As the Ticker Turns...the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

Finally read through the 9 pages of the new thread! Won't even try to respond to everyone though. :-)

Few quick things...LOVED WL!!! I don't think I can say that enough. DH liked it too and the kids lived the bunk beds. :-) perfect for our family! I would definitely book it again. I may even like it more than the Poly! We had pretty good luck with transportation there too. :-)

Went to Ohana for breakfast our last day and it was sad seeing the Poly the way it was... :-/

Definitely a deluxe girl...did not enjoy POR...

Epcot fireworks on the 4th were the most amazing I have ever seen. I say they were even better than MK's! The only part I did not enjoy was the fact that during the last song "God Bless the USA," some of the South American tour groups (extremely annoying as they already were) starting singing/chanting their own song...I found it offensive at that point in time...

We love WL too. But also POR mansion section. Ugh those tour groups :sad2: surprised they are there now. January is usually the big tour group time. I thought the last 2 January's we've been they were better behaved, not much obnoxious chanting, line cutting, etc. We were on a bus and one if the leaders were actually shushing them when they started getting loud. Sorry to hear it was short lived. I'd prob write wdw about it. That was extremely disrespectful :sad2: I hope they're gone by August!!!

Pas :goodvibes :wave2:

Hello all! Hope everyone had a good weekend! wookie - I hope you get all that drama sorted out soon... sounds like a total PITA!!! Also, HIGHLY recommend trips to DC and Yellowstone/Tetons - having spent oodles of time at each I can't get enough! And, if it opens from Orlando doors, it's totally worth it! So glad you had a great trip and glad to hear you liked the WL bunks. I'm sad to not have the pool at WL on our trip but I do think the beds/resort will be enough to make it fun. I was also not bowled over with POR but did see what others loved about it... just wasn't our taste. Hope you were able to relax sun - vacations always seen to need a vacation to recover! Summer has been so quick! And I am so glad I wasn't on the monorail - I hate heights and that would've probably made me antsy. I had so many issues booking ADRs this weekend! Even on the computer, I would see something and it would disappear as I booked. I chased a 1p ADR for CP for 3 hours because it kept appearing and disappearing. I tried to call but just as I was getting a CM, I was able to grab it. The CM said they had been having trouble with seeing availability as well so it was just fun for everyone. Hope everyone has a good Monday! We're supposed to get some nasty storms tonight so I'm not looking forward to a scared kiddo and shaking pups. Top it off with some fillings I have to get done in a few hours and it's a day of fun! :lmao: :wave2: to all and *HUGS*

I am off to the dentist in an hour as well for a couple fillings... Not fun...

We are all a bit out of sorts right now with having been gone for almost 2 weeks and leaving the day after MIL's funeral...

I need to shower and get tons of laundry done now! Trying to put the house back in order after so many out of town guests, etc.

Good morning! Looks like y'all must start school back around the same time as us. We have meet & greet to meet Reid's 1st grade teacher on Aug. 7th. Then their 1st day of school is August 12th. It's definitely going by quick! We went & bought school uniforms this past Friday. And, of course, a new backpack with matching lunchbox. This year, it's all about Ninja Turtles for him.

DS starts the 15th. I start back the 18th. Can't believe it's only a month away!

Just little things really...and remember, this is coming from someone who has stayed at the Poly 2 times, the Beach Club once, and now POR and WL...before that offsite at the doubletree Suites. I think I am just spoiled...DH and I both (and the kids too) would have rather been at WL the whole trip (even if it meant a bit shorter one).

We were super close to the West Bus stop which was nice, but had to stop at all the rest before leaving the resort which made the trip seem longer than WL stopping at GF before heading to a park. Lack of storage space, small room especially if you had the Murphy bed open (which we did), didn't care for the bathroom layout, long walk to the main building and wasn't impressed with the food court (very slow and not the greatest food IMO). But then again, we don't usually do too many QS meals, but this trip had quite a few more than usual. And the beds were not that comfortable. Seemed thinner, softer, and dipped in the middle...

I will say the grounds were gorgeous and relaxing and super quiet and I would have liked to have time to do the carriage ride and fishing, etc.

The Make Your Own Pasta bar or Salad Bar is amazing at POR. Even when we aren't staying there we've been known to stop by for it. Love the DTD boat too. And Bob Jackson show. :goodvibes

I have never seen so much Disney security and police officers out...it looked like there was almost a "turf/gang war" of sorts going on on Main Street one afternoon...two or three groups chanting back and forth...

