Did not work in both North Attleboro MA store and Smithfield RI store

Managers on duty did not even want to address it - gift cards are not included

Worth a try .... just will buy my disney cards everytime I receive my pharmacy rewards...10% is still better then nothing... Not leaving until August anyway

Kebby, thr33boys Are you sure your manager called Guest Services my manager called and could not get approvel what is the store number and location. Anyone else who got approvel please post your store number and location also name of manager if you know it:sad::worried::(:furious:

Yes she called guest services a couple of times actually. It was the Watertown store, store number 2253

Don't people realize that if the managers are unknowingly going ahead and overriding something they shouldn't, they can be held accountable for that? The store is going to be short by hundreds or thousands of dollars to "make a guest happy". This isn't like applying a couple dollar discount. We're talking hundreds and hundreds of dollars---on each transaction! That is obviously going to throw up a red flag somewhere along the line and someone's going to get in trouble! But I guess no one cares as long as they get theirs---even if it's not really theirs to get!

The fact that Target calls these GIFT CARDS "entertainment" card does not change the fact that they are in fact GIFT CARDS. We all know that. And with GIFT CARDS being excluded no one should have been surprised that they couldn't use the 20% coupon.

And if they had put that in the ad I wouldn't have driven out of my way from my in-laws to stop at Target. They had no exclusion like that in the ad. It was only after I had spent the $75, and fought with the checker to get the 20% off coupon because she was out, that I saw the exclusions. I would not have spent my money there had they explained everything clearly from the beginning.

And I did buy a Target gift card to get the 20% discount, hoping it would work. It doesn't. End of story. I know I'll use the Target gift card eventually, so nothing lost. I'm not going to try to return it. I'm not going to ask a manager to override. I'm not going to rant and rave about how awful Target is.

I took a chance, it didn't work, nothing lost. Life goes on....

The gift card exclusion was listed in the ad. Thought that was pretty clear.

I should correct. It did say it online--not sure about the ad.

I was denied. I was extremely polite and non-confrontational. It was completely embarrassing and time consuming. I spoke with two managers. They both spoke with corporate and said that they could not give the discount. They said that even though they are in the system as entertainment cards, they are still gift cards. They also said that corporate has received these calls all day and any store that had granted the discount did not have their permission.

This is exactly what happened to me there for a hour and half 2 managers and several phone calls.

I don't think this is true, the manager had a reference number from her phone call approving this that she wrote right on the coupon.

Actually, it wasn't listed in the print ad or online. This is the only gripe I agree with here. The coupon exclusions should have been presented upfront in their advertising.

I imagine tomorrow when Corporate wakes up, there will be some sort of official policy made. However, it doesn't bode well for them that some people got the discount today.

OK people, please stop pushing this and calling! I'm not even just thinking of Disney Entertainment cards but all of the entertainment cards. How much do you want to bet that when the smoke clears from the overrides that "entertainment cards" will be changed to "gift cards" in the system? Then none of us will get the small discounts Target and Disney have allowed us to enjoy. FWIW though, I don't think people getting the discount are doing anything wrong at all- they are "ent." Cards in the system, Target is aware of that, and they could have stated "gift cards or ent. Cards" in the fine print.

Come on people, use some common sense. This is clearly an entitlement issue, quit looking for loopholes, its nice enough that target gave the 5% on them before, which in sure will be coming to and end now.
If you really need to spend an hour and a half with a manager to get something approved then maybe it SHOULD NOT BE APPROVED.

Actually they could have stated anything on the fine print for using the 20% off, but they left out even gift cards in the ads. I was disappointed I couldn't use it for wine for my book club meeting this Tuesday. Sloppy work by corporate on not saying it was restricted in the ad.

Nobody really got the discount, they essentially talked a store manager, in various ways, to override the system to give them a manual discount corporate never intended them to have. Earlier when a few reported managers getting the okay from "guest services", I held out hope that they would make a policy change, but now with more and more reports of people being told no even after managers making these calls to their corporate offices, I'm not going to go in and try to con my way into a discount that could get these managers in serious trouble. I don't mind exploiting a deal and got my own 20% off coupon just in case this worked, but I knew it was a long shot. The last two years when they had the $10 Target Gift Card with a $50 purchase, and you could do this with various Gift/Entertainment cards, incuding the $50 Disney Gift Card, I made the most of it. I feel as long as their system allows it, that it's fair game. Once you need to start conning a clerk or manager to skirt the rules and potentially get them in trouble, it's crossing the line.

The disboards needs a "Like" button.

I think it's game over now.

I went into my store and just spoke to the manager. I showed her my receipt from earlier with no discount on the ent. cards I bought. She agreed that the 5% comes off, so those should have been discounted. She refunded the difference because she knows other people have been having it done today. When I asked if I would be able to do another transaction she said she could override it for ONE card only. I asked if she knew if there was a corporate policy on whether they were suppose to be excluded she called-

Corporate now has a recorded message telling managers NOT to discount the "entertainment cards" because they are gift cards and are excluded, which is why they do not ring up with the discount. She never even got to a person, when they call they go through one of those "push one for..." systems and calling about the 20% promotion leads them to a message not to give a discount on entertainment cards. So clearly they have noticed and are addressing the issue. If you got them, you got lucky and they now have a corporate statement that gift cards are gift cards. Please keep your fingers crossed that the poor employee who was nice to you doesn't lose their job. This does not effect discounts that exclude "target gift cards" as those are specific. (ie redcard)
