yesterday morning - this is the scene I walked into when I came down for breakfast

Well....maybe Josh was asleep when MM got up there.....maybe MM tiptoed very carefully so he didn't wake josh up....maybe MM sprouted wings and gently landed down on top of him. You never know :confused3

So, yesterday morning - this is the scene I walked into when I came down for breakfast - the reason this is sooo funny, is because Josh CONSTANTLY yells at the girls and I for babying MM and cuddling him on the furniture - he is not supposed to be on the furniture at all...

LOL... Now I have photo evidence. :thumbsup2
:rotfl: DH is the same with Buffy. I've caught her laying on the couch in the basement with him many, many times. I also found her asleep in bed with him one night. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture as she got down before I could get the camera.

This afternoon, Josh and I have an appointment at Home Depot for our cabinets... I've never done this before - but I am so curious about what she comes up with - and most importantly, the price. I have a $ in mind that we've committed to stay under, so hopefully she can come in under our budget. Otherwise... Well... You know - I am a take it or leave it type person, and I have no qualms about leaving it, if it doesn't fit into my budget.
We have a friend who is a contractor and he swears by IKEA kitchen cabinets. He puts them in all the high end homes they renovate. Don't know if you have one near you, but might be worth checking out too.

Well....maybe Josh was asleep when MM got up there.....maybe MM tiptoed very carefully so he didn't wake josh up....maybe MM sprouted wings and gently landed down on top of him. You never know :confused3
Okay, this made me crack up! :rotfl:

Omg Ruthie! You crack me up too! :rotfl2:

This made me LOL! I know even trying to be gentle there is no way you don't feel a dog that size getting on you...he is too cute laying with his daddy though!

Aww, I love Marie. What a darling bag!

I love reading about your couponing conquests. They're so impressive. I'm going to be a SAHM whenever our little guy gets here so I am hoping to become motivated to coupon again.

YES comic relief is needed always!!! when your good your good!!! :rotfl2:
MM is just adorable!!! No one and i do mean NO one can say no to that sweet puppy!!! :dogdance:

LOVE the planner!!!!

Sci-fi is my fav restaurant so far in HS.

Thanks Mo! I love making my planners... I think I have it down to a science now.

We have yet to make it to Sci-Fi... So we are looking forward to eating there for the first time.

I have D-cided that it is my job here to provide MO-re comic relief

Life is so hard sometimes and I can't really share much in the family aspects and the planning of creative projects (handmade or building projects) but if I can pop in here and make someone smile every now and then I feel I have taken your minds off of tough things for awhile then thats a good thing

so if I find an open door about dogs or characters well I will squeeze through it and run with it Glad you like the pictures and the MM story of the pants

Glad I can sometimes make you laugh

Daisy's Reaction when I said " I Love you but are you aware that Fortune Telling is illegal in the State of Florida ? I think I saw the Sheriff's car outside"

Thanks Ruthie... I love that you make everyone smile.

OMG - I bet Daisy was not happy with you!

Great picture of MM and Josh

How great that you got a lot done in your sewing room
I hope you get the price you are looking for at Home Depot. Good luck

Thanks! I am so happy to be caught up again in my sewing room.

D~ too funny about Josh & MM on the sofa....snuggling. My dh is the same way, always telling us girls we spoil Dizzy. Reminding us he is a dog, not a baby. But you should see DH face light up when Dizzy jumps on his lap to sit & watch tv with him.

Awww... You just reminded me - I had a small cat in high school named Dizzy. I had rescued her from an animal shelter - her previous owners had cut her whiskers off. The was the sweetest little cat - and once her whiskers grew back - she was fine.

I love the mini's. We may actually be in DHS the same day & time. Before we leave we should exchange cell phone #'s. Maybe we can grab a snack together, or atleast meet each other in person.

For sure!!! We must exchange #s... I've added the possible Dismeet to my planning page for that day... If there are any of our other days that overlap - please let me know.

Good luck at Home Depot.

Ruthie, I love Daisy Duck reaction to the sheriff!

I know... I am beginning to think that Ruthie is a bit of a prankster. :rolleyes1

I think this is another aspect of being a "Ruth(ie)" I'm the one who provides the lighter side of hard times for the family usually & most of the Ruths I've met (present company included, I suspect) usually get this little glint in their eye when they make someone laugh.

That is a very interesting perspective. I can't say that I know any Ruths (or Ruthies) IRL - even though I think it's a fairly common name? I am just happy that you all are here.

