Ariz. teacher on leave for taking choir to Hooters

Does your district have a policy that states that servers in all restaurants attended during field trips must conform to the school's dress code for students?

That's one strange policy.

I really wouldn't know that without doing some research.

This school felt it was at least somewhat inappropriate in this case since they did put the teacher on leave. I guess you could go dig up the student handbook to see what this district's policy is if you wish, be it strange or otherwise.

I wonder what the hs cheerleaders or gymnists dress like at that hs? I've been to a few basketball games where the cheerleaders probably didnt have more on than a waitress at hooters. I dont think this teacher should be suspended.

No tank tops, period. Anything that is not 2 fingers in width is not allowed to be worn. As for the bottoms, when you place your hands at the side, the bottom (be it skirt or whatever), needs to be at least fingertip length.

This is our policy and quite a few other areas have the same one. I'd imagine it's probably pretty standard bill of fare, but I most definitely will not say it's the same across the board. Here is a typical Hooters' outfit:

I never suggested she was the "perfect" anything and you took what I did say and twisted it to suit your own agenda.
Based solely on your posts to this thread, it appears that you are the one with the agenda.

Oh, I have the agenda? Personally, I agree with everything you've said when it comes to my personal opinion of this situation. I however do not trump the wishes of parents out there who disagree, anymore than you do. It's not OUR (yours or mine) place to say that every parent out there needs to conform to our way of thinking.

It's a parental issue, period.

Best teacher ever!

Aww, it's just a restaurant, and the wings ARE good.

and the "tigger tail" fries as my daughter named the curly fries!!

-this was probably one parent who got all upset....I mean seriously, how can taking a kid to hooters for lunch/dinner be such an ordeal...now if the teacher was buying pitchers of beer and passing them around that would be one thing.

That's are dress code to but the Dance team and cheerleaders defiantly wear less clothes then the dress code permits at least at my school. I'm an 18 year old and I personally don't think that she should have a punishment for taking high school students to Hooters. The dance team has worn shorter shorts and tighter shirts then hooters girls sometimes.

No offense but based on a quick measurement using my own arms with hands placed at the side of my legs doesn't make for a long skirt at all. I think it would be a pretty revealing skirt IMO.

so is the beach.....

So is....everywhere...

You know much more than I do about Hooters, but I can't help but notice that their shirts indicate they are in Australia...could things be skimpier over there?

I wouldn't go there just b/c we're vegetarian...

But I love this part:

"But district officials believe there were other options for lunch in the area."

They *believe* it? They might try proving it.

I had a girlfriend whose boss refused to expense a meal she had at Hooters while travelling. She (the boss) was one of those who thinks it is like a strip club.

Still, I think food to go there is a ridiculous concept! ;)

Bingo!:thumbsup2

I've been to Hooters in a few different places. I thought the food was mediocre at best and the waitresses were nothing special to look at. I kept waiting for some buxom hottie to walk by.

So how can a place that has a children's menu and has a night when kids eat free be inappropriate??

I'm a teacher, have taken kids on field trips, and would usually schedule in advance where we're going to eat. I can see, though, if she didn't have plans, or if the plans fell through, that she got in a bit of a panic and thought "where's a big enough place that we can all eat?" One lapse in judgement (according to at least one parent), and it's an early end to her career.

I feel sorry for her.

not the worst thing in the world and I think the reaction is over the top as far as the actions taken against the teacher.

however, I do feel Hooters is an inappropriate place for a school group! (ETA: unless, perhaps, all the parents were informed and everyone was OK with it, I guess. This clearly wasn't done.) My DH and his last two employers feel it is inapproprite for business lunches, etc. My family never ate our local Hooters and I am glad they did not do well and all of them closed over a year ago.

Just IMHO - and it is up to each family to decide for themselves.

Oh my God. People really do need to calm the hell down.

Hooters is nothing but a fun, family-oriented burger, fries and wings kind of place. The girls wear tank tops and shorts. (Here is some trivia: Those shorts are called "dolphins".:confused3) The girls are checked over everyday before they can start their shift - there is a giant room with lockers and wall to wall mirrors. Their makeup has to be just so, hair perfect, shoes whiter than white, no snags in the panty hose (There is a vending maching where they can buy nylons and socks back there). They are trained to be super cheesy happy all the time. Like Disney employees with shorter shorts! Anyway, Hooters itself is a great organization. They offer college scholarships and employees are also eligible for tuition reimbursement.

How do I know this? My precious daughter (23 y.o. now) worked there for 3 years. She made really good money while she was in school. Now she is a Medical Assistant. So see? Hooters didn't turn her into a stripper.:thumbsup2

eta: They also cannot have visible tattoos or extreme piercings. (extreme = other than ears, and even those no more than 3 earrings per)

I just want to know why I didn't have any cool teachers like that when I was in high school!!!!

probably would have tried to stay longer!!!!!!

you know, come to think about it,

maybe that would lower the drop out rate?

My son, who has never had an interest in choir, suddenly wants to join one after reading this article. He was wondering if Hooters has a v.i.p. lounge. If anyone knows, please let me know.

As another poster said, it's not the school that had the issue with it most likely. There was probably a parent that heard about it from their kid and raised all hell with the school. To shut the parent up, they put the teacher on leave. All because mommy thinks her son is too young to see girls in short skirts and tight shirts.

I wonder if they are trying to get something on this soon to be retiring techer so they don't have to pay her full retirement benefits???

I am the fossil to end all fossils in terms of what passes for "appropriate" today, and even I don't see the problem with taking these kids to Hooters.
