~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

The three Ruth's in a row, giving Allie hugs from 3 parts of the country!! Poor thing!

I have had a difficult week! I came home from the hospital with laryngitis, had a holter monitor on for 48 hours and now have an ear, sinus infection with a stomach bug and haven't kept anything down since Tuesday morning. If I can't keep fluids down by tonight , I have to go back to the ER. I had a antibiotic shot at the DR plus he was very concerned about dehydration .

Thinking of everyone tonight!

OMG Ruth I knew when I wasn't hearing from you it must be getting worse, I'm sorry thought I would wait before trying to call to let you rest PLEASE keep your spirits up prayers continue for you

Ruthie

That's pretty much what we'd like to do. I wish I had a picture of it, but I don't. We wanted glass doors on the sides and a lattice type wine rack in the center - more tall than wide. However, if we were to take the one available from that cabinet maker - it wouldn't fit into that spot. Which I don't get. :confused3 We really only wanted to nicely display about 10 bottles of wine. I have had another building supply center recommended to me - they are local (not a discount chain) and I am told, they have a very good reputation, along with competetive prices. So, I may be meeting with another kitchen designer in the near future.
I'd definitely get a second quote. If they don't have exactly what you want with a stock cabinet, a good cabinet maker should be able to build you a custom one and the designer should be able to account for the size of it in their design.

I agree, I am leaning towards that second one too. I know his angle on that first garage roof was a little off anyways, but I agree - I think the 2nd one looks better.

His program does not do anything in 3D, unfortunately. :( If you think you can generate a 3D image - I'd be happy to send you any information you might need. :thumbsup2
:thumbsup2 I'll send you a PM with information that I would need. You likely have it all already anyway.

Everyone is talking about babies above... And it makes me miss my little girls so much... They were so cute and so crazy back then...

th_AampVgreen.jpg
OMG! They are just too cute!

So, I guess the kids were jumping over mats, and she rolled her ankle. It seems she sprained her ankle in a bad way. We are taking her to the Dr. this morning, as it is still quite swollen, and she cannot put any weight on it at all. Aside from the pain, she is just very upset about it.
Poor Allie! I saw in your update later that it is a bad sprain. Make sure she takes it easy for the next few weeks and follows the doctor's orders. Those sprains can be difficult to heal, but hoping she has a quick recovery.

And to Ruth, Ruthie, Lois' DH and anyone else I may have missed - hoping you get lots of rest and wishing you quick recoveries. And hopefully that baby stays where it is supposed to until the right time MrsDrewsky.

Glad to hear that Alli's ankle is just a sprain and not broken. My oldest dd broke her ankle last August. It did not stop her from going to an Orioles baseball game though.

The Oriole Bird came by and had to autograph the ace bandage that was wrapped around the temporary cast. This was right before surgery. She ended up being in a hard cast for 6 weeks and and air cast for another 2. She's back to running and is training for a 1/2 marathon in October.

My second ex-husband (so embarrassing to say it that way!) was a general contractor, and he called this "While You're Here..." syndrome, which is very similar to "We Might As Well..." syndrome, and how he made a lot of his money.

Yup - I think i have that syndrom. LOL

Do you have to have a roof peak at all? I think I would prefer either none, or 2 "doghouse" dormers similar in style to what you have on the main house instead of either option shown here. Anything extra on the roof looks like a snow catcher to me, but what would I know . . . I don't think I've ever experienced more than 10" of snow at once in my lifetime, how would I know whether it's a problem accumulating on a roof or not?

I agree with you... Originally, my thought was to just have a plain roof there - but Josh designed it this way and I did think it made the house look a bit more interesting?

I was also worried about the run off from the garage roof - especially on the bigger one, where it comes almost to the house.

OH! I also wanted to say that the right contractor should be able to retrofit a smaller wine rack like you want into your china cabinet. Just because it's not stock doesn't mean it's not possible.