D~ That picture is so adorable. There's just something about a dog and his boy. One of the major reasons we have T is that he was a puppy of one of my in-law's dogs and my FIL had him chained up (long chain, but still...) and he'd cower away from everybody. Except DH . So when DH seriously started talking about having him at our house, how could I deny either of them. It took T some time to warm up to me, but now I'm part of the pack, but DH is still his boy. When he comes home T will literally push me out of the way to get outside to greet him.

Awww... That is such a sad story with a very happy ending. Our Rufus was that way - we adopted him from our old neighbors back home - and don't get me wrong, they were very nice to him, but he was kenneled 24/7... Once he moved in with us - and especially once Josh was in Iraq (and he really moved in with us)... I think he was just so thankful to have a family? He was just the best dog ever...

Here is a picture of my stove. The microwave above is separate. The griddle portion in the middle is interchangeable with a rack. We use the griddle alot, and as I said before we use the top oven more than the bottom, but it really comes in handy when we have multiple cooks or multiple dishes. The bottom oven is also a convection oven.

phone011_zps5c062b31.jpg

I just realized the old microwave was still on the counter when I took this picture! We no longer have it since it did not work very well.

That looks like a very nice oven. Yah - I am not sure about that bottom door... it does seem like it would be a little awkward when it's open?

I have just a regular stove, but I have several burners on top... Not sure how well this photo shows it... but it's a 4 burner, the front right burner is several different sizes, and I use that burner for everything. The burners to the left can connect to make a griddle - but I have never used it that way, because we have an electric griddle. :confused3 But I do LOVE my oven. And now you all know what my crappy kitchen looks like.

I think that is a really cool bag... and you executed it Disney style perfectly! I am not sure that (personally) I would love the waist strap, but I do like the cross-body portion. I would love to see your next one when you add the water bottle feature too.

Love the picture of MM!! His expression is saying to me "But Mom, Dad let me up here!!!" lol

Great job on all that you got done!!

Exactly... LOL - he is such a naughty boy. Only kidding - of course... but he is just like a little kid, once you let him get away with it, it's now allowed all the time. :confused3

Well....maybe Josh was asleep when MM got up there.....maybe MM tiptoed very carefully so he didn't wake josh up....maybe MM sprouted wings and gently landed down on top of him. You never know

Lol - nice try... Not falling for it... :rotfl:

DH is the same with Buffy. I've caught her laying on the couch in the basement with him many, many times. I also found her asleep in bed with him one night. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture as she got down before I could get the camera.

Awww... See - our DHs are all softies at heart. MM does try to crawl into bed with us every night, but he hasn't figured out how to jump up there, so he will put the front half of his body up on our bed - then just stare at us until we help him up there. Josh keeps trying to teach him how to jump up, but he just doesn't :confused3 Once he does come up, he'll lay there and cuddle - but then he gets really hot, so he will sit straight up and we have to kick him out. LOL

We have a friend who is a contractor and he swears by IKEA kitchen cabinets. He puts them in all the high end homes they renovate. Don't know if you have one near you, but might be worth checking out too.

Interesting about Ikea... We did look at their website - but they are just too modern looking for us. I wasn't able to find anything traditional on there at all. :confused3 BUt I will keep that in mind for other portions of our house, because we may need to add a few things in other areas, where I wouldn't mind more of a modern look.

This made me LOL! I know even trying to be gentle there is no way you don't feel a dog that size getting on you...he is too cute laying with his daddy though!

LOL - and MM isn't exactly the graceful type either... He always reminds me of the guys from the 80's big hair bands, the way he runs around with all of his hair flying to and from... LOL

Aww, I love Marie. What a darling bag!

I love reading about your couponing conquests. They're so impressive. I'm going to be a SAHM whenever our little guy gets here so I am hoping to become motivated to coupon again.

Hi Ashley!!! How are you feeling? I was hoping when I saw your post that you'd be telling me that the little guy had arrived... Not long left now though.

I do love couponing - but I cannot believe how much work it is... But it's so fun getting the deals!

**********************************************************

I spent the morning in my sewing room... I was able to get a lot accomplished. I hope to finish this bag tomorrow - there weren't any accessories ordered with it, so once it's done I can start working on my monthly auction bag - which is a week from tomorrow...

Josh decided to go with me to Home Depot... It was so much fun! I loved designing our kitchen! We were there for 1.5 hours, and we were able to get most of our kitchen done. I love, love, love crown molding... However, because of our ultra short ceilings, we just cannot fit any crown molding up there. But there is a possibility that when we gut the kitchen, we will find more space, because there are soooo many layers of sheetrock and plaster through out our house - we suspect that we will gain several inches in each direction.

