At the risk of inciting a riot....pool hopping on rental points?

Not sure, but I don't think so. All the 'perks' that are considered member priviledges, pool hopping included, are for members only.

When you rent points, and check into your your DVC villa, your room key card will NOT say "DVC Member" on it. I think this is what makes the difference.

In the pool hopping guidelines, it states pool hopping priviledges are for members, staying on points...etc. So you can't use the pool, even as a member, if you're not also staying at one of the resorts on points.

Technically, no. Renters are NOT entitled to pool hopping privileges.

In reality, your room ID will likely say "DVC Member" and thus you will be able to use that ID to pool hop.

Enjoy!

I hate to contradict Caskbill, but when you check into DVC, you room card will most likely say "DVC Member" even if you are renting. At least it did the two times we rented last year before we bought into DVC.

Technically, you are not supposed to pool-hop unless you are a DVC member staying on your points, but if your room card says "DVC Member" and they are allowing pool-hopping when you are there; I guess there would be nothing stopping you from doing it.

If a DVC member can pool hop, the folks they rent (or in the case of my lucky relatives, give) their points to should be able to do the same.

Technically guests of the member will get the same priviledges as the member except for the 10% discount on the UMP passes (unless the actual member is present) and the member discount on cash reservations. Renters are not supposed to get the additional benefits. As noted in this thread, reality is that the card will usually say member and all of the benfefits including the 10% discount are likely to be offered to renters.

If we (as renters) aren't supposed to pool hop, then we WILL NOT be doing it. I just wanted to know what the rules are before we go, to make sure we follow them and everyone is happy. I also wonder about the fitness centers that they have at the BWV and WL...can renters access those centers, and is there a fee involved?

Thanks so much for all your help!:)

My DSIL used the BWV fitness center almost every day last week. There is no fee for DVC members. Her room key/ID card did say "DVC Member" on it and she told me that the CM held her card until she left. There is a fee, but I do not know if BWV/BWI guests have to pay it or if the fee applies to all users who are not DVC members.

FWIW, my DSIL reported that the center wasn't very busy at all and she even had the whole place to herself some mornings. This surprised me a little (well, not really:)) because the BW hotels appeared to be full (President's week). I didn't use the fitness center myself - figured all that walking should be good enough:D.

FWIW, I don't see anything wrong with you using the fitness center or even pool hopping if your room key says "DVC member" on it. If Disney cared to differentiate between "renters" and "guests of members", they could certainly at least make an attempt to do so. The CMs don't even ask. I bet if you ask one of the CMs at the front desk, they'll tell you to go ahead and not worry about it. JMHO.

Have a wonderful stay!
