At what age did you start using...

Guess lucky here
42 for reading and computer work (opps should have them on now)

I was 50 before I needed glasses. Mostly for reading with a minor distance correction, so far :)

I was 4 when I started wearing glasses. I went to contacts at 16.

I've been wearing glasses since first grade for nearsightedness. I'm overdue for a visit to the ophthalmologist, and I see a new script in the future. LOL! I find it easier to read without my glasses on.

I got my first pair of glasses in 3rd or 4th grade - I got contact lenses as a senior in HS. All my siblings wear glasses (or contact lenses). DH & both DSs wear glasses/contact lenses.

Think I was 19 or 20. Realized I couldn't read the blackboard in college lecture hall classes. Didn't start wearing them regularly until maybe a couple years later. On my way for my next eye exam next week - yay, new glasses!!:)

I am very near sighted. I first got glasses in 2nd grade, I know wear bifocal contacts!

5th grade failed eye exam. Never will forget the first time I put them on and went outside. There were individual leaves on trees you could see.....the colors were so bright, the picture in the living room had a man sitting under the tree..
45 now just got my first "progressive" lens.

Both DD's failed their school eye exam in 3rd grade. Both wear contacts now.

I started about 2 years ago at 36 years old, it was a minor prescription only needed for reading

Yikes! I am almost 35 and don't need them yet...could the day I need 'em be catching up with me just around the corner? The way I sit in front of the PC so much I wonder why I haven't needed them YET!

My mom didn't need them til menopausal age (50's or so) , her eyes got blurry and she thought she either going blind or had a brain tumor! Such a hypochondriac! LOL

I got glasses at 9, contacts at 16 (when I paid for them) and bifocal glasses at 40+. I have had bifocal contacts for many years now.

I'm really nearsighted and the only good thing about that and getting old is that I can read "anything" when I don't have corrective lenses on - it's nice to read before bed with no glasses.

I always hated being so nearsighted but I can see to put on makeup and read tiny print without needing corrective lenses.

At the grand old age of 7. I wore contacts during my teen years, but now at 50 I have just wear plain old glasses. I am extremely nearsighted. My eyes have been changing though here recently so I am anxious to get my eyes checked again soon.

I started wearing glasses when I was seven and contacts when I was fourteen.

 I guess I'm one of the few lucky ones too. I'm in my 40's & no glasses yet! I have to say, there would be NO WAY I could wear contacts. If something got that close to my eye, I'd probably faint! :faint:

I've had glasses since second grade. BTW, my understanding is that no matter what , sooner or later your eyes deteriorate such that reading glasses are required even if you don't need glasses for anything else. This happens to most people in their 40's or early 50's.

I wore glasses for almost a year and a half after my second child was born. That pregnancy really did a number on my body! Then my eyesight "stablized" and I was told to stop wearing the glasses. Weird. My hearing did the same cycle with that pregnancy.

I still don't need glasses. I can't imagine wearing contacts. Not for me!

Glasses in fourth grade. Eyes got PROGRESSIVELY worse until 1992. I then had RK (please don't ask me to spell out what the initials mean) surgery. OUCH! I should have waited until laser surgery became popular. Back to wearing glasses. I am just past the point of them being required for driving (yes, I use them while driving, if you're curious), and need them while on the computer. Otherwise, I spend the rest of the day (while watching TV or exercising) without my glasses on.

I think I was about 25 when I got my first glasses.

At 45 my arm became to short to read... :p .... so I started buying the reading glasses you get from any store. I still use the lowest strength but cannot read a newspaper or directions without them!

My sister is 48 and still doesn't use any glasses and my Dad used only the storebought ones till he died at 83. Hopefully I will follow their trend!