I liked the choices for the pasta bar, but not enough sauce and wasn't a fan of the Alfredo sauce... :-/

Did utilize the DTD boat which was nice (to get to DD's BBB appt). :-)

Yikes, that is scary, especially for families with young ones. I wish Disney would crack down on their behaviour. Particularly when it affects other guests. And it does. Don't understand why tour leaders can't or won't keep them under control. :confused3

Happy Monday Morning!!! :wave2:

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Nothing much to report here :upsidedow Can't believe we go back to school in 3 1/2 weeks  The summer has flown by for sure.

Did y'all see the news? Power failure on the monorail :crazy2: Around 100 passengers had to be evacuated from the train. No injuries. But can you imagine having to climb out of that thing!

Piglet ... Is everything done?? All FPs??!! Once you figure that system out, it's not too bad. Just figure it out before the last day of your trip  like me
No, I hadn't heard the news! I can't imagine evacuating a monorail! Hope things were resolved ASAP. :faint:

And yes, all FP are done! I *think* everything is set. We have the ADR's we want, we know what we're doing each day and everything is paid off! :cool1: 56 days to go. It's coming quick!

I can understand that. When DH and I went on our honeymoon, we stayed 6 nights at the Contemporary in the garden wing and then because our flight was cancelled, we stayed 1 night at ASSp and it wasn't great.

And I always have no expectation when it comes to QS meals. It's fast and it's filling.

WL is a place we would love to stay at sometime. It's gorgeous! :goodvibes

Quick recap that I just posted in another thread...

The top 3 TS meals this trip were BOG dinner (LOVED the braised pork dish!) and Liberty Tree Tavern lunch (good burger and awesome toffee cake dessert!), followed by a close tie between Chef Mickey's dinner (we normally do breakfast, but dinner this time was actually pretty good!) and Tony's Town Square for lunch (which was probably the biggest hit for DD who loves spaghetti)

I do wish we would've done CRT for dinner instead of Akershus, but I was trying to use our dining credits efficiently...definitely still prefer CRT...

Loved the character interaction at Chef Mickey's this time (more so than most - maybe because we were one of the last seatings). Garden Grill and Ohana were both good too, but none were bad or anything.

The Family Magic tour was a fun change and DS really enjoyed it. BBB was crazy, but DD loved it. Of course DH wasn't too thrilled with the $200 attitude change. Lol.

FP+ worked fine, but the app was screwy and way slow most of the time. Sometimes I ended up going to the website on DH's phone instead of using the app because it seemed quicker.

POR was nice. Pretty grounds, relaxing, and quiet. Wasn't a fan of the food court, walk to the main building (we were in AB 34), multiple bus stops within the resort before we could go to the parks, lack of storage space in the room, size of the room in general, the layout of the bathroom, and the uncomfortable beds (although I think the one DD slept in was better than ours)

WL was simply lovely. :-) I think I have been spoiled by the deluxes...loved Poly and BC, and now I'm adding WL to the list.

We did the Frozen premium package at HS which was good. Not sure it was completely worth it, but it would've been better if it hadn't been raining the night we did it and saw the fireworks. They have an outdoor dessert party thing to go with it (complete with a few special alcoholic drinks!) and you're right in front of the stage. The sing a long was cute and the welcome parade was fun too (both with reserved seating).

Wish we would've hit rope drop at MK (just missed it by a few minutes) so the kids could see the new welcome show with Anna and Elsa, but maybe next time...(whenever that is). :-)

I don't think I could have climbed out of it. I would much rather stay put in the monorail. I have a ladder phobia and I'm afraid of heights. There is no way I would climb down off that ladder on that fire truck. Well, if they offered me a night in the Cinderella suite, I would really think about doing it.

wookie... What did you knit this weekend??

I'm working on the two scarves I am making for the MVMCP we're going to on my girls only trip. I have only really just started the first one.

wookie - I hope you get all that drama sorted out soon... sounds like a total PITA!!! Also, HIGHLY recommend trips to DC and Yellowstone/Tetons - having spent oodles of time at each I can't get enough! And, if it opens from Orlando doors, it's totally worth it!

I hope so too. I sent all the paperwork to the insurance agent and I'm just waiting to hear back from them.

I would really love to do a trip to both. I'm just leery of doing one to DC until I can get JM to understand that not every thought he has should be verbalized out loud. He doesn't exactly like the current administration and isn't quiet about it. After this last trip, I would love to do another trip that is focused on national parks.