Oh - I totally agree, Josh could do it (he was a general contractor for 10 years, and his specialty was remodels) - but it's just not something he wants to tackle right now. We could actually do this entire remodel ourselves - but since it's our kitchen and bathroom, I just want to get it done, if we were to do it on our own - it would take months, maybe even years. :scared:

Thanks for the advice. I'm just about as hopeless as DH when it comes to repairs but the toggle bolts sound easy. I may have to give that a try. The thing was up with three screws and they pulled out of the wall. The bottom one did a small amount of damage to the drywall but I don't think enough to stop me from using the toggle bolts. I'm not worried about how it will look because the valance will hide it.

As for the towel rack, the problem there is that DH took it down when I was on vacation. The thing is in about 10 pieces and for the life of me I can't figure out how to put it back together in order to rehang it. I may eventually just buy a new one that has instructions. For now, I got an over the door towel rack.

I really hope you are able to figure this out Ariana... Maybe buying a new towel bar might be best. If you go to Home Depot - you can ask one of the guys there, they'd probably all be happy to give you a demonstration on how to do it. :thumbsup2

What a bummer about Ali's ankle! I hope everything goes well at the doctor's today and she is able to get back to participating in track soon.

As for the roof choices, I always seem to pick the opposite of everyone else.

Thanks for pointing out Lois' post, I did miss it. I may have to give fixing it a try. I'm not much better than DH with repairs but at least I don't do more damage than good like he does.

Thanks... She still isn't able to put any weight on it. I don't know how she is going to make it through school today - she zig zags around the building so much...

I hope you are able to fix it. :)

OH NO!!!! the poor kid!!! Give her a hug from the stranger in Chicago.. (Yeah i'm sure she'd appreciate it...) Seriously i hope she is good and back up in no time. she can still do the upper body work outs. don't lose that!
Keep me updated!!!!

Well, the Dr. took her off the upper body stuff for at least a week too... She still isn't able to put any weight on it at all yet, I just feel so badly for her! I passed along everyone's messages last night, and the wanted me to thank you. :thumbsup2

Allie just can't catch a break. (maybe not the best use of words) When my DD (who was completely NOT an athlete) started doing track, she got shin splints and was told by the coach that she needed to train her body all year long, even though track didn't start until spring because it leads to injuries if you just start when track season starts. I don't know how active Allie has been, but that could be contributing. I'm so sorry this has happened to her and I hope she recovers quickly. I will definitely pray for that and for her to feel better about her situation. I agree that she should still try to keep in shape with upper body and as you said, support her teammates. Poor thing!

I know! Poor kid... It seems like it's just one thing after another. I am certain that there is some of that contributing, as well... She was not very active before she started track, and she knows she isn't the most coordinated person in the world either - so all of that factored together makes it pretty rough. Thanks so much for the prayers Lois, and Alli thanks you too.

So sorry to hear about Alli's ankle. I will say some prayers for her.

Thanks T!

poor Alli I hope she gets well soon. She's in my thoughts

Thanks Lillian!

Thanks D and everyone for the well wishes. I will definitely post pictures.

I hope Alli feels better soon. Poor thing.

Thanks Ashley! We are all thinking of you too... It will be so wonderful!!!

Ah poor kid....I was just coming to update on me and read this Please give her a gentle hug from me too and of course she is added to my ever growing prayer list Tell her to hang in there things will get better ...focus on August and WDW

There has been LOTS of focusing on August - belive me.

Ok to keep you posted:

AMAZING therapist very kind, listens to me, told me what I can do at home to move this along, did simple stretching and some neuro-electrical stimulating thing to the muscle and I could feel things loosen ...I could have fallen asleep
most relaxed I felt since January
now of course a few hours later I am slightly sore; but not complaining will do this 2 times next week and maybe go to 3 xs week if we can coordinate the schedule This was the first appt and basically evaluating; not kidding myself I know it will get hard ...don't care sooner start sooner done

Walking/standing pains in right side leg still an issue hope to get P/T started for that later this month one thing at a time

As always THANK you ALL I feel your prayers in my life

I am sooooo happy to hear this news Ruthie!!! It's about time that you get someone who is listening to you and hearing what you have to say - after all, you know your body best. Many hugs and prayers that things continue to go smoothly! :grouphug:

Poor Alli... I have faith that come back strong and be able to continue in track and field, at least through HS.

