My assistant principal and his wife welcomed their tiny and very premature baby this morning. The baby boy is 1 pound and 11 ounces. He was born at 24 weeks. While we are happy for them, the very real consequences of such an early birth are weighing heavily on all of us. Sadly, decisions had to be made that must be heartbreaking for any parents to face. My AP and his family believe very strongly in the power of prayer. Please, send your prayers, good wishes, positive energy...anything you believe in to this sweet family. :sad1:

UPDATE: This afternoon we were told the baby boy is holding on. The next 72 hours are crucial. The doctors do say that the lungs are " as developed as they should be at this point." The mom is doing well and should be released within the next few days. My AP's stepson (though he considers him his son) is a student at our school. He is so excited about his new baby brother and has no idea how grave the situation is. Please continue to send prayers for the baby and family.
Thank you!

Wow! I'll pray for them too. I know a strapping, 27yo man who's an EMT, just finiishing med school and was born at under two pounds. It's clearly a miracle story, so they do happen.

Thank you. When I arrived at school at 7:20 this morning, he had not been able to see the baby. The baby is on a vent (obviously) and my AP was hopeful he would be able to see the baby in an hour or so. We are just waiting on more news now.

I'm hoping for the best for all involved. How difficult this must be for the family and those who love them. Fight, tiny guy!

Prayers for them. The NICU is a roller coaster ride. They will need prayers and support through it.

Saying many prayers for this beautiful little bundle.

Sending up prayers for all involved. Please keep us posted.

We have church friends whos daughter had a little girl and she was just over 1 lb. She survived and is doing remarkably well for what she went thru. She is now 4 I think and so cute but so small. Her younger brother who is several years younger than her is double her size. She is a pistol. Our prayers are with the family.

Prayers!

My daughter was in NICU for several months after she was born and the babies there fought to live! Their strength was incredible and there were miracles all around!
:flower3:

I have a good friend whose youngest granddaughter weighed 1# 4 oz at birth. She's three now, tiny still, but rules the roost.

I had my son premature and he was 2lbs 5 oz. at his smallest. He was in NICU for 10 days and in the hospital for 7 wks. but you wouldn't know that now. He is a healthy 13 year old. When he was in the NICU there was a baby girl that was 13 oz. and she left the hospital before my son and she was doing wonderful. It is amazing how strong these little babies are. Will be sending good thoughts and prayers their way!

Praying that this tiny guy gets stronger & praying for his family.

Thank you all for your good thoughts, prayers, and positive stories. I'm anxious to get to school this morning and find out if there is an update. I'll keep you all posted as I know anything. Keep the prayers going, please!

Oops double post

13years ago my friend gave birth to. 1 pound 5 ounce baby. She was the tiniest thing I had ever seen. Now she is your average size 13 year old doing just fine. Her only "issue" is that she wears glasses. And that was long ago, imagine how far medicine has come since then!
