assisted suicide.

I'm all for it.

Being stuck in a hospital bed for even just a few weeks is an aweful experience. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to stay there for months. And not only that...but being in so much pain or in such a critical condition that you can't even take care of yourself anymore. You can't get up to go to the bathroom, but rather have to have nurses come over to empty a bed pan every few hours. You have so many tubes and wires put into your body that it's nearly impossible to count them all. You can't eat by yourself so the doctors put a tube down your thoat so they can pour liquified sludge into your stomach. And then, worst yet, you get to look at the expressions of your loved ones as they do it. You see the pain and up hurt in their eyes...know that THEY know you won't be around to see their next birthday or Christmas.

Would YOU want to stay alive at that point?

If a person is in such a condition and is still there mentally, I believe that they should have every right to have assisted suicide if they and their families agree with it.

This subject reminds me of how much my opinion has changed over the years.
I would have been totally opposite if you'd have asked me this like...2 years ago.

I'm for it.

It stinks. I felt horrible because I could see the pain on my friends and families faces, and I knew I was the one causing it. There were days I begged God to just let me die, I didn't want to be in pain anymore.

When my nanny said she wanted to be with her husband in heaven we let her go.

I don't understand why people have to suffer if they want to go, respect their wishes and let them go.

I'm for it, if the person who is suffering wants it and another person is ok assisting it should be allowed. Its that persons body the only thing they truely own from Birth til death.

If I was suffering to the point I know I couldn't bear it anymore I would want this.

Really its the persons choice I'd say :)

My favourite musician sang about it too:
"If I lay crying in my bed, waiting,
No Longing for the end,
If I decide my time has come,
would you be that trustful one,
To guard this chamber, break this shell,
and free me from this living hell,
by making sure my death is swift,
Would you grant me this sacred gift?

(she's suffered 40-odd years of depression, 50 something of gender issues and also its believed she has problems with her eyes/vision)

I'm reluctantly for it. But I think that either the patient needs to have said that it is okay, or the family go through counseling first so that they know what they are doing and to make sure that it's not just out of grief.

if there is a hell, i think it would be to lay in indescribable pain for a whole month before someone else decided if you had suffered enough to allow you to die.

i've watched a child waste away on life support. they made her heart pump, they made her lungs breathe. her mind was gone. there is no reason at all for her to have to exist like that. let her die.

perhaps if you have ever been in the situation to watch someone you love slowly, painfully die-your feelings would be different.

Or actually, perhaps not. My grandparents have died after very long times in the hospital for cancer, metastasis of that cancer, pneumonia, alzheimers, multiple strokes, etc.. All three had too many illnesses to count on one hand. One was on morphine. That's not something you give to people you think will live because it is very addicting. It is given to ease the pain of someone dying. They did not end their lives within one month of having a terminal illness. Maybe I am being selfish because I wish they had more time, but none of them ended their own lives. My opinion is my opinion, and my sympathies lie in that. I don't care if you want to die, if it is meant to be, then it will happen. If it doesn't, then you are alive for a reason.

Bull. I had cancer and had come out of a knee replacement operation and was on Morphine. The other times I wasn't even near surgery I was on Dilaudid, which is even stronger because Morphine didn't help. I was NO WHERE near terminal. That was a blanket statement my friend, and unfortunately you are wrong.

They give you morphine when you go into surgery and for a while after you come out of it. But under normal circumstances it is not given for everyday use.

Yes it is, it's happen many times in 3 different hospitals.

I stand corrected. But even by taking Dilaudid or Morphine you are at a high risk of addiction. With either one, you can become addicted within a few days, depending on the amount of mg in your dosage. A modified statement of my old one would be that doctors are careful of who they prescribe these to.

I'd rather assist in suicides than work for the military.
I think it should be allowed for anybody who wants it. If someone wants to kill themselves, nothing should hold them back. Not the law, and not morals.
Dr. Kevorkian wasn't evil. He was a smart man who gave people what they wanted. We're just brainwashed to believe he's evil. He's also an amazing artist.

I just realized something. Depression is so, so painful. To get to the point where you actually do not want to be living anymore is hard. I've known suicidal people, people who I've loved very much. And when asked why they wanted to take their lives, one of the reasons they all came to was that they thought nobody cared about them. They felt alone.
If you know what it's like to feel alone, you'll understand, but not until then. There's few things worse than feeling alone.
At least with assisted suicide, someone cares about your happiness/well being. You're not alone.

Personally in some situations I'm all for it
Would I want it to happen to myself I'm not sure
But even at that I'm terrified of death because I'm afraid if there were something up there what would happen to me...