Good luck with your sewing. I'm hoping to get to play with my new machine a little more (I did a little word embroidery with it after setting it up yesterday) if we have power. We're under a tornado watch until 7pm, but they originally said that it'd be in our neck of the woods at noon, so I'm not holding my breath one way or another.. I'm a little annoyed at the weather people right now.

Speaking of weather, Stay warm and safe in your ice storms.

Thanks Ruth!

Yay for your new machine... I hope there were no tornados for you - I hate storms and I don't do well in bad weather. I've been in 2 tornados in my life, and I never want to be in another one, that's for sure.

Poor Ali!! Glad it was just a sprain though and not a break!!

I agree - I was so worried that it was a break with how swollen it was and the fact that she couldn't put any weight on it the next day. So relieved that it was just a sprain - which we all know is very painful too.

The three Ruth's in a row, giving Allie hugs from 3 parts of the country!! Poor thing!

There's our other Ruth - we've been worried about you! Thanks for checking in! :grouphug:

The I have had a difficult week! I am so sorry... I just can't believe everything that you are going through. I pray that you are feeling better and can keep something down really soon. Please keep us updated if you can. :grouphug:

I'd definitely get a second quote. If they don't have exactly what you want with a stock cabinet, a good cabinet maker should be able to build you a custom one and the designer should be able to account for the size of it in their design.

That was my thought too. We are going to put sooo much $$ into this, I would hate to not have it the way I want it.

I'll send you a PM with information that I would need. You likely have it all already anyway.

Thanks Loree... I did have to work on some of it last night - we've never done the other wing of our house, because we really haven't had to do any work there. LOL

OMG! They are just too cute!

It seems like forever ago and it feels like yesterday.

Thank you... She is doing really well staying off of it.

I know it's not funny - but that is just so cute! I am so glad that her ankle healed and she is back to being active again.

Just a quick update this morning... I am off and running right away.

I managed to finish most of my next bag - I have a little bit of work to do on it this afternoon. Then I plan to start my auction bag this weekend. I am really excited about it!

I am dropping Alli off at school this morning, so she doesn't have to try to maneuver the bus - I may have to pick her up this afternoon too? I am not sure - she still isn't putting any weight on it at all.

Headed out to do my grocery shopping this morning... I have a huge list, and I hope I can stay with in budget.

Have a great day everyone!!! :grouphug:

D~

I forgot to comment on the girls picture from when they were little. (I was going to say vintage photo, but didn't want to offend them lol) They were so adorable and I love that they still have those dynamite smiles!

So glad Ruth checked in. Wow! Both she and RuthIE really do it up when they have things go wrong! So sorry to hear about all of Ruth's trials. Ruth #3: STAY HEALTHY!! Don't follow in their footsteps. Please! So glad PT is going to work for you RuthIE!!!

Yes, a sprain can be even worse than a break in some cases. They certainly cause a lot of pain as well as inconvenience! Hope she learns to maneuver quickly and gets lots of help at school.

Wow! You got a lot done in spite of everything else going on. I'm going to bed now since I've been up since midnight. I'll hopefully get 3 hours of sleep in, it's never more than that when Ive been up all night. Good luck with your shopping today.

I hope Alli's sprain heels quickly. I have had some sprains that were worse than breaks :(

Can't wait to see your new bag and hopefully you will save lots of money today.

I will try my darndest not to: I have never had to have any hospital time since I was taken home as a baby and hope to any. Unless by some insane miracle there's a baby involved.

No tornadoes in our part of the world, just a bunch of rain. I didn't play with my machine, though, because I was going to download some designs, but I have to work through some set-up issues :crazy2:

Hope your savings were enormous, Alli's day wasn't too bad, and DISbuddies got hydrated (Ruth) kept up the PT (RuthIE) didn't have a baby (Mrs. Drewski) Got some sleep (disneychic2) had a day free of tooth pain (Lois's DH) or just generally had a good day.

I am so glad you put this so conscisely. My phone and my memory make it hard to remember all I want to quote or say. So I will say ditto to all of these.