With all the money Disney has to acquire thinks like Marvel and Star Wars, you would think they could hire a better IT staff.

My news, I'll be MIA for a few days. Hubs & I are going over to west coast of Vancouver Island to a friends Cabin on the coast. Leaving daughter home with the animals, lol. Very rustic, no inside plumbing, Internet, etc.

Have a great trip!! Safe travels!!

I can't believe 23 more days till we leave for Florida  but am I the only one who starts panicking the sooner my trip comes up, the more I get :scared1: that it will be over too soon :confused3. I know, I'm crazy!!

I do as well. I worry that I won't get all done that I want to get done, and that I will forget something.

Shhhhh, we don't use bad phrases like "going back to school" in this happy place. :lmao: (totally joking) I don't even want to think about it. I'll have to in high school this year, and I am not looking forward to JM being in high school. My boy's school always starts the last Tuesday in August.

Well, I finally fell asleep sometime close to 5 AM. I slept until 11 and didn't get out of bed, due to a nasty headache until just after noon. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow. I'm going to see if he can give me something for these headaches and maybe something to help me sleep. I haven't been sleeping well since the night of the almost accident. I know that with this legal stuff, I am going to have even more trouble sleeping.

Yeah, I am thinking that the Yacht Club will be my first choice. I have 3 nights at BCV booked already and am thinking a split stay so I can enjoy the both of them. But just in case I have a list in case that is booked up when it comes time to book (and hopefully get a bounceback offer when I go this October) I'm thinking Grand Floridian SL club level is my next choice tho. That way if Trader Sam's does happen to be open I'm just a walk away. Course I'm very liable to chance my mind (which I haven't made up yet anyway, not completely) Isn't planning half the fun anyway? LOL

Appreciate the overview and so glad to see so many positives. We felt same way about AB rooms - I think they are good if you have 2 adults and maybe two young kiddos, but there is just not enough space for older kids. We were in a RR while ILs had the AB room and we all agreed Mansions have more overall space... though both rooms were a hike to the main building.

I am so hoping they decide to keep Frozen HS stuff going into fall!!! I already told TA to book it if it gets extended. *fingers crossed* We decided to do BBB for DD in Dec (for her Christmas present) and DH and I are back and forth about doing the whole package or not -- I got an Elsa dress for her birthday she will see when we get back from ILs but was thinking of doing Rapunzel or Ariel or *fingers crossed* Christmas Belle.

Hope your teeth went well! I am such a baby about the dentist but they were nice. LO thought I was being silly when talkign to her - I had all 4 quadrants numb so I was a laugh riot to her.

love that color! and jealous of your knitting abilities... the last 2 times I tried to knit I ended up tangled in my scarves. Loom bands and embroidery floss bracelets are my limit on string crafts. :artist:

I know what you mean - FIL is very outspoken about administration and was not thrilled we went to 'that imposter's house' for the Easter Egg Roll. :crazy2: Having lived near DC for *thinks* 25 of my 34 years, I learned young to get over it. My only real issue with DC is that I always seem to run into the Presidential motorcade. I've been caught by at least one for ever Prex from Reagan to Obama -- heck, Obama's got me while we were in Hawaii (he worked out on the base where we were stationed). Still, plenty of things to do in DC/Baltimore that avoid THAT house. :thumbsup2
I highly recommend doing a big trip to see Tetons, Yellowstone, and some of the places around WY and CO... even SD. It's a lot of driving but open roads and high speed limits. There is a place in WY called Thermopolis that DD loves with hot springs and amazing dinosaurs... kids over age 8 can go out to the dig sites (like the one they just found a T-Rex at and 3 Triceratops).

With all the money Disney has to acquire thinks like Marvel and Star Wars, you would think they could hire a better IT staff.

I agree - DH always jokes that DIsney will spend money to build a new system to animate a princess' hair but not to book a vacation. :rotfl:

I hope the doc visit goes well and you find some relief. I am an over-worrier and I stress over everything... I had to take Valium before we moved to HAwaii because I was making myself sick with worry. DH asked if we can sedate the dogs and wife when we move to Japan. At first I was offended... then I was curious... :scratchin :p

Tomorrow is 60 days which means a late night hoping FP+ window works at the right time!!! Luckily, DH is staying home most of tomorrow to watch LO while I take dogs to the vet for start of quarantine eliminating procedures and for me to run to various docs for pre-travel screening. It works out well - no way could I hang until 1a if I had to be up with LO... who fully commits to "the sky's awake so I'm awake" logic.

