Ariz. teacher on leave for taking choir to Hooters

I'm just shocked that you told your 6yo what they were really talking about and not the fact that they are also doing a play on words in reference to the owl.

exactly......we've taken our girls there forever and the first thing my eldest daughter noticed was the owl and once she was a bit older, her reference to hooters is the owl and the place with Tigger tails.....we muct have never had curly fries anywhere else!

An owl "hoots" and therefor they are calling the owl a "hooter"---

But we all know what they are really talking about.

I didn't mean to imply that I told my daughter that... sorry... I've never told her anything because she has never been to a Hooters...I should have said, "I can only imagine telling my daughter..." blah blah blah....sorry I didn't reread before I submitted....

I personally would be p-o'd if someone took my child to a place to eat that reduces women to their breasts, or as sex objects. You can say that Hooters is all about the owl symbol all you want, but everyone knows it is about the breasts and sex appeal of the women servers.

If a teacher has this poor of judgement in this matter, what other poor decisions has she made?

Okay--I was wondering about that....:lmao:

I disagree that Hooters is family-oriented.Just because you have a "kids menu" makes you a genius in marketing, but not kid-friendly...
First of all..its called HOOTERS... then when my 6 year old asks me why its called that... "Um-- its another word for a woman's breasts" .
I think it is a parent's prerogative, but to me a family friendly burger joint is more like "Fuddruckers". Its about the food, not about the gimmick of scantily clad women.

That being said, I don't think the teacher should be suspended or reprimanded, they are in high school.

oh my...did someone new rule that? hehehehhehehehehe:lmao:

come on...we KNOW you wouldn't poison the mind of a young child!!!

...OR WOULD YOU????:scared1:

hey...

its the holidays...have some RUM....

with nog!!!!!

that's exactly why I don't think its a "family place" ... no way do I want my 6 or 4 y.o. daughters emulating the servers by getting their own little "Hooters" t-shirts that they apparently sell for children.

It doesn't matter.

They offer a children's menu. :confused3

If the restaurant was purposing to not permit minors....ummmm....hard to do when you have a menu for kids and sell children's shirts with the company logo. (I think when I was in there once, I even saw a onesie.)

Well, I'm sure many bars offer kid type meals too, but that doesn't make them appropriate for everyone. It's not up to Hooters to decide if they allow children into their establishment, it's up the PARENTS to decide if they feel the establishment is fit for their child to attend. Since Hooters makes no excuse for the fact that they are selling sex (and they freely admit that themselves and fully encourage women to take advantage of their assets to make money much the same way models and the like do) I think they are well versed by now on the fact that not everyone appreciates the services they're selling and that not every family in this country finds their restaurants to be the most suitable one for their children.

I don't have a problem with Hooters myself, but I'm not ignorant enough to say that everyone should agree with me and take their kids there just because I feel it's ok. Hell, I wouldn't have wasted any time in applying for a job there when I was younger if one was in our area at that time. I also wouldn't do a thing to try and dissuade MY daughter from working there (and she's gorgeous enough and built well enough that I really don't think hiring her would be a problem).

I'd imagine though that there are a heck of a lot of Christian families (though I'm sure there are other families as well that don't put a stamp of approval on Hooters for their minor children) out there who would rather their child never walk into that restaurant even as adults. Granted, it up to us to decide for ourselves, but simply tossing a stamp of approval on from the establishment; in the way of say a child's menu, really isn't going to win ALL families over and to even believe that everyone should agree with your position is a bit belligerent, IMO.

I don't think the teacher should get in trouble. Its a restaurant open to the public and the girls have everything covered. I have been to MANY business lunches there working with mostly men and haven't ever heard or seen anything that would be inappropriate around kids/teens. I would let my kids eat there no problem. They have hose on under the shorts and nothing is hanging out. The girls usually just pull up a bar stool, maybe to try and sell a calendar and talk to the regulars at the table and pull out a hula hoop if is a birthday celebration. The grilled cheese and curly fries are affordable and really good, my fave.

the shirts they sell for children are regular t shirts so unless you doctor it up yourself, they are not going to be emulating servers!

I don't place my stamp of approval.

I do think it is all an overreaction.

Bars here (in Florida) that are solely bars, won't even allow minors in let alone have a children's menu.

I just find the whole contoversy to be silly that the teacher was punished for this action.

Clearly they should have planned ahead. I noticed they were singing at some type of inaugural activity. I am unclear if this was in DC or if it was a local inaugural activity. If it was DC, finding any place to eat on the spur of the moment during the inauguration is a pain in the rump.

Reacting as though it is a strip club though--is ridiculous.

We are a Christian family, we do not eat there. Not my favorite restaurant or on my top 10 list of places I'd care to be seen at.

A slap on the wrist would have been more appropriate since it seems that an AZ school was not clear on the difficulties of finding an eating establishment that day wherever they were at. As well as putting a district policy in place to prevent such...spur of the moment choices in the future.

Bottom line--the punishment does not fit the crime.

thats good...I'd hate to see little girls running around in little tiny orange shorts, and low-cut tanks.....he he :thumbsup2

Well, in her defense, Hooters DOES have good chicken wings.

Said my peace.

I only got through page 1 of this thread, but I have to say that I agree with most-I think the district is overreacting.

I am a pretty conservative person & I ate at a Hooters once in Atlanta while I was at a conference. My friends chose it & I was expecting to be embarrassed and grossed out, but it was a very conservative restaurant. The girls were wearing their red tank tops but the waitresses were not "falling out of them"-they acted like normal waitresses, they had a childrens' menu, we saw families eating there, & seriously, the patrons at Panera were dressed more provocatively than Hooters.

I don't know if Hooters used to be more racy or maybe it depends on the city, but the one we went to was basically like any other sports bar type restaurant.

I really would have cared less if my child went there.

Well, I don't disagree with you about the teacher. I can understand the school's position if a few parents called in, but I don't think this rises to the level of her losing her job (which she was going to retire anyway). I'm sure she has a very good track record and I hope the school gives that the weight it deserves when deciding if she is allowed to go back before her retiring date approaches. It would be sad if she missed the going away party that I'm sure they'll have for her and just having the ability to say goodbye in her own way will give her the closure that I'm sure she needs to go onto the next phase of her life. After that many years of teaching, I have little doubt she'll be suffering some sense of loss just by retiring alone. This is just a bad way to end her career, and I do think the punishment would not fit the crime if she's not able to return for that closure.

Edit:
In PA, if you're a minor, you can go into any bar if you're with someone over the age of 21.