We've also - for the time being - decided to keep our current stove. Even though we would love double ovens and a cook top, aside from the additional expense of it - logistically, it would be difficult to fit both of them into our kitchen with out losing a lot of our counter space. And I would like to keep the pantries next to the fridge.

I am so sorry for boring you all these last few days with our remodeling stuff... I know it has nothing to do with Disney or my sewing - but in the evenings, it's what Josh and I have been trying to work on.

So, anyways... Yesterday with the kitchen designer was fun... We did pick out the cupboards we liked, but I am a bit disappointed in the color, because it is much lighter than I would have liked. However, in the pictures she printed for me, it appears to be dark - but the colors are totally off, and no where near what I would like in there. The counter tops in these drawings are not even close to what I'd like...

But this is what we accomplished yesterday... This is the front wall of our house - where all of our existing kitchen cabinetry is right now.

20130410_062452.jpg

There are several features of this that I am really excited about. First off is the 2 pantry cabinets... It will be sooo amazing to have this storage! The fridge will be a new appliance purchase. Our current fridge will move to the garage, and our current basement fridge will be recycled - unless anyone wants a yellow fridge that works perfectly? Then, next to the pantries is going to be a "coffee bar"... I decided to do this here, because this is where our kitchen sink is currently - we want to keep that window and the area is fully plumbed, so the cost of doing this (other than the cabinets/counter top) is very minimal - and it keeps the coffee stuff off my regular counter top. Then, finally will be a built in China cabinet... We are still really undecided about the wine rack and the open space at the bottom... We would rather have the lattice type wine rack - but it won't fit into the space... So we may end up putting a second X shaped wine rack in there - even though we don't have that much wine, because we don't really like that little open spot - I can see it filling up with all sorts of stuff.

OK - now on to the existing bathrooom space - directly across from the above photo...

20130410_062436.jpg

Nothing really exciting about this area, I think it's all pretty self explanitory... A few cool features... I will have a pull out trash bin next to the sink. And I will have the book case at the end of the bar for my cook books. Otherwise - it's a pretty boring kitchen. :rolleyes1 The only real big difference here will be that the counter tops will extend over the edge of the base cabinets, so that we can actually use that space for sitting.

Then, yesterday morning - while I was working upstairs, Josh started working on the concept drawings of what the exterior of the house would look like. I wasn't sure about the HUGE roof over the whole space (I have issues with things being centered) - so I asked him to create a second drawing with just the peak over the garage area... I can't decide which one I like better. Obviously - these are not perfect, but they definately get the general idea across. Clearly - the addition will not be anything spectacular - it's just a plain addition to extend our living space...

Anyways - I would love some feedback on the two different roof peaks over the garage, which you prefer and why. :thumbsup2 If you have the time - of course, and you aren't so sick of giving me opinions in the first place. :rolleyes1

So, today, I have to work at Target... :rolleyes1 And I need to hang out in town for 2 hours after my shift for Alli to get done with practice... So, I am dragging my binder with me into town to see if there are any great coupon deals that I can't live with out. :rolleyes1

And - spring has sprung... We woke to a fresh 4" of snow this morning - our snow pack had been completely melted for over a week... :headache: Winter can go away any time now....

**********************************************************

A couple of updates for you all....

First of all - my Dad - I am still playing telephone tag with him... Our schedules are so opposite... I am going to try again tonight.

Alli's jacket... No news on that in months... Pretty sure it's gone for good. I am sure you all assumed that - but I just wanted to update just in case.

Alli's shins... They seem to be doing better. This last weekend of relaxing and icing them like crazy seemed to do wonders. She knows that she still needs to be careful though.

Ruth... Has anyone heard from her? It's been a few days, and I've been wondering how she is doing.

**********************************************************

I hope you all have a wonderful day today! And try to stay out of trouble will ya? :rolleyes1

D~

your kitchen cabinents look very similar to mine. We bought them at Home Depot with a Contractor discount. They are Kraftmaid and I love them. I have a built in china cabinent and I love it, it was my brothers idea and I almost said no but it was actually a good one.:rotfl2:

I like the bottom house picture, the top one looks off to me.

Have a great day, I have a day of running around today and it is going to be a long one.

BEAUTIFUL KITCHEN!!!! seriously it is so amazing!!!

