Art the Greeter at the Beach Club

Art and I just were talking about him retiring and he told me not for another 5-6 years god willing. I'm good friends with him and he hasn't cut his hours back at all. They are asking him to do more than just greet and they want more staff by the door. Sounds like the desk person had no clue and made a assumption that happens alot instead of saying I'm not sure.

If you ask him he will tell you not retiring or anything anytime soon, god willing.

Good to know...so I will edit my post...But I still think it is a great idea to see him, and Art is such an asset, I wish they would keep him in his greeter mode and not over work this great man.

Just wanted you to know that he will be there and not retiring. Looks like we will be at WDW the same time. I'm there 8/30-9/4. Art will be with me from 8/31 eve - morning of 9/4 so he's taking Sat off for my bday. Have a great trip!!!!

I'm to excited to sleep - counting down my days............I get to spend 4 days with Art & his wife starting on Friday - Monday I can't wait to spend my bday with them in all the parks and a birthday dinner at the Yachtsman!!!

You're back! :yay: Details; we want details!! :goodvibes

Hi Laura -

We had a WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!!! It was so cute to see Art on Kali River Rapids for the 1st time - he doesn't go to the parks alot. He was very curious of how wet he was going to get - but we had alot of kids so not alot of weight and not very wet.

He was my personal weekend photographer I think he took 500 pictures from Friday evening until Monday night.

His wife is just as lovely as him!! It was a weekend full of fun, food, pictures and lots of laughs.

Hopefully, I will get some pictures posted this weekend.

So glad to hear you all had a wonderful time! I'm picturing Art riding Kali River Rapids - how cute that must have been!

Looking forward to pictures when you have the time. :)

We just met Art a week ago, but I don't think I got a picture of him, but I did get him on video. I said to my husband and son, "That is the guy we saw on Great Hotels with Sam!" "I know it is!"

We chatted with him for several minutes. What a gracious man! He told us how he honestly has loved everyday of his job! Disney better appreciate that one, because I don't think there are many people out there that can say that! He truly is an asset to Disney!

How nice you are doing this for this fine gentleman. I am sure he will appreciate it - but - I am more then certain his family will appreciate it more!

I will never forget the first time I ran in to him. We had had a bad experience of some sort (have no earthly idea what now). So, I walked in with a bit of a scowel on my face.

He saluted me and I did a double take. He saluted me once more and a small grin appeared. The third salute and I was smiling ear to ear! He came over and said: "You are in the happiest place on earth - I want to see smiles from you the rest of the week!"

The man has a gift! He was put on this planet to do what he does! I hope you can relay this story to him!

We didn't get to see Art this week when we were there. I think you wore him out! =)

I noticed that Art was not there during our stay this week as well. On our last day, I asked one of the managers who was in the lobby, where Art had been. They said he was out sick this week, and would probably miss next week as well. Hope he gets to feeling better soon, I know he is missed!

I don't recall when I first met Art at BCV, but was long before I bought into DVC in May 2006. Art always has a warm, welcoming smile for everyone who comes through the doors at BCV. Art is more than a living "icon" at WDW, he is an example of the Disney Spirit, and I am honored to know him. My mom really likes to see him when we go to WDW. She asks, "Are we going by to say hello to Art??" And I answer back, "Yes ma'am. Need to see Art!" :goodvibes

He only works 8-4? Our flight arrives at 2:40 and we're taking ME to the hotel. I sure hope we can get there before he leaves for the day!!! Pixie Dust for no delayed flights or snow storms on November 30th! pixiedust:

Tink - please tell Art that if there's days that week he'll need to work a few minutes late, please save November 30th as one of those days!!! :flower3:

You will probably miss him on your arrival day - he usually goes on his break from 3-4pm and then leaves for the day. So technically he is off the floor by 3:00pm unless he is needed by management.

We haven't stayed at BCV, but last year we visited for the character breakfast. When we entered the lobby, we were so amazed with how friendly and inviting he was! After our vacation was over and we were talking about all of the highlights of our trip, one thing DH & I both mentioned was "that nice man at the Beach Club". He's so personable and makes everyone feel so special. He's definitely an asset to Disney and he deserves some sort of recognition.

Like alot of you my kids grew up with Art. Disney is VERY aware that Art is an asset. A few years ago they but him on billboards all over Orlando.
