Argo why wrongly bash the Brits yet again

The news talk shows have interviewed a number of them and yes.....they said flatly its mostly fiction, and are not happy.

Again, do you have an actual source? I'm curious as to how such intelligent people such as those could possibly confuse a work of fiction - loosely based on a true story - as a documentary. It is well understood that it was fictionalized. We also know that much of what was portrayed in Lincoln was fictionalized as well, so there is no lack of misrepresenting history in Hollywood no matter what the nationality, lol!

Well the story is...the Cameroon movie and the 1954 *A Night to Remember * by Lord, are the closest to total truth.

The 2 other movies and the TV movie are often way off the mark.

Ummmm...I suppose there were many accurrate aspects of the James Cameron Titanic movie, once you get past the entirely fictional main plot. For instance, the way that the two lovers "ride" the ship down to the water by climbing out onto the stern railing...someone actually did that (by his own account at least). That is one weirdly accurrate point I didn't expect in the movie. But for the most part, the movie was pure fantasy.

It sucks, because you could make such an awesome movie of the Titanic without needing some fool love story to spice up the plot. Or, if you simply must have a love story, why not make it about John Jacob Astor, American millionaire, and his new pregnant bride? Now there's a story.

Well they have a point. Most American cars aren't very well made. A reason I love my BMW. 13 years old and still runs like mostly new.

OP, I'm afraid your concerns are baseless, since the USA is loaded with Anglophiles and others who enjoy the British lifestyle. Your culture is adored in the USA, so if you are looking for anti-British sentiment, you'll probably have better luck searching elsewhere. I suppose, however, if you look hard enough for something, you'll fool yourself into thinking you've found it, even where it doesn't exist.

I am honestly struggling to think of any movies where a Brit is set up as the villain where it is not logical in the context. America's default Hollywood villains have historically been the Russians/Eastern Europeans and more recently those of Arabian/Persian extraction.

Using the Titanic movie as an example, while I don't recall anybody as a classic villain, the vast majority of the passengers were either British or American so while the nasty fiance was British, so were the hero and heroine.

Sunday morning one of those shows I heard on the car radio.I beleive CBS morning tv.....Thats all I remember., I was not expecting a test.

As to the fiction, well not all that many people know its fiction, especailly when Cloony is talking it up as the true story.

I disgree.....some of those people were shown in a very poor like and considering they often had there own lives in danger I can fully understand them being upset.........I would be pretty upset if a hollywood clown makes a movie showing me in a bad light, just to sell more tickets and make a bigger name for himself.

If it were fiction, then they should not have used the names of actual people. I would think if a movie were made about your life, using your name and youir circumstances, you wouldn't be happy if the plot were totally made up. This is what happened with "Argo". Globe and Mail Article

I totally disagree.......the movie is mostly correct other then the love story. One thing that was not correct is when the 1st officer is shown shooting himself....never happened.

As to your idea to use JJ Astor , that is a great idea!

That some people cannot grasp the notion that much of the movie or book is made up is a reflection of the viewer's or reader's intellectual capacity, not a reason to change an entire genre of literature and film.

Funny, I always thought it was well known that Britain is the U.S.' greatest political ally.

And we have such a love of the British royal family.

Its the French we notoriously hate, as they are thought to be arrogant & rude. Remember how there was a boycott of french fries for a while?

Agree 100%! I've never, ever sensed an anti-British sentiment in the U.S.
Anti-French OTOH...