I like the longer roof... just seems visually appealing/symmetrical.
plus you have to account for squirrels.. :squirrel: :rolleyes1

i REALLY love the new kitchen!!! :thumbsup2

Hard choice on the roof line  my first instinct was the first one. In the drawing it looks like the entire front is flat, but doesn't the addition project out in front of the older part?

I just looked closer and I see it does. Now I think I like the second one! I'm such a big help, haha!

Awww... See - our DHs are all softies at heart.
;) Yeah, although mine won't admit it!

I hear you. They have more of a modern, clean look. We want to redo our kitchen but haven't started to plan for it yet. :crazy2: I'm not sure if we will use IKEA cabinets as they don't really have the look I want either. I think we will do our bathroom first and we will likely use IKEA cabinets there.

I like the concept drawings of the kitchen. :thumbsup2 I especially like the pantry cabinet/coffee bar/built in china cabinet. If you want to get rid of the open space under there, what about replacing it with an upright wine rack on one side and glass fronted cabinets for the rest of the area? Or glass fronted cabinets on either side with the upright wine race in the middle?

One thing to think about is the microwave over the stove. I know many people have this type of setup and there is nothing wrong with it, especially if you are used to the microwave being above counter height. A former colleague, who is a health and safety professional, sent out some information a while ago on the increasing number of injuries coming into hospitals being attributed to this setup, mainly from burns and cuts while removing items from the microwave. The burns came from hot items in the microwave being spilled as well as from pots being inadvertantly knocked over while removing items in the microwave. The cuts were secondary injuries from cleaning up broken glass when the dish being removed fell and broke due to one of the reasons above. Just something to think about. :scratchin

Anyways - I would love some feedback on the two different roof peaks over the garage, which you prefer and why. :thumbsup2 If you have the time - of course, and you aren't so sick of giving me opinions in the first place. :rolleyes1
The second one appeals more to me as a designer. It is more balanced and in proportion with the rest of the house. In the first one, I do like that the peak of the garage matches with the peak of the existing house, but there is something about the peak of the kitchen being lower and that huge gable end that doesn't quite sit right visually. It looks like Josh is using a computer program to do the elevations. Does it also generate 3D pictures? You may want to see it in that perspective too as something else may jump out at you. If it doesn't, PM me and I'll see what I can come up with.

I wish you lived closer so I could borrow your husband. I washed all of my valences over the weekend and while hanging the one in my guest bedroom, the hardware pulled out of the wall. DH took one look at it, said I can't fix that and walked away. :confused3 So now I have a towel rack and valence hardware off the walls and no one to fix them. We are going to have our house painted this fall so maybe I can get them rehung then.

But any way, I love the design for your new kitchen. I would love to have all that counter space and cabinets!

And as for the roofs, I like the first one better. No real reason though, it is just more appealing to me than the smaller version.

A couple of things - I think I like the smaller peak over the garage. It just seems more in line with the rest of the house.

Also, I love having my microwave over the stove. I can see where it could be an issue with removing hot dishes, however, I've never had an issue with it. I am short too - only about 5 feet and was worried about it being too high, but it isn't. Also, I love the additional counter space where our old microwave was.

My suggestion for the wine rack would be to add another glass front cabinet where the wine rack is for additional storage and put the wine rack below it. I like the cabinet style and the type of door handles can really change the look. I switched out all of my door handles when we bought the new stove and it really did change the look of the kitchen. The cabinets are the original from when the house was built in the 80s, but there is nothing wrong with them, so I didn't want to switch them out.

I like the second roof option. I can't say why, it just looks a bit better in my opinion.

When we moved to our house, it has the microwave over the stove/oven. I have had no problem, but the two teens that can reach it (Chelsea is still upset that she can't pop her own popcorn anymore, because she can't reach) have had some issues. Jacob no longer will do anything with liquid in it (like soup) because he has burned himself twice by spilling it on him. Marissa keeps dropping the dishes. Teens just don't seem to remember to slow down and take care. At least mine don't. Jacob actually wants little to do with the microwave anymore. He is a bit traumatized over the whole thing and I don't like to let Marissa near it, because I fear for my dishes lives. But, we aren't going to change it and they will just have to learn to be more careful.

I like the second roof too. The other was too much siding/flat wall, in my opinion. I'll bet those two pantry cupboards will be full in no time!

Ruth is a perennial name, there's always some in each generation, but never up near the top of the list. Again, I think that's because some how, connecting "Ruth" to a little girl makes her stubborn/opinionated and something of a smarty-pants. Not that any of those present here are anything but sweet, demure, gentlewomen. :lmao:

I hope Ruth is okay too. That dizzy/falling thing has me concerned.