Exciting news for me today. June dessert party opened and I got a reservation for our last day in the parks. Of course this means lots of tears, it is emotional for me to have such fabulous memories from my happy place and know its coming to an end. So I'm very glad that wait is over. Now I need to get busy sewing. I am such a perfectionist, each outfit takes me sooo long, then I need a break before getting started again. And if I continue this trend I will run out of time. I still need to prioritize my list.

Oh and my nephews party was fun for my daughter. They bought a small bounce house and she loved it. The rest of the party was meh, as I was called a "momzilla" for correcting my daughter. She will be 3, is strong willed, smart, and learning how to talk nicely and handle disappointment from other kids. I was very upset when I heard this comment after we returned home.

Sorry to ramble.

Ooh yeah, and the pic of your daughters is sooooo adorable!!

I hope so too... She is in a lot of pain after school yesterday.

Me too, I hope to have it posted sometime today! :thumbsup2

I agree with all of the above! Maybe I should have you summarize and type all of my quotes every morning. ::yes::

So glad that you were able to get your dessert party reservations. I have not (yet) cried when leaving WDW... because I always know I'll be back sometime.

I agree with you - as it looks now, I am not going to have any time for making customs for us... :faint: At least not until I get all of these auction bags done... Knowing me, I'll be dragging my machines to the lake over 4th of July so I can work on our bags for the trip. I doubt that any of the girls will get any customs this time...

Momzilla... OUCH... Where in the world did she learn that word? When ever the girls would get mad at me and say something like that - it really hurt... But I can only honestly think of one or two times that's happened - and it's been so long ago now, I couldn't even tell you what it was that they called me...

**********************************************************

I am super glad that replies are really short this morning... I only have a little time.

First of all - Alli - yesterday at school was quite rough. I had dropped her off at the doors and told her to let me know around noon if she wanted me to come to town to get her... So, I got a text from her right before noon that she definitely wanted a ride. She was so sore when she got home that she ditched the crutches and now she is crawling everywhere. Poor kid. We made her sleep in her own bed last night, because she didn't sleep well on the couch the night before (MM thought is was a sleepover... :headache:). She still can't put any weight on it at all, and it's still swollen. She has ice packs on it constantly and unless she is moving around - it's always elevated. After yesterday at school though - I think it really took a toll on her, when she got home - not just her ankle was swollen, but her whole foot... As of bed time last night - we still couldn't get the swelling out of her foot at all.

I had promised the girls a trip to the MOA this weekend, but with Alli's ankle - she can't come -there is just no way. We did think about loaning the neighbor's wheelchair, but decided against it last night - we think it's just best if Alli stays home to rest/elevate/ice. So, V and I will be going out for a mom/daughter day... Alli and I will hopefully go with in the next few weeks - since her birthday is coming rather quickly.

So, I need to be upstairs in my sewing room to finish up the last teeny details on this bag, get pictures taken and get it in the mail before V and I leave. I would like to be at the MOA at opening, so we can get a parking spot - with the crappy weather this week, I have a feeling it will be busy. I will definitely have pictures posted this afternoon/evening. :thumbsup2

On to my couponing madness...

After dropping Alli at school yesterday morning, I went straight to BFF's house, we arrived at Target just at store opening (8am)...

Now that I have been doing this for quite a while, I like to think that I have adjusted to this quite well, and it doesn't take me that long... But it's still taking me a long time, it just doesn't feel that way.

I had quite a bit on my list for yesterday - I was using the last of my razor coupons, the very last shaving cream coupons, many food items... I found a different website that had the BOGO for Josh's coffee creamer - so I was able to get a bunch of those. I am not even sure what my best deals were yesterday, because I had so many free items. But I also had a few items that were added to my list at the last minute that I did not have coupons for... Oh well - An "A" for effort, I guess.

So, my stats at the first Target were (we had to go to two Targets because the first Target was totally out of Josh's creamer)... Total before coupons $269.72 - After coupons and discounts $96.40 for a total savings of $173.72 or 64%! I am happy with that number - it seems to be about average for me. 71% is still my best (I've started tracking it in an Excel document).

