Today DD15 is DD16!!! She's taking her road test as we speak. Pray!! This is super nerve wracking... I'm glad this is the last time I have to do this...

Our twins are counting down the days for their permit too. They will start their drivers education classes in school mid-March and will be able to take their permit tests sometime mid-late April. With our oldest driving and doing most of our carpool runs I can hardly wait for the other two to get their driver's licenses. DS17 will be at college next year so we will have most of the school year without him helping--I am going to miss that.

DD15 has per permit now and can take the road test in Feb. Not sure how I feel about that. Well, maybe I do.

DD17 hasn't scheduled her road test yet. Considering what my insurance will be after she gets her license, I am not in any hurry to nag her about it.

SHE PASSED!!!!!! WOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!

This is such an exciting day for her - it's her actual birthday so it would have been awful if she had failed. She's a good and careful driver, though, and I wouldn't have let her take the test if I'd thought she wasn't ready. Just wanted to make sure her nerves didn't get in the way - but we had a nice grandmotherly inspector so she joked a little and that really helped.

Now I am waiting on a phone call to say she got to school safely - she is allowed to drive herself to school this morning and home this afternoon but she MUST call and tell me she got there so I won't freak out...

Edited to add: She just called and was THRILLED with herself for driving to school. One down, one to go today...and then every day!!

Mine went up $612 from December 2 until my renewal in February. I am dreading the yearly premium...

Thanks! She's been a driving fool today - to school and back home, then to pick up a friend and dinner at Chick-Fil-A, followed by a basketball game at church and back home - all before 9pm as she can't drive after 9pm for the first six months.

She did really well and remembered to call me (except once!) when she was leaving one place and then arriving at the next (Mom's rule for the first several weeks.) All in all a successful day!!

But I have to ask....how? How did she get her DL in NC on the day of her 16th birthday? We aren't able to do the driving portion (6 hours behind the wheel) of driver's ed until they turn 15---which takes usually 3 days. Then one full year of having a learner's permit before being allowed to take the driver's license test. Is it different in our county?

I remember how excited I was to get my license. The first time I did the maneuverability I passed and I was THRILLED. So thrilled that I didn't completely stop at two stop signs on the first test . I didn't care though because I had at least passed maneuverability. I passed the second time I did the driving portion.

Now driving isn't too special anymore since it will be five years in April (the first!)

dis-happy, I don't think you have to wait until they are 15 to get the road hours - our kids don't. They have the 30 hours of classroom and the 6 hours of driving before they turn 15 - as a matter of fact, it's always a little bit of a race to get those 6 hours in before their birthday.

DD16 had her driving done in time and so she went for her permit a year ago today. She came back exactly a year later on the same date and got her license today.

Maybe it's the driver's ed program you are using? I can't explain it - I just know that all of the kids in both DD21's class and now DD16's have had those 6 hours before they were 15.

I think it's just a difference in driver's ed programs. Sounds like you are going through the public school system? My daughter had driver's ed with a private company and the instructor is a small one-man operation so he only takes a limited number of students at a time based on whether he can get them all through the classroom portion and get their 6 hours in by their birthdays.

So far so good on the driving - 24 hours later! She did well last night and remembered to call - except for once! - and I called her and let her know she could not forget again. She had just realized it and was calling to tell me she had forgotten!! I said, "If you forget to call me I'll forget where I put your car keys." I've gotten my calls ever since then!!

We'll see how the weekend goes - I have lots of Christmas shopping to do and I think I am going to have DD16 "practice" driving to the shopping center a lot!!
