I was shooting for anything under 2:30 and/or an 11 minute per mile pace. My official time as posted on the Wide World of Sports website is 2:18:53 with a pace of 10:51.6.
The last two miles were the hardest. Previously I had never run longer then 10 miles. Up until just after mile 10 I was running just under a 10 minute per mile pace.
My goal was to run the first 10 miles without stopping. I stopped to walk the first time somewhere between mile 10 and mile 11. I walked a few hundred feet and then walked about an 1/8 of a mile during the 12th mile. I was just glad to find that my walking did not cause me to miss breaking the 2 hour mark.
The start was cold. I arrived in the Goofy parking lot around 3:50 in the morning. I did not cross the start line until 6:05 ish. I had bought a 6 dollar pair of pants from
walmart to throw to the side after the race started. It was like several hundred suitcases had exploded along the side of the roads in Disney. Everyone was shedding layers. Pants went first. Most were gone by mile 2. Sweat shirts went next. They littered miles 3 to 5. The funny thing was to see all the gloves at mile 12. I took mine off but kept them. I was happy to put them back on after the finish.
The best part was running through Epcot in the morning before the sun came up. The lights were on at the countries like they were going to do the fireworks. The only people in the park were the volunteers and the runners. They were blasting music just like at the fireworks.
My son is much better. A few days of the antibiotic and his ear infection was no longer bothering him. His ear drum burst the night after we took him to the doctor. He ended up with thrush but that was fixed with another prescription.
If I can just walk in the morning we are going to enjoy the warm weather at one of the parks and get in some good swimming.
Thanks for all the well wishes.
