Okay....I think I will NOT MAKE A REQUEST for our first DVC stay at SSR....so when we arrive on Aug. 15th.....at around 2 or 2:30......will a room already be assigned to us. SO when we check in.......do we have any say in what is chosen for us? Do they have other rooms that we could say "No we would rather be here or there?" I know when we stay at CS I requested a certain bldg. and it was not available so she showed me on the map what my choices were? Just making sure I should't request before hand. Tomorrow is the two week mark. Thanks

You can always ask what they have in a certain section. You don't have to take what they offer.

When we stayed at BCV in June, we didn't have any requests other than non-smoking. We arrived on Jun 1, the first day of the smoking ban. So ultimately, we had no requests. We got a great room close to the elevators on the short wing with a fireworks view - not that we watched the fireworks much from the room. But it was a nice quiet room with a nice quiet view. Except at 9:00PM.

Sometimes they show me what is available sometimes not. I guess it is just timing. Keep in mind, if you change your room after you leave the counter when you check-in, they may charge you $25 for reassigning the room.

I sometimes do not put in a request and always seem to get a room in a good location and sometimes next to the room with the ice machine popcorn:: But a short walk to the lobby

We checked into OKW on July 14th, and he automatically wrote down our assigned room number on the map. DH nudged me with that "aren't you going to say something?" look, so I asked if there were any other two bedrooms available. He was happy to check, found a better room closer to where we wanted to be, and we were extremely happy for the two weeks we were there - just see where they put you, and if you don't like it, ask what else is available before they print your room keys. Have a great trip!

Sooo.... ask them to show you what is available if they don't do it automatically. Almost always when we check in, there are options to be considered.

I am going with an open mind. To be honest..... I really don't think where we stay is going to make or break this trip. SO I will hope for what I want and if not.......I know I will still love SSR and love just being HOME. :thumbsup2

Often when checking in, as the CM is looking at the reservation, I often say something like "...if you happen to have anything in Congress Park, that would be wonderful..." I try to get my request out there in a way that comes across as just that...a polite request. But I do try to mention it at check-in as I have had times when my requests have not made it in the system. They often then look through their inventory and tell me what's available.

I only make requests when my mother is with me as she cannot walk long distances without stopping to rest and the loooong hallways at the BWV can be too much for her. When it is just me and my husband we make no requests and are usually thrilled with our location just because we are thrilled to be at WDW!

DVCtinkerbell, I'm with you on that one, except about the winter part !!

I do not make any request and most of the time take what is assigned, but
I have learned to ask if any thing is ready - usually we are tired from traveling. And getting into a room is a good thing.

Can't say as we've ever been real disappointed.

Enjoy your first stay ! Hope is it magical !pixiedust:
