Ariz. teacher on leave for taking choir to Hooters

not the worst thing in the world and I think the reaction is over the top as far as the actions taken against the teacher.

however, I do feel Hooters is an inappropriate place for a school group! (ETA: unless, perhaps, all the parents were informed and everyone was OK with it, I guess. This clearly wasn't done.) My DH and his last two employers feel it is inapproprite for business lunches, etc. My family never ate our local Hooters and I am glad they did not do well and all of them closed over a year ago.

Just IMHO - and it is up to each family to decide for themselves.

I agree with you. Since some parents might have a problem with it, the teacher should have found some place else for the kids to eat. Hooters intentionally sexualizes their waitresses. It's their restaurant and they have every right to do it. A teacher ought to have enough common sense to know that some parents might have a problem with it.

:thumbsup2

that's exactly why I don't think its a "family place" ... no way do I want my 6 or 4 y.o. daughters emulating the servers by getting their own little "Hooters" t-shirts that they apparently sell for children.

But, how many times have you been pickled?

For all of you who think Hooters is a great family restaurant, how would you feel if she had taken students to a "Peckers" restaurant with a woodpecker as the mascot? The well-endowed waiters, all male of course, wear a costume with a bird on the front of their pants with the beak going down the pant leg beginning at the crotch area?

To me, that's the same as Hooters.

Of course, Peckers Restaurant doesn't exist.

I'm not sure how I would feel. I guess it would depend on how their chicken wings are. Have you had them there? Are they any good?

It sure did exist...but I believe they were were called something that rhymed with SOX. That chain has since gone under.

Obviously you are talking about Lox. I knew that restaurant chain wouldn't make it. I thought it was just weird - those waiters walking around the restaurant with a piece of raw lox hanging down their pant leg, beginning at the crotch area. And their mascot - a salmon. It did nothing for me.

There is ( or was-not sure if either are still there ) a Big Peckers in OC, MD-the mascot was a large rooster. There was also-and I am pretty sure it was right next door-a Bearded Clam restaurant. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I can't help but wonder...do you suppose the parents who happen to be upset with the teacher for allowing their children to dine at Hooters think it's like an old Playboy Club from years ago? Is that what's in their minds? I feel the ones upset over this have probably never been in a Hooters themselves and are envisioning the worst. Maybe? :confused3

Personally, I'm all for getting dolled up and visiting the Pecker Club!

That was the name of a srip club on Family Guy! hehehe...Also, when I was in high school, on a trip to national championships, our teachers took us to dinner one night to a fancy seafood/oyster bar in Louisville, KY....the place was call "Kuntz's", and they had a gift shop where one could (and several students DID) buy a souvenir t-shirt with a picture of a clam and the slogan under the restaurant's name "I ate it raw"

:scared1:

Naturally, we kids were the models of decorum at that meal...snicker...snicker...

This doesn't bother me at all. Our lacrosse team of girls and our families often met at Hooters for post-game celebrations. Although not the same thing, I feel as if it's just like any other restaurant.

And for another topic being discussed, we too had the arms to the side, ends of your fingertips=how long your bottoms could be. This never really worked for someone like me who has shorter arms and a longer torso, I could almost wear boyshorts and pass.

Oh my God. People really do need to calm the hell down.

Okay, I have not felt the need to step in until now. Listen, there are Hooters people and there are not Hooters people. My family falls in with the latter.

I just don't understand why people that disapprove of Hooters or are made uncomfortable by the concept or it goes against their conservative sensibilities.....why they are the ones that need to calm down and are being unreasonable. Can't we have an opinion on Hooters too?

Regardless of the punishment, I think Hooters is probably not the most appropriate restaurant for a school group, even IF they are hs'ers. And, I don't know where you all are from, but at MY high school, I don't remember anyone wearing skimpy clothes, even if in gym class. Now granted, I went to a Catholic school with a strict dress code, but still. Just because there are some girls out there that dress like skanks does not mean that's the norm everywhere.

not always the case, but I think people are so hung up on sex, exposing a little skin by wearing skimpy clothes - which here in FL, where the darn chain originated, it is typical to see people in way less clothing (at least in my town) going to the grocery store. And I think many women have hangs ups about going there simply because it makes them feel all sorts of things, especially if they are insecure to begin with and then they mask it with the "selling themself" "degrading" etc excuses, of course no one on the DIS.....ESPN weekend features NFL cheerleaders who BARE a lot more and ya gonna ban your kids, get on the teachers behind for that? A family friendly event billed by your ever loving Disney?

well, they should...equal time and all that!!!

plus on different days you could change the waiters costumes to vampires!!

judging by a certain sub-culture we could have all those moms protesting hooters RUNNING into the place for lunch!!!

you would be a gozillionare in a short time, especially if you serve salad...dressing on the side!!!!

oh, okay....so now if a woman has "hang ups" or doesn't particularly care for the whole "Hooters" idea, she is insecure?????:rotfl2:

I happen to think I am a fairly young, attractive woman. I workout a lot and have a nice/athletic body to go with it. In no way am I insecure about the way I look. And in no way would I find myself "threatened" by a Hooters waitress. :lmao: The waitresses ARE selling themselves. It is totally within their right to do so. If it weren't about the way the waitresses looked and dressed, they would hire overweight employees. Or they would hire men to wait tables....

Unfortunately this thread is a microcosm of what went down.
99% of the parents had no problem with it whatsoever but the 1% minority who likely have never set foot in a Hooters get all up in arms and complain to the school who at that point have their hands tied.
The worst thing your kids are exposed to at Hooters is cholesterol.

Have you ever eaten at Hooters on Halloween?

We had a HS football game in another town last year and took my DD10 and a male friend of hers, 10. They wanted to eat at Hooters before the game, so we checked with his parents who said it was okay. Never thought about the costumes they would be wearing! Let's just say the guys in our group had fun, even the 10 yo. Nothing terribly inappropriate, didn't show anymore than the regular clothes.

We still like Hooters and continue to go with our kids. I would not have minded if my kids went with their school either.