Hope all is well and take care!!!:grouphug:

The good news is FP+ opened at midnight tonight...The bad news is that the system kept booting me out halfway through modifying times/attractions. What an awful system to navigate!!! Seriously, how can the company that develops software to animate hair and is in charge of the Star Wars franchise have such an unwieldy system???

I was able to get E&A for one day but would have had to switch a bunch of stuff around to grab a second - not worth it. I'm bummed it's one of our last park days (I know DD will be DYING to see them) but we'll do Rapunzel on our first MK day instead so that should appease her.
Biggest gripe overall is that I couldn't put DD by herself even though she will be 7 for the trip - it keeps going off her current age. The thing that kills me the most about it is she's 7 next week. I may still try to grab an E&A for her after she turns 7... just could not find two at anywhere near the same time. We had to break our group up for the one I did get (3 of us at 220, 1 at 230) but even that took A LOT of playing around.

Okay, I'm done griping and off to bed. Hope everyone has a Super Tuesday!!!

I had originally booked 2 A & E FPs, but after meeting them on our first day, DD didn't say a word about meeting them again so I ended up canceling the second one.

We were going to just do the hair and nails at BBB since I got her a lovely Anna dress from Etsy. Well, that turned into the full package when we were there so she was Cinderella the first night, then Anna the next day. After that we washed out the mess and at least some of the diva attitude she'd acquired. ;-)

Good Morning!! :wave2:

For whatever reason, I'm really having one of those Disney Blues mornings :upsidedow While I love doing my TR, sometimes browsing through my pictures is just :sad2: I've got to get busy planning another trip

piglet... paid off!!! :dance3: that's the best!! Glad all is done. 56 days will be here in no time. By the way, did you request a certain building at the resort?

Koh...Yay for a mini report!!! Thanks for sharing. Sorry again about POR. The rooms are noticeably smaller than a deluxe for sure. And when you get use to those deluxes, it can be difficult. Glad y'all had success with all your TS meals:thumbsup2 We've never done GG but hear wonderful things. How did ya like all that construction at the Poly??!! Crazy, huh?! But going to be beautiful when they finish. And yes, BBB is expensive but so worth it (JMO;)) Now you have to start making plans for another trip  Which resort will it be??!!

wookie...LOVE the color of the scarf!!! Perfect for MVMCP:thumbsup2 I so wish I could knit or had the time to knit. It's probably very relaxing isn't it? Sorry about your headaches. Hopefully the doctor can help with those.

traveller...YC sounds great! We've booked BCVs twice in the past, but change every time. I get cold feet. I'm kinda a MK resort kinda gal, ya know. And right now, BC is where we're going prior to the cruise....but we'll see. And your GF choice is great, also. Gotta love that resort!!!

dimn... yay for FPs!!! It is a pain to navigate through that system. We didn't get to see E&A. Thank goodness Faith wasn't too upset. When she saw the 240 minute wait, she rolled her eyes. And that's no lie...240 minutes. I have a picture to prove it  At least tonight you'll be able to get some rest since you don't have to stay up so late with the FP system;)

 to all the RC peeps!!!
Happy Tuesday!
Heather

Heather sorry you are in a post vacation funk....but thank you so much for your amazing trip report and pictures everyday.

Argh!!! I'm so conflicted!!

I'm currently booked at POFQ for Marathon Weekend. I'd initially booked POP but after staying there for Expedition Everest weekend, I decided to go to the moderates (nothing wrong with POP, I just wanted slightly more "cushy" since I'm doing Goofy for the first time). So I changed to POFQ figuring I'd try something different - I've stayed at all the other mods with CBR being a favorite.

And now I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing trying something new or if I should call and try to change to CBR (at least when I made the reservations it was the same rate).

HELP!!! Pros and cons for each keeping in mind that one is completely new and one is more like home?

I have never stayed at either but I know some of the ladies here have. My DH's aunt stayed at FQ last year, then stayed at POP and loved it more there! In fact she has another trip planned for POP. :thumbsup2

I jumped onto your blog, so sorry to read your were mugged. :faint: How horrible and scary, but so glad you were not hurt.:flower3:

Thank you!! :flower3:

I did like POP, but (and this may answer my question as I forgot CBR hasn't had queen beds - it's getting done, but no way of knowing if I'd be in one of the refurbed rooms) I was thinking slightly better, slightly bigger bed for resting with doing Goofy. Maybe I should just stick with what I have.
