Ariz. teacher on leave for taking choir to Hooters

I don't know, we take DS14 and DD12 there to eat. This is DS's restraunt of choise to go to for his birthday dinner.

And I know our local Hooters a great lunch special menu. 10 bonless wings, 10 reg wings, hamburger, 10 shrimp, chicken strips and I think one other thing for $6.99, which includes an order of fries. On the regular menu, 10 wings is $7.99 and an order of fires are $2.39/2.99.

Heck I'd be happy if that is where they took the kids to eat, as I know DS would get a lunch that he liked.

I haven't been for few years but it looks like they wear more clothes now then they did before
Truth in advertising requires me to mention that the picture I posted, while being #1 in my google search, does not show a truly representative image of a Hooters server. The wings do pretty much look like that, unless you order them 'naked'.

I'd have a fit if a school took my kids there. Why can't teachers use good judgment?? QUOTE]

ITA! I just don't get it. Is it the worst thing in the world? Of course not, but my goodness how hard would it've been to stop at ANY other completely rated G restaurant??? This is a school with many ppl., with many different views, and it doesn't take a genius to figure that some ppl. and probably even some of the students that were taken there, would be offended. Good grief what happened to common sense???

Obviously it was hard to find a restaurant to accomodat such a large crowd or else they wouldn't have gone there. Didn't the teacher already explain that :confused3

You guys are breaking the quotes pretty good; making it appear that people posted things that they did not.

Well based on that picture, that is from a Hooters in Alaska, you don't really expect them to wear their usual outfits there do you? ;)

Psst. Hooters is 'G' rated, as defined by the Motion Picture Association of America. Not that restaurants are actually rated in this manner, nor should they be, since every one of them (except those actually within strip clubs) would be 'G' rated.

I figure that she actually tends bar there. I've noticed that the Hooters bartenders often don't conform to the same dresscode as the servers.

Well, I hope it works out ok for the teacher. I doubt she thought it was inappropriate when she made the decision to take the kids there. The problem for the school however lies in the fact that this is really a parental issue that the school really shouldn't be getting involved in. I don't think those children were hurt at all and that's not my point, but whether or not a child should be eating there should be in the parent's hands, not the school's.

I find it funny that after reading the OP, I immediately turned to my 17 year old daughter (who will be 18 in 6 days) and asked if the teacher should be placed on leave. She said, YES! I think it's funny that an 18 year old can see how inappropriate it is, but the teacher did not.

Again though, I do hope it works out well for this teacher. One incident certainly doesn't define her entire career and I hope the school acknowledges that. It's also important to note that we are talking about high school kids and not elementary age kids.

I also would be upset if the school took my child to Hooters without letting me put an order in.

Would you let this woman serve your child wings???

...why, OF COURSE NOT!!! She's got big....................ears.

It's a restaurant. Heck, half the girls in school are probably walking around wearing less then the waitresses are.

I think they just had a knee jerk reaction to this whole thing. I hope things work out for the teacher. Not a good way to end her teaching career.

No offense to your 17 year old, but it seems like the majority of adults here don't think it's very inappropriate - it's a restaurant, where children do go. Hooters, TGIF's - they're the same to me. Heck, I think owls are cute!

I find it funny that someone would suggest that a 17 year old is the perfect barometer as to what is appropriate.

I don't disagree about hoping things work out for the teacher, but I don't think the Hooter's outfit would fit the bill for any public school dress code in the entire country. Not even for PE (unless you're talking about the pool code - but even at that, it's not CO-ED in our district).

Does your district have a policy that states that servers in all restaurants attended during field trips must conform to the school's dress code for students?

That's one strange policy.

Well, no offense taken on the part of my daughter. It is a restaurant where they are willing to serve children, there is no denying that. However, since they themselves have spent a lot of money in advertising to get the reputation that they currently have (a reputation that they make no excuses for - and I'm not suggesting they should), it's silly to suggest that every parent in the world would want their child eating there. Now on a personal level, I frankly don't care if my children choose to eat there and I do not believe for a minute these children will suffer any short term repercussions (let along long term), it should still be a parental decision. That is why the teacher was placed on leave.

While you are free to believe whatever you want, you do not have the right to trample on another parent's wishes (unless of course someone were to overstep the law). That's the bottom line here.

I never suggested she was the "perfect" anything and you took what I did say and twisted it to suit your own agenda.

I wonder what the hs cheerleaders or gymnists dress like at that hs? I've been to a few basketball games where the cheerleaders probably didnt have more on than a waitress at hooters. I dont think this teacher should be suspended.
