Just out of curiosity, I want to find out the percentages of the Dis that download music illegally :teeth:

Also, if you want to add a little discussion on this thread, what is your opinion on people who do?

I don't download MP3s illegally. I also don't steal from stores. There is no difference. Theft is theft.

Chad, you actually think someone will admit to downloading illegally???? :rotfl2:

I do....

I'm in Canada so it's legal here...The supreme court says so...Nana na na.... :rotfl:

Actually, many folks here have admitted to this in the past. Many see nothing wrong with it, though I cant understand how they arrive at that conclusion.

Ever recorded a song off the radio?

The laws involved are different. You have the legal right to record off radio (the radio station pays a fee which supports that right). This is not true with ilagally downing MP3s. No one is paying for the right to distibute the tune like a radio station would and its ilegal. Plus a tape is an analog copy, which is tough to redistribute or copy again. Sorry, but its not the same thing.

When Napster came out I downloaded music from them. Of course, I usually wound up buying the CDs anyway. As time went on though, I felt guilty so now I buy my music through iTunes.

I have a friend that pays for a napster membership and makes copies for me.

Well, they aren't losing any business from me downloading. I never liked buying CDs for two or three good songs, so I wouldn't have bought them anyways :earboy2:

This is my only argument for downloading :rotfl:

In this day and age when you can pay $8 a month to Music Match and listen to any song in their collection at any time legally, or pay 99 cents and legally download almost any song from a number of legitimate sources, there is no excuse to illegally download MP3s anymore (not that there ever was a valid excuse in the first place ).

I'll admit that I used to download music from the net that was illegal. At the time, I knew it was wrong; didn't realize it was illegal, but knew it was wrong. Now this little voice in my head tells me bad Jenn bad.

Well then, I guess I just do it for the ease of use factor and the whole "being able to do whatever I want with the downloaded music" and such :earboy2:

I agree. It does not cost that much to get music legitimatly now. I feel the same about downloading movies and TV shows illegally online too.

Just a quick note to explain my attitude in this. As a programmer who has had his software pirated (the EXACT same thing as illegal MP3 pirating), I have personally lost money to this sort of activity. That is part of the reason why I may be coming off a bit strong. I dont find the phenomenon funny and I definitely view it as a crime which hurts not only record companies (I know, you probably think they deserve it) but the artists who record for them.

If you wanted more homest answers the poll shouldn't have been a public one.