DH & his family are tinkerers - possibly genetically, as they are Irish/Latvian Gypsy lineage. His favorite fix-all is Lock-Tite. He's repaired everything from plumbing to his shoes with it. But he did draw the line at repairing our freon line to the AC with Lock-Tite last year when the valve went. Thank God. His dad & brothers are always putzing around with something & I have a set of solid heavy shelves that his dad made in my sewing room (on the messy side of the room, so no pictures.) They are also something of a gear-head family (FIL drove Dirt-Track when he was a teen) and I've declared one of my BILs a "Car Whisperer" because he can fix nearly any car.

It's funny you say your kitchen remodel started with needing the floor redone. I did the same thing with our last house. The floor needed done and I said, well, as long as we're going to do the floor, why don't we get new cabinets and as long as we're getting new cabinets, we'll probably need to get granite countertops, and while we're getting new granite, we'll need new backsplash, and of course new stainless steele appliances, a new sink, faucet, ceiling fan/light fixtures, paint, hardware. Oh, and since the floor goes from the kitchen to the garage door and past the powder room, we'd better do the powder room too. New cabinet, sink, vessel bowl, fancy faucet. We did keep the toilet, though=-) THEN the rest of the house looked so shabby, (not really shabby, but needing a spruce up) So all new doors, brand new windows throughout the house, new tile in the two upstairs bathrooms, granite for the upstairs bathrooms and paint in every. single. room! both up and down and in the finished basement. ALL BECAUSE MY FLOOR NEEDED REPLACED!! A year later we sold the house and my dream kitchen.:faint:

Yesterday DH was supposed to get a simple 1 hour surgery on his gums because he broke a tooth and the gums around it had to be removed to place a crown. Well, once they got in to the surgery they found the tooth could not be saved and had to extract it. 2 1/2 hours later, they were finally successful. The root of the tooth was imbedded into the bone and gave the doctor fits. All this to say, while he was in a great deal of pain, he thought of something he wanted me to tell you about your laundry room. He said make sure you either have them put a drain in the floor or a tray under the washer (they make them especially for that purpose) in case a water line problem comes up down the road it won't ruin your flooring in there. I'm sure your contractor knows this, but he thinks of these random things.

I have to say I like the first roof better. The second one just looks proportionately small to me. Of course, seeing in the the 3rd dimension would probably make a difference.

I forgot now who needed their towel rack and curtain rod put back up, but let me encourage you to do it yourself! It isn't that hard and it is very rewarding to accomplish something like that. Might even encourage your DH to try his hand at simple fixes around the house. DH says if it's just holes and the drywall is still intact, just go to Lowes or such and buy some toggle bolts. They will go into the hole and spring open to give you somewhere to attaché the screws for the curtain rod. You could ask someone at the store how they work. This is if there is nothing behind the hole such as a stud. If there's a stud, just purchase a wood screw that is long enough to bite into the wood. Same would go for the towel rack.

Just found out yesterday that my DD is having another girl. That will be 3 girls and 1 boy. They were kinda hoping for another boy just so Miles would have a fighting chance.:rotfl: But they're happy no matter what. She's due the middle of August.

D~ so glad you got so much accomplished after being such a lazy butt all weekend!:lmao: My goodness, you work so hard. If you take a weekend off, you shouldn't feel badly. Give yourself a break! And I love the pics of MM! What a character! Josh can't say much now, since you have proof.:rolleyes1

Hope you had fun at Target and didn't have to do end caps since you hate them so much. Hope all the people were nice to you and that all your snow melts. It's been high 60's for two days and I'm loving it!! Love wearing the sandals!:yay:

ETA: Sorry this is soooo long. It's been a few days since I've been on here.

Well I might be having him on Monday. :faint: I'm hoping to let him cook a bit longer, but my blood pressure has been really high. At least he will be full term. :)

Every time I think about selling I think about how nice it is to have my enlarged bathroom, extra living room & enlarged kitchen (all of which now need makeover) All of which we added when we bought the house from my folks. I don't want to start over again. (plus like it or not, I have an emotional tie to this old home)

Congratulations & good luck. You will be in my thoughts!

D~ I like the 2nd. I tend to gravitate toward what I call tiering roofs. I love the 2nd one actually, and if I ever have a house built for me this is what I would like. :)
I love your kitchen. So pretty. Look forward to seeing photos of the finished project, as I am certain you are anxious to be able to take them.:)
Hope your Target day was smooth.
Glad to hear Allies is recovering well.
