Ashley Madison an auspicous day

I wouldn't want federal workers surfing the DIS inappropriately either. I understand that it is generally okay for federal workers to reasonably use government computers on the clock to conduct personal business (check news, weather, bank stuff, probably a little DIS, etc). I don't think they should be surfing the web all day, watching porn, gambling, going bowling, sitting at home getting paid, etc. Why should our tax dollars pay for that? I'm not sure where Ashley Madison falls, but I'm guessing it is considered inappropriate for federal workers to view at work on government computers.

Yes, infidelity can be prosecuted under the UCMJ, and is probably grounds for loss of a security clearance, but I was not advocating a witch hunt. But I definitely would be concerned if elected or appointed officials, including the President, were regularly engaging in such behavior, especially if they were stupid enough to do it on Ashley Madison. I won't even go into the moral issues, but it just shows extreme idiocy, weak lack of self-control, and yes it is a potentially grave security risk.

I don't have knowledge of any officials on the list. I was just quoting the AP article and opining that Duggar is a sideshow. I had to look the guy up, and I still don't get why people care one way or another what he says or does.

The obvious hypocrisy is the tip of the iceberg. They (and some of the organizations they support) have really hurt people with their actions and words.
Dugger "Inc" has had far more influence and support than you imply. On the good side, their power has been sidelined each time more truth comes out. I hope it stays that way.
FWIW, Your average GS9 really doesn't compare in influence to them. JMO, YMMV and all that.

Gwynne, I just want to clarify my post. I did not imply that a GS-9 has more influence than Duggar. I was talking about elected and appointed officials. I believe they are in a better position to influence politics, but hey, I may be wrong!

It's only recently that couples have married for love. In what way is it fair to hold someone else to the same standard for choice of mates as yours?

That then begs the question - if a couple falls out of love, should they divorce since they are now somehow misleading others? What if you don't believe in divorce?

The hackers have released a second big-dump of data, so it's not over yet.

Not good news. When hackers are able to run rampant, apparently immune to prosecution or even identification, it's not a good thing for those who want to live freely in a civilized society. There's much reasoning why the U.S. has a justice system strongly rooted in the ideal that justice should be blind. Those who think it's no big deal to abandon that because this hack involves a bottom feeding business patronized by less than respectable people might want to put some thought into just how far down that slippery slope that slide could carry everyone.

Well said. This also reminds me a bit of the hacker leak from last year, when intimate cell phone photos of dozens of celebrities were released on Reddit. There was an uncomfortable amount of slut-shaming ("well, they shouldn't have taken those photos if they didn't want them leaked") whereas we should all be worried about our own privacy.

Absolutely true. Not to mention I'm very uncomfortable with the notion that somehow being famous transforms you into a commodity instead of a human being.

The fact that they allegedly have credit card numbers shows that this hack should be treated like any other and AM should be offering free credit monitoring.

Full credit card numbers weren't stored, only the last 4 digits, so people's credit should be safe. Their reputations on the other hand...

Don't be so sure that the Duggar family doesn't hold a lot of political power.

Would it be any different if government workers were surfing the DIS rather than the Ashley Madison site? I don't see the difference to the public. Affairs aren't against the law (although apparently if you are in the military it is). I don't care if the President is cheating any more than my neighbour down the street as long as they aren't running their campaigns condemning it. That's for the wives to worry about. When are we going to stay out of everyone's bedroom (or car, ha)?

Yep, government works are allowed to have affairs. They are also permitted to surf non-business internet sites during their lunch hours and even our agencies have social networking sites that were are encouraged to post to (during work hours no less). At my agency, all suspect sites are blocked but anything else is fair game.

Plus registering at a site with your .mil or .gov e-mail address doesn't even mean you are using the site during work hours. You are just posting your contact email on the site.

I have very little info on Josh Duggar or that family. All I know is they have a LOT of kids and they preach family values. I believe they are backing or are being used by the "family values" political force in this country. You know the group that is behind the scenes lobbying for extremely conservative "values" for the country. They are VERY powerful. I believe Josh Duggar is making inroads there as a front person for that group, however much they try to downplay it. So he is now just one of a steady stream of hypocrites that group continues to have and cannot seem to control. That's why people care what he says and does.

Another pseudo 'celebrity' has been exposed, Sam Rader, a youtuber. He and his wife are apparently famous for some Disney lip synching videos, as well as their recent video where he revealed their pregnancy to his wife by taking her pee from the toilet to do a test (she unfortunately later miscarried). Like in the case of the Duggars I feel most sorry for her and the kids.

You can test someone's pee from the toilet? Seems like it would be pretty diluted. He sounds like a flake.

I watched that recently with my daughter and her first response was "why are they telling the little kids that when she is just pregnant, they should wait until she is further along and less chance of miscarriage!" Sad to hear that it actually happened and that he is also a cheating slimebag.

I happened upon that weird video of him testing her pee and I was grossed out. Also, he very clearly desires to be an internet celebrity and is enjoying turning his family into a brand. He has already put up a video admitting the AM thing and saying he has been "cleansed" through God's forgiveness. He is utterly obnoxious. I also love how they titled their Frozen singing video "Good looking couple sings Frozen." Buddy, you ain't all that.

More likely a fake rather than a flake. Several medical doctors have also questioned this and also the company that makes the test. Many believed it was staged for publicity. He had wanted to quit his job and make a living by vlogging. It certainly boosted their ratings.

Got to love it. Florida State Attorney Jeff Ashton had accounts on Ashley Madison. He says he was just curious and used his own computer to access the site instead of the state's. He says he never cheated. I would imagine a lot of those who had accounts there are saying the same thing.

Even if he never cheated, I can't say much for his sense of honor. Seems like someone in a government position should have a little more sense.

I think I read that Sam rader the YouTube star created his AM account a couple years ago before he was married. But beyond that I don't know details. I don't know if they were dating or engaged at the time or not.
