Evening!!

Will be staying at Port Orleans French Quarter in March - was wondering if I will be able to check my luggage and send to airport the last day as they do at the deluxe properties. Haven't stayed at PO in awhile and am not sure what the policy is.

Thanks!!

Have a Magical Disney Day!!

The deluxes don't do that anymore since 9/11. Unless your are using DME and using a particapating airline. Then you can. :pug:

Beg to differ but was at Disney twice last year - neither time did I use Magical Express. Stayed at Contemporary and OKW and was able to send luggage to the airport both times and then drove the rental car back. Used American and United.

Thanks

We can confirm that the deluxes do this as well - noticed it last week at the Beach and Yacht club for a select number of airlines.

All Disney resorts offer curbside check-in, including baggage check-in. Used it in October.

American and United - along with United's Ted, Delta, Song, Continental and JetBlue - are participating airlines. If you are flying these airlines, you can check your luggage through at your Resort and not worry about it again until you get to your home airport. If you're not flying on one of these airlines, you're responsible for transporting your own luggage from the Resort to the airport.

Continuing with this idea......if you use Magical Express how long does it take to get your luggage at the hotel upon arrival. Do your bags travel with you on the same bus?

Thanks and Have a Magical Disney Day!!

No, they go on a different truck. I have gotten my luggage about 20-30 minutes after getting into my room.

OK, let's everyone take a deep breath.

Beginning May 5, 2005, Disney started offering something called Resort Airline Check-In at ALL Disney owned and operated resorts (so this doesn't include Swan, Dolphin, SOG, or the hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd.). This service is available ONLY to guests who are departing on flights by the small handful of participating airlines that Ronda named above.

This is done at the deluxes, moderates, values, everywhere. But only for those flying an airline on that list.

We arrived at 8:30 p.m. and did not get the luggage until 3 a.m. At that point, they left a "silent" message on my phone. I wasn't able to sleep that night, so I saw the message light. Because they do not have bell boys on staff overnight, I had to go get all of it myself. It took me 45 minutes to lug all of my luggage from the front desk to the room.

I had forgotten my earplugs in the checked luggage so I couldn't sleep one minute the first night. A rough way to start a 10 day trip. :faint:

I still prefer it this way. Next time, I will remember to put earplugs in my carry on luggage.

Correct, we used this service in December and do not use DME. This is a separate service from the DME service which is run by TSA not disney. We used it in December, and checked our NINE bags and then spent the day at the parks, got in our rental minivan and zipped to the airport. Keep in mind, that it is only on select flyers....we were using United/TED, so was able to do this. In the past we could not because our other 4 trips to WDW in 2005 were on FLYI.

So once again it has nothing to do with staying at a deluxe at all. It is a TSA thing. So what I said would still be true if your not on a particapting airline you could not check your luggage and violate TSA rules. I did not know that it was not related to DME though. :pug:

Remote Airline Check-in is not run by the TSA. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is a government agency with the mission to protect the transportation systems of the United States. The TSA is not in the remote check-in business.

Remote Airline Check-in is run by a private company, BAGS, Inc. (The only role of the TSA regarding Remote Airline Check-in is to review and approve the procedures of BAGS, Inc.)

Remote Airline Check-in employees are not government employees or Disney employees. They work for BAGS, Inc. as remote skycaps for participating airlines.

During our checkin last month WE asked the employee if they worked for Disney and she said NO, they work for TSA. I would not doubt that these folks are contract employees for TSA, since the USG loves hiring contract employees. I see no reason why the folks checking us in would lie to us. Of course, we'll be back again in four weeks and will be using them again.

I think there was a misunderstanding.

It is true that the Remote Airline Check-in employees do not work for Disney. However, they are also neither government employees nor government contractors. Quite simply, providing remote skycap services is not a TSA function. The Remote Airline Check-in employees work for BAGS Inc. (However, BAGS Inc uses TSA approved procedures to comply with security requirements.)

It would make sense for them to say they work for a TSA-approved baggage service (in which case people would be likely to tip them) but not that they work for the TSA, a government agency (in which case people would not tip them).

For more information about BAGS Inc, see http://www.airportbags.com/