My stats at the second Target... All I purchased here was 8 bottles of creamer and 3 body washes. My total before coupons $33.80... After coupons was $13.56... For a total savings of $23.67 or 70%. I include this is in m my coupon shopping - but I don't really think of it as a "trip" considering I just had to go in for those 2 items.

Finally, at the grocery store... My total was $123.09... After coupons $62.32... For a total savings of $61.68 or 50%! This is quite good for me at this store, this 50% savings is tied with my best savings so far. It's just way cheaper and a much better deal for me to do most of my shopping at Target because of my Team member discount topped off with my Red Card discount - and next pay day BFF should have another Pharmacy Rewards card, which I plan to use.

So, all in all my grand total spent yesterday was $172.28. My budget for groceries/household items this time was $215, so I came in $42.72 under budget, but I came home with $426.61 in groceries and houshold items. :thumbsup2 I am happy with that.

**********************************************************

Thanks for listening to my coupon ramblings, I know they get kind of boring. But it is something that I am really loving to do - I really look forward to these shopping trips, and seeing how much $$ I can save our family. It's like a game. :woohoo:

So, I better get a move on today - I have to be out the door with V at precisely 9am. I hope you all have a wonderful day today! :lovestruc

D~

Poor Alli I hope she gets better soon.

What a great saving on your grocery shopping :cool1: :cool1:

Oops, with the Momzilla comment, I missed putting in that it was my MIL who said this.

Great job on the shopping, I love hearing of your deals.

Poor Ali, I hope she feels better. If she keeps it elevated and ice on 20 minutes and then ice off 20 minutes for most of the day, hopefully that will bring some of the swelling down.

And have fun at MOA with V!

I just love, love, love this bag!!! It turned out so classy and just perfect! This is totally a bag that I would love for myself, and I would absolutely carry it on a daily basis at home or in the parks. :thumbsup2

Totally in love with the new bag. I am really digging the fabric :)

Have fun at MOA and fabulous savings.

OMG D~ I think this is my FAVORITE bag that you have done! (Please don't go back and read my previous posts as I'm sure I have used that statement a time or 2 before. :confused3) I have a thing for black and white and the damask print is just beautiful. One of my new loves is chevron prints, so you have combined all the things I love into one bag! GREAT job!

Sorry to hear about Alli's ankle and her slow recovery. You mentioned rest/ice/elevation but you left one important thing out...COMPRESSION! It's the R.I.C.E. method for treating sprains/strains. Wrap the ankle snugly in an ace bandage. Be sure it doesn't cut off circulation or make her toes tingle, but you want it snug. This should help with the swelling in addition to the ice and elevation. You might already be doing this for her, but just in case I thought I would mention it! I hope she gets better soon. OH...I just thought of it...soaking in EPSOM salt will help with the swelling and pain also. I have very weak ankles and roll them pretty regularly...usually just walking on flat ground :faint: so I am pretty familiar with treating these things. ::yes::

Your couponing deals are fabulous!! :cool1: I wish I had the time and patience to do this. I usually just end up buying stuff I wouldn't normally get (just because I have a coupon).

I hope you and V have a fun time at the MOA. I would love to make it there one day!!

I didn't think your DD said it just some snippy person at the party Sounds to me like you're doing a fabulous job IGNORE IGNORE IGNORE & since its your MIL IGNORE even more save yourself years of hurt grief and letting someone else get into your head

Ali :flower3: I FEEL your pain stay off it all weekend :wave2:

That bag is CLASSY !

Love the new bag! My DD29 just "liked" it on facebook, now she wants one ;) I told her you were booked up for months and months :sad1: Looks like I'll have to keep an eye out for your next openings! Just wanted to let you know you have a new fan.

P.S. She likes my bags, but has never said she wanted one until she saw your latest :flower3:

I really think MY castle bag is the best but this sure is a beautiful bag! Your color choices are spot on and I could really see it as an everyday (not just at Disney) bag!

Thanks so much for all the good thoughts and prayers for me. They mean so much and......for the first time in two weeks I feel a bit better today! Ruth
