Atlanta, have you made your milk & bread run?

I'll take 2' of snow over 1/2" of ice ANY DAY.

I'm from Alabama and used to laugh about people making the bread and milk run until the snow storm we had in northern Alabama in 1993. We were without power for 7 days, no water for 2 days, and we ran out of several food items. Several older people froze to death in our area as roads were impassable for days. Now, I don't laugh, but I definitely make the milk and bread run. Better safe than sorry!

Edited to add that we had 18 inches of snow in the backyard during this storm.

This is my first winter in Birmingham, Al and I am nervous about the snow today/tomorrow... My company wants us to work Monday if we can get there/it is safe... I don't know at what point it is safe, since I've never done this before. LOL.

I am looking forward to my chihuahua getting to play in it! :goodvibes

My Dad has told me stories about the time he lived on Lookout and a huge ice storm hit. BRRRRRR, would not want to be up there this weekend.

It have be one powerful storm get throw all those mountains.

The bad part it coming out Texas. Anything coming out Texas is get for sure.

If they is like Chattanooga they shut down the city. Alone going work lets emergency people. I seriously doubt going work tomorrow or the next day.

My job just call say be sure cut on the news tonight check see if they close. My mom job call my sure snow hot line number for work. Everyone in my family is getting calls left in right from there jobs.

Okay Chattanooga is a scary city because of all the mountains and valleys. All those lively bad roads that we have.

Were ready! We bought every last single gallon of milk and loaves of bread the store had!!;) JK- But it sure looked like that is what others were trying to do:lmao:

We live at the tip top of GA, just shy of TN and we were hit bad what I believe was the same storm you are referring too... We went about a week w/no electicity and we had a heat pump- so no gas heat and the kids were babies at the time; It was horrible... We lived on the side of the mountain, no way to get down... phone service was out, didn't have cell's at the time... My dad ended up coming and resucing us in his 4WD- they lived a few counties south and still had electricity and all... I can't imagine if he would not have came how miserable and potentially dangerous that week could have been.....

I think most folks are preparing for the worst. My sister-in-law is a nurse in the Atlanta area and has to work a 12 hour shift beginning at 7 pm tonight. They have been told to be prepared to stay until Wednesday or Thursday if needed, so she's sleeping all day today and packing a bag. My brother is a manager at an area Lowe's, and he said anything they had related to cold weather was sold out by 11 am yesterday. I'm up in the NE corner of GA, and the grocery stores are selling out of stuff as soon as they can stock it! A friend of mine was at Ingles about an hour ago and said the bread man wasn't even bothering to put it on the shelves. . .instead, he was handing it out!! Not a single cart was left in the entire store. . .couldn't even find a parking spot!:scared1:

I'm in Newnan (just barely south of Atlanta). I went back out about an hour to go to get one more gallon of milk, marshmallows (gotta have those for the hot chocolate), and some starter logs just in case we lose power. Kroger in town wasn't too bad, actually. I figure most people went yesterday or early this morning. They were trying to keep everything stocked, too. The one weird thing I saw was that there were NO potatoes ANYWHERE!! :lmao:

It has been snowing here in Little Rock for about 30 minutes. Everyone enjoy the snow and stay safe!

I just turn on the local news and have the all schools is close for tomorrow. Some business is starting to close too.

No work for me tomorrow now. We follow school schedule.

We stopped by Publix this afternoon so I could get a paper (which were all sold out first thing this morning :confused3) and it was crazy! UGA starts back tomorrow so all the kids were back from break stocking up their apartments plus you had everyone who was stockpiling for the snow. I really think classes and schools will be canceled for a day or two, but we'll see. They had plenty of milk, although there were signs hanging saying they were out of milk, so I'm guessing they must have just had a delivery. Plenty of bread and eggs, but the top ramen section was bare. Snow starts here in a couple of hours, so we'll see how it goes.

WOOHOO!! Our county already cancelled school for tomorrow! I LOVE knowing this ahead of time. . .I get to sleep late! (Can you tell I'm a teacher??)
:dance3:

This is what I'm waiting on!! Our county is notorious for not canceling until midnight or 6:00am. It is SOOOOOOOOOO frustrating. I want to stay up late and sleep in, please...Coweta...just make the call!! :worship:

Have a wonderful day off! I am hoping that our school makes an early decision, because this school nurse loves a good snow day!

Me too--school nurses LOVE snow days! They cancelled our city and county schools. Depending on how much ice we get, we could easily be out most of the rest of the week. Yay! :yay:

Got to the store this morning and was able to get everything we needed. They seemed a bit low on milk and bread, but they usually get their shipments on Mondays (when I normally do my shopping). So far the predictions for our area are varying widely so who knows what we will end up with. It all depends on the actual track the storm takes and how much hits us (Northeast Tennessee). Some back roads are still bad from the snow Thursday-Friday-Saturday so I don't even want to know how bad they will be tomorrow.

Luckily, Ingles had plenty of ice melt and I was able to grab 2 good sized bags of it. I was nearly out (about one more application worth).

They made the call about 2pm to close schools here tomorrow - Muscogee county.

I went to literally 10 stores including Lowe's, Target, Walmart and Tractor Supply and not a single place even carries any form of ice melt. All of the grocery stores were sold out of rock salt so the best I could do is grab some plain kitty litter and regular salt for the driveway. I backed the van into the garage and lifted the wiper blades on the 2nd vehicle that has to sit outside. Let's just hope we don't have to go anywhere because the roads around here will be a nightmare once this weather starts.

The high on Tuesday is supposed to be 45 so that should help melt what ice accumulation we have at that point.

I'm tired of shopping. We are set with enough groceries for a week and enough propane to cook with on the grill if we lose power. We're hunkered down and as ready as we are going to be! :thumbsup2

Just received a text from the school. Snow day tomorrow! So excited!!!!!! Minky enjoy the day.

True to form, Fayette County cancels and less than 20 minutes later, we do, too! :cool1:
