Argo why wrongly bash the Brits yet again

Do we get to wear pretty dresses? I only want an awards show if we can wear pretty dresses. :)

Wait a minute. . . In Titanic the nasty piece of work Rose was supposed to marry was (gaso) an American. As were Rose and Jack. Script didn't really pass judgment on the ship's owners, builders or crew. There were other movies about the Titanic that were more focused on laying blame.

Yes, Affleck did take dramatic license with Argo. I saw a tv documentary over the weekend about the event.

Did you catch the error in Lincoln? Spielberg had Connecticut voting against the 13th amendment, when in fact they actually voted for it.

Clearly Spielberg hates Connecticut....

Well it seemed "all over" to me, since pretty much every time I turned on CBC, there seemed to be a story about the Oscars. And every time they talked Oscars -- which they did a fair amount as there were Canadians favored in key races -- someone would bring up Argo and how this person or that person was upset about how downplayed the Canadian role was and how they'd be pretty upset if Ben Affleck didn't thank Canada. Several articles in the papers too. Maybe I was just seeing it more because I had limited television channels available to me in my hotel!

:earsboy:

And by "this person or that person" do you mean Ken Taylor the Canadian Ambassador who actually rescued the American hostages, lol? He was doing the interview circuit just before the Oscars so that is why you saw him here and there. And the fact that you reduce him to "this person or that person" just goes to prove the point, lol.

Former President Carter took the time to comment on the film as well.

If it is Ken Taylor, has he even seen the movie? it does portray him and his wife in a great light. In the film, they housed the Americans in their own home, at great risk to their own lives.

And in the interview above, Jimmy carter even talks about how the Canadian government had to give permission for fake Canadian passports to be issued. :thumbsup2

As for the British embassy, WHY did the Americans only stay ONE night there? WHY did they leave, why did they HAVE to leave, if they had to? :scratchin

And rightly so. Today he would have been put on trial as a serial killer or at least conspiracy to murder.

It a current news story here made national news? We have on trial a cop who was going to murder and than eat his wife. He's nicknamed the "cannibal cop." :scared: Google it. :scared1:

It's not that it actively portrays them in a poor light, but it very much downplays his role (and the role of other Canadians). The original ending (which was shown at the Toronto Film Festival) said that the CIA allowed Canada to take credit for the mission due to politics. The updated postscript was added after Affleck met with Taylor.

Now the film about bin laden uses the last messages of people who died in the 9/11 attack

Mary spoke with CBS about the painful memories that came from hearing Brad's final phone call again and her authorized use of the audio:

When I arrived home I found Brad's message on our phone, and, of course, these were his last words in my view, because we never heard from him again. My first thought was, isn't anything sacred anymore? I used it in situations where I wanted to convey Brad's story. None of those situations were used for promotional or professional or commercial endeavors.

Sooooo? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

That is an American movie about Americans. And those are American families.

Oooooooooookay. This post just pointed the thread on a fast track to crazy town. I'm sorry but the Daily Mail is equivalent to the National Enquirer so I equate its usefulness with toilet paper. I am not familiar with the second site referenced so I will withhold my opinion on whether or not it is reputable.

I have to ask also. What does this have to do with the original topic or any offshoots of the original topic?

This is currently being reported in the local NYC news here. What people elsewhere may not understand is, that the families aren't "attacking" the film, as the Daily Mail used the word. But, the families and survivors of the victims of 9/11 are in the news here almost every other day. And yes, there are some families who are always plenty outraged about something having to do with 9/11 or how it's been handled.

Anger is one of the 5 Stages of Grief. These families don't even have any body remains in which to have buried their loved ones, no private graves to go to mourn at or get to be angry at.
gah.gif
no ONE place they can let it all out. So they get angry about EVERYTHING they can. (It's quite understandable, to those who understand the process.) They have been angry since Day 1 about how and what kind of memorial there will/should be at the WTC site, how long it's taking, how the names will be listed, they are angry at the mayor, the architect, the Memorial committee, and on and on.

The producers of the film have donated a portion of the profits of the movie to The National September 11 Memorial & Museum, which angered many families as they wanted the donations made their own chosen 9/11 charities. Can people start to see the anger pattern here? :scratchin

This certainly isn't a Hollywood thing, other than that they should have asked for permission for use, isn't a British thing, :confused3 or even an American thing. It is individual families having nowhere to grieve. And this has nothing to do with the original topic.

I remember getting into a debate long ago with the OP about the Death Penalty laws here in the U.S. And she went on & on, bashing the U.S., saying how the British laws were so much better.

Sounds like this thread isn't really about the Americans bashing the Brits. But one British poster bashing the U.S.
