We will be staying on Disney for 3 nights before doing a Disney cruise??? I am really torn on if we should stay at the Art of Animation or Port Orleans Riverside??? They are both similar in price. Port Orleans is about $300 less. My husband and I will be traveling with our twin 8 year old daughters. I want what will be the more amazing experience for them. If we stay at Art of Animation, it would be in a Nemo room and if we stay at Port Orleans it would be in a Royal room. Where would you stay???

i would try port orleans. but i naturally steer away from cutesy, heavily themed or animated stuff. our first stay was at the contemporary, the least "disney-fied" of all the resorts it seems. can you let your girls decide or is that opening up a can of worms if they disagree??

I've stayed at both. On our recent trip my girls were 21, 17 and 13. I let them choose. I was a bit disappointed that they chose Art of Animation. I am not really into the hokey theming of the value resorts. But when we got there we were upgraded to a Lion King Suite. My girls loved staying there. I loved all the room we had in the suite.

Even without the upgrade, I'm betting your kids would prefer AofA.

I'd do the royal room, but I'm a bit biased because I didn't like AOA at all. Too many screaming toddlers for me.

I have stayed at both and like pp it does depend upon your families personal preferences. What I liked about AoA, 2 bathrooms!!! 2 TVs and a bedroom with a Door! Also having the extra space and the dining room table and little kitchenette was nice. We would often get our food from the food court to go and eat in the room. The bus stop is a one stop so you don't have multiple stops like at POR. Everything was very close, especially if you are staying in Finding Nemo Suites. Finding Nemo, Lion King and Cars are all suites and are the same layout and size, but with the different themes. What I did not like, since it is new it is busy, and at the bus stops at the parks to get back to AoA always seem to have the longest lines. We went in September, during the slow time and we waited for about 30 minutes outside MK one night to get the bus because the line was so long. It took 3 of the extra long buses to get everyone picked up. This is only a problem when leaving the park after the shows, Wishes, Illuminations and Fantastmic. We even jumped on Pop Century bus one night and walked across the lake to AoA rather than wait.

POR-the Princess rooms are AMAZING. The room is standard issue hotel room much smaller than AoA. The resort is so spread out that it takes forever to walk anywhere. The feature pool is nice and has a slide. (AoA does not have a slide, but does have a splash area) You really feel like you are in middle of nowhere and it always is quiet. Your walk to the main food court and main pool will be further at POR and they have mulitple bus stops so it seems to take forever to get to the park as you wind your way around the resort.

You can't go wrong here, it is just a matter of which will work best for your family.

For my kids, having a pool with a waterslide is really important. So I would go with POR.

Depends. If you've booked a regular cabin on the ship, I'd book the suite at AoA for the extra space. It will give you a last chance to take a deep breath without bumping into something. OTOH, if you booked a suite on the ship, save some money and stay at POR. Use the savings to splurge on dinner at Palo.
